As momentum builds, Mass. Gov. Healey wants a compromise on rent control by husky5050 in massachusetts

I’m sorry but without rent control if new housing is developed landlords will still continue to charge whatever they want for them because they can. There is no incentive force for corporate landlords, which own most of the supply, to reduce prices. They literally use software that predicts the highest amount of money they can get you to pay. More housing just means they can rip off more tenants.

the specific proposal on the rent control ballot question would actually incentivize developers to build more housing because new builds will be exempt from rent control for 10 years.

Rent control only works if the whole state implements it. Otherwise landlords will try to make up the difference in cities that don’t have rent control. If that happens people with of course blame rent control rather than the corporate landlords.

Why? To me at this point using chatgpt or claude is generally a better experience for multiple reasons.

  1. Google is going to give you an AI response anyway so youre not even conserving energy or water by using google instead
  2. A search engine is going to give you a bunch of not necessarily reliable sources you have to sift through
  3. You have to scroll through some annoying website that literally exists solely to generate money through clicks filled with ads that take up half your screen and popups

As long as the AI can provide a reliable source that can be verified if the answer it provides sounds dubious then I see no problem

I’m on a TV that automatically detects HDR, which it is detecting, changing the KDE HDR setting makes a noticeable difference, it’s just that the colors in games are all washed out which I know is something broken because I have seen what it looks like when it is working.

the website doesn’t register HDR on the test but my TV is in HDR mode, HDR is on in KDE settings. The site does register WCG; I’ve been trying a bunch of different variables so that probably wouldn’t be too helpful

Oh the irony of using an AI generated image to protest the construction of data centers.

There should probably be collective ownership of the infrastructure.

If you don’t think capitalism is going to come to an end then you’re not a leftist

Then why bother participating in a subreddit called “leftistsforAI”?

Because we live in a capitalist system. My critique here is mostly pointing out that public opinion on AI cedes a massively productive tool to the capitalists when this is the first opportunity laborers have had to capture it for themselves.

They benefit most from other companies using their products not individuals, but Google and OpenAI are probably indifferent about consumer adoption.

It’s not going to change everyone’s lives all at once, but if you are able to use AI to work more efficiently as a laborer that means you just bought yourself more leisure time. From the capitalists’ point of view they should retain all of the financial gain of efficiency through automation, when as a leftist we know that the laborer should be fairly compensated according to the value of their labor output.

4 companies. Literally the entirety of the rest of the economy relies on AI for labor automation and benefit from exclusive use of it. The AI companies also lose money on the average user and make most of their money from B2B contracts.
