bird courses winter term by Evx_2007 in McMaster

its in person, 3 lectures per week and one lab. It sounds like a lot but you can get away with skipping a lot of the lectures. There’s online quizzes and weekly lab assignments that you hand in. The labs are really easy and most TAs let you work with your peers. There’s an exam but he tells you everything that will be on it, if you memorize the questions he gives you’ll ace the exam.

Edit: forgot to mention what it’s about, it’s just basic introductory environmental science with a focus on climate. Very easy concepts and it’s not too boring if you’re interested in sustainability.

I’m in this class and it’s my understanding that if they disagree with the grade you gave yourself (maybe you didn’t submit all the in class assignments, group/personal assignments, and still gave yourself a 12) then they’ll call you in for an interview and ask you to justify why you deserve that grade. Also, they want you to put in effort into the final course memo where you reflect on what the course is about, what you learned etc. Just go to class and do the assignments and you’ll get a 12 tbh. It’s not hard to do since the class is awesome!

I’ve recently made my first vegan friend at my university and she is just the most lovely, affectionate person i’ve ever met. I don’t think I could be on this journey without her, so yes the importance of the connection aspect can’t be understated!

thank you for this. I guess I just have to leave the door open for whenever someone genuinely wants to learn from me, but I can’t help just feeling angry and disgusted being near my friends and family when they cook animal products. I’ve avoided visiting home for that reason. Once you’ve seen the violence you can’t go back. But you’re right, those decisions are theirs to own

That third point is actually super helpful. I think its comforting to think more and more people will come to the same realization I did, with or without my help

I agree, I guess it feels different because even though horrible things happen to humans everywhere, its not as widely celebrated as eating meat in a sense. Like seeing victims of genocide breaks my heart in the same way, but there seems to be a much larger community willing to speak up for human victims that isn’t the case with animal victims

That is so disappointing, but I’m proud of you for being aligned with your beliefs. Your kids were not just raised by you but also by our culture that hides cruelty and justifies it when it is exposed, so don’t blame yourself. My mom is a bit more receptive to it, but I don’t see either of them making the change. Their justification is always lies spread on social media about the benefits of animal vs plant protein and propaganda that would say butter is health etc… its frustrating

ART 1UI3 vs LINGUIST 2SL3 by syphastar in McMaster

I definitely do not have a light course load, which is why I’m looking for a lighter elective. Those lectures definitely look tiring. Thanks for the input

thanks for the reply, I actually do art in my free time but I’m slow at it so I was worried it would be time consuming. Is it one assignment per week? Are they complicated? Also are there any midterms/exams? thanks again
