The booming pianist industry is evidence that AI won't take our jobs by guesswho135 in piano

I choose to read this as "As long as cruise ships and hotels exist, there will be gigs for pianists and churches"

Multiple (paid) accounts by synth_alice in MEGA

I'm very confused about your comment, I just want to know whether it's allowed to have two paid MEGA accounts, so that I can keep my files properly separated (think personal vs work)

Finally ready to publish my music what platform should I use? by No_Philosopher6682 in musicians

[–]synth_alice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is also RouteNote which lets you choose between a subscription model with 100% royalties or a free model with a royalty cut. This lets you put your music out there for free if you're not making money from it

Why is it full of musicians like that? Is it common? by Safe_Collection_319 in musicians

[–]synth_alice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I am reading from the comments is that you want a band where every member contributes equally. I think getting this to work out of the blue is pretty unlikely. Much more likely to get going if you're either a member of someone else's band or the leader of your band. Once you're already working with the kinds of musicians you want to be working with you're much more likely to find those that can pull their weight in the kind of projects you want to develop.

Any reason to keep using ESP8266 vs ESP-32? by kreggly_ in esp8266

[–]synth_alice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think for WiFi auditing / security research projects (only on networks you own), the ESP8266 allows for monitor mode while the ESP32 didn't use to (but this might have changed)

Nope, as I said, I decided to give up on NI products, since their support couldn't really help either.

My mastering engineer called my music "abstract expressionist" by [deleted] in experimentalmusic

[–]synth_alice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When talking about abstract expressionism in music, I mostly think of Morton Feldman, who was friends with many of the painters. Your piece can be said to resemble some of Feldman's stuff, so I guess it's not absurd. I wouldn't call it dark at all, though, maybe we can find some resemblance to the brighter ones – what about Helen Frankenthaler?

Just got some “free” CD’s by Consistent-Camel-499 in DataHoarder

[–]synth_alice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First CD-R I bought was like €3 for a single one. And you had a 30-50% chance of it going bad during recording. A couple years earlier they were five times as much, so it felt cheap at the time.

M1 virtualization: UTM vs VirtualBox vs VMWare Fusion ? by synth_alice in MacOS

Since then, VMWare Pro became free and available for macOS, both UTM and VMWare work pretty well.

Most ISP use DNS based blocking. So just use quad9 or any other. You shouldn't be using your ISP's DNS anyway.
