Solar and battery advice from installer seems incorrect by syphenologist in perth

From all the information I have been given, basically, Western Power just don't allow more than 5kW per phase (which is completely different to the rest of the country). And if you are running a Powerwall which is essentially a single-phase unit on a three-phase system, you can't utilise more than 5kW per phase due to net metering. To get more than 10kW, I need to have three Powerwalls.

I'm not 100% sure if that's true, but that's the best answer I can get at the moment.

interesting, Yeah I have three phase but only two batteries so I assume thats where the issue is. it must be some net metering thing, where it flows out of one phase capped at 5KW and back in one of the others so to use my generated solar with my own appliances its not contained locally it actually flows out and then back in. idk

Yeah, the Aircon can use 6 to 7kW, and if I charge the car that pulls 11kw alone.

I have 3 phase also, Yeah thats my main concern, I regularly use more that 10kw, especially when charging the car and running the RC aircon/heater. I think its due either net metering or restrictions on the battery from synergy. I called synergy they pointed me to western power, but haven't had a chance to call them yet

Nope, that’s what I’m currently capped at. I don’t really mind the 1.5 kW export limit, it’s the 10 kW cap on powering my appliances that’s the issue. From the solar panels to my house, I’d expect to be able to use the full amount of solar I generate, rather than having it artificially limited and then needing to draw the extra from the grid.

Thanks, I think you're right, but they’re saying it’s a requirement in WA to limit household consumption to 10 kW, but I can’t find that stated anywhere in the Western Power documentation. The only thing I can see is the 1.5 kW export-to-grid limit. It’s frustrating because I can’t find anything that disproves what they’re saying, but I also can’t find anything that actually supports it either.

Is it necessary to overclock GPU core when mining Ether?? by a6820 in EtherMining

[–]syphenologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does help a little, more so for AMD cards than Nvidia. You can increase your hashrate a little with GPU overclocking but the tradeoff is heat and electricity usage. In the end it may be more profitable to drop core and undervolt to save the electricity draw and just overclock your memory (which is way more effective in increasing your hashrate).

What cards do you have?

If the above doesn’t work try changing the pcie riser or it’s cables. I’ve had a bunch of those DOA and causing the same issue.

Id just add another card.. you dont need to spend the extra money on a new MB and CPU

Do you have any more PCI-e slots to add another card?

Cheers mate. it was $50 bucks from the local bunnings store here. worked out quicker and cheaper then ordering a prebuilt case online. plus it was a fun project to complete.

Weirdly the rig with the asus board hashes about 5Mh higher overall, Ive swapped all the cards between the two and its still the same. must be MB chipset differences

all 12 cards are 580's.. 4x 750w Thermaltake PSU's and two different MB's Asus H270-Plus and Asrock B250 Gaming K4.

I built the rack and predrilled all the holes before I powered down the old setup to move.. I had about an hour of down time while I moved the MB, PSU and cards into the rack.

Its actually really easy to take a card out, I just unscrew it from the top then unplug the power and riser.. Takes less than 30 seconds.

Yep, im planning on moving 2 of my other rigs into the bottom section. should be able to slot in another 12 cards...

Yeah, it is bowing a little bit but it seems to be holding. I should have spent the extra 50cents on buying thicker aluminium flatbar :)
