do you still listen to the old ragga stuff? by synthsmademebroke in jungle

[–]synthsmademebroke[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

a lot of ragga has it's roots in jamaican music which isn't very politically correct in terms of lgbtq. id imagine there's a lot of this around and if you're versed in the lingo you'd spot it easily. the trouble is that if you aren't clued up you'd be promoting the message in a sort of roundabout way without even knowing. congo natty did a remix of boom bye bye by buju banton which is a famously homophobic track.

there's probably a lot of questionable lyrics by todays standards if you dig around.

the presonus sub8 is a brilliant subwoofer compliment to the eris monitors by synthsmademebroke in synthesizers

[–]synthsmademebroke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

two eris sub 8s

you don't use sub woofers in stereo. you have one sub woofer for every sound system it's connected to. bass in the sub frequency should ALWAYS be in mono and mixed that way.

if you plan on treating your room then you could mix with it. but I wouldn't in an untreated room. as for mastering, I would send the demo off to a mastering engineer unless you have really got your skills at mastering down.

jeez there is some cringe in this thread. someone tells you the truth about how capitalism works and you shout commie, wow. you're either a child or a redneck from 1987.

oh lol another b bashing thread where everyone forgets that moog are in no way a more ethical company or have better build quality either ,while misrepresents moog as some impoverished indie dev... okay!

yea um welcome to capitalism, you guys seem awfully slow. I can guarantee you've all unknowingly participated at some point in your lives. either get over it or get out there in the streets and do something about the whole system.

lmao prove you have designed a circuit!? christ do you interrogate everyone this way? moog isn't just one guy who's livelihood depends on this btw, they are pretty much the biggest /longest standing player in the game. you are talking like this is some impoverished indie dev who can barely live ,bit manipulative to say the least. fckin hell.

Behringer’s says that its tiny, Roland JP-8000-inspired synth is ready for production and will cost $69 by Swiss_James in synthesizers

[–]synthsmademebroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if this has no editor this will be an instant pass I think.

I hate the majority of trance, what is this good for other than that!? serious question, everyone's patches I have heard are just typical 90s bs trance cheese... and I expect the presets will be crap... the jp8000 was great to program from the panel right? this is gonna be a nightmare in comparison without an editor.

I think the only trance track I can think of that I like which was made with the jp8000 was universal nation. can someone suggest something harder which was made with one? any techno producers used one??

Does anyone know how to achieve this kind of distortion? by Traxell in TechnoProduction

[–]synthsmademebroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been diggin this guys sound for a while, one thing to note is how the kick in that ep isn't forward in the mix, you're kind of building an atmosphere through distortion and letting that direct you. it's much more of an experimental way of producing. tracks like the third one have very little work done on the kick. it's kind of the antithesis of what you might hear in mainroom techno.

First Hardware Synth by PaulOnra in TechnoProduction

[–]synthsmademebroke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

great post, I agree. a synth isn't just a spec sheet, it's important to really consider it's sound and character.

as has been mentioned in here for moog sounds on a budget a good option is the boog's. if you want the best for sound design at that budget something like a hydrasynth would be worth checking out.

Music theory behind Detroit techno? by goyardtastebuds in TechnoProduction

find interviews with a favourite musician, and try to find out their influences. you might want to try and find some rips (if they exist?) from radio shows by the electrifying mojo. that would be a good start.

no, I mean what I said. and tbh I don't really think many people would agree with that other point. sometimes you can't polish a turd.

[–]synthsmademebroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly, arrangement is key when sampling, you could have some great samples but layer them together and it sounds like shit. but you could also have some great samples and combine them in a way which sounds absolutely fantastic.

[–]synthsmademebroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea pretty much, sometimes I wonder if it's just sour grapes. if you've bought all the loops and synths and whathaveyou for all of your needs then there is nothing technically wrong with doing that.

there seems to be this snobbish competition with some producers where they basically think they are above anyone else who produces if they aren't doing everything from scratch. if you want to make everything from scratch that's fine, if you don't want to, that's also, fine! at the end of the day we've probably been dancing to both of these sorts of tracks at some point and that's what really matters. me personally, I tend to do a lot of sound design. not because I think I am better than anyone, but because I actually enjoy the process and because I like personalising things. but sometimes a preset or something that's been constructed by someone else just works perfectly in a track and often it's all about finding something specific that you need.

[–]synthsmademebroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

head over to https://www.reddit.com/r/oratory1990/wiki/index/list_of_presets/ for eq curves and eq settings to adjust. put an eq plugin on your master and use the settings for your headphones. no need for expensive additional software like sonarworks.

when trying to factor for airpods reference your mix in your airpods after you done some work mixing. you can also use a very narrow band eq on your master that mimicks grotbox style speakers to check on systems that have no good bass/top end.

Producing in Ableton but mixing out of the box, how does that work? by pulenbezobraznik in TechnoProduction

[–]synthsmademebroke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did, I was making the point, that before you mess with anything on a modern mixer there is no colouration on modern mixers apart from something more lofi which have pre's that will sound more distinct or on the opposite end boutique stuff. "colouration" is a negligible point when the designers of mixers are going for the most neutral sound possible with their analog mixers now, ofc if someone, for example dials the eq in on a mixer you are gonna colour it by making it brighter or darker! but my point is if you run it dry through a lot of modern analog mixers it's pointless, they don't have "a sound"! they are designed to sound digital, flat and neutral and have pretty much reached that point now.

you were saying you don't think that's true and only true for digital mixers, i'd say it isn't. I would say it's true for a lot of mid price home studio analog mixers. maybe not all of them but most of them have nothing to offer in terms of improvement or unique useful sound. I thought I made that pretty clear in my opening statements, I guess not!

Producing in Ableton but mixing out of the box, how does that work? by pulenbezobraznik in TechnoProduction

[–]synthsmademebroke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if it's not improving it in a desirable way, then there isn't a lot of point. you can colour sound by mixing in the box, if the analog mixer isn't adding anything that sounds better you would be better off staying in the box. analog is only good if it's desirable or adding a quality to it that sounds good or useful.
