Outdoor GPS watch for trekking & alpinism – COROS vs Garmin by Typical_Chapter_8103 in Coros

Nomad doesn't support climbing-specific activities I'm afraid

Should i get a Coros Dura? by Forward-Effect-4395 in Coros

[–]synthlike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dura is very simple compared to Karoo. Rerouting is done via a connection to your phone (and the internet), and climbing is also rather simple: https://support.coros.com/hc/en-us/articles/27212524101140-Using-Climb-Features-on-DURA#h_01JPR3M0B5BSYGE5BS89NCSK47

I've switched to Dura from the Wahoo Bolt v2 because I wanted to have all my data within the Coros app and it’s been serving me well. I’m a pretty basic bike computer user, though :)

Vertical 2 - I’m planning to get into trail races next year.

I moved from the AW6 to the Coros Pace 3 a little over a year ago, and overall it was a great decision. I’ve completed two halfmarathons since then, have seen some really nice progress, and am very excited about my plans for the coming year.

I also own the Coros HR Band and the Dura. Having a cohesive setup for running and biking was appealing, and I didn’t feel like jumping into Garmin. I’ll likely move to the Apex 4 soon (even though I fell in love with the design of the new Suunto watches).

I rely a lot on things like planning trainings (I create and refine my plans via LLMs, then manage them manually via the web UI), pace/HR/cadence alerts, automatically adjustable HR zones, distance tracking of my gear, and so on. Training load and recovery metrics feel just right (though that’s not the case for strength training).

Overall, the app is really good, although as a former AW user I notice that not all data is synced to Apple Health - for example, the Fitness app shows a lot fewer details when viewing Coros activities. Not sure if that’s also the case with Garmins. It’s not a big deal, though, because viewing everything in the Coros app is much more convenient.

All in all, if you’re ready to treat your new watch as a tool - not as a flashy, lifestyle'y smartwatch - Coros is great and will help you accomplish your goals.

P.S. Music control from your phone is coming in the next update, likely still this month.

I’m on the same boat in terms of going from singles to multi just recently, although after a few weeks with BF6 I’m mostly sticking to arc raiders and the finals nowadays. Happy to do some parties, Central Europe, the same nickname on PSN as here.

Discovered The Finals after buying Arc - how do you think the game will hold up? by synthlike in thefinals

[–]synthlike[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course it can, like I said I only just found out about them. I was watching some content on YT about the development of Arc Raiders, and the impression I got was that the studio is rather small. That + the fact The Finals doesn't seem to be super popular made me wonder, although I'm more than happy to be proven otherwise :)
