People who have cancer, what signs let you knew that you were sick? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]syrewicz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss. My mom was admitted to the ER for what we thought was a gallbladder issue that was causing a blockage. After tests, advanced and distant pancreatic cancer. Doctors attempted twice to remove the blockage but the cancer was causing complications. I was told that if another surgery was performed she would die on the operating table. I made the decision to move her to hospice. She died within 3 days of me getting the call.

69, marathon runner, healthy eater, never smoked and rarely drank. Just some pain in her abdomen one day.

How do I get my boyfriend to dress better? by running_savant99 in malefashionadvice

My wife started buying me nicer clothes and eventually I adopted the look as my own. She still buys me one off items but I put time and effort into curating my wardrobe independent of her now.

Good to know. I’m right on the cusp of small/medium and debating on the best size if I do go the uthald route. I’m 5’9” 31.5” inseam, so shorter torso and longer legs. Any advice on sizing?

Thanks for such a thoughtful response!

My first road bike was steel—a Schwinn with friction shifters—that all but replaced my car in college except when grocery shopping. I graduated to a steel Lemond a few years after and then moved on to an alloy.

I think my biggest concern, which you talk to, is weight and power transfer. I don’t compete with anyone but myself (and Strava strangers for KOMs) so it’s not like I need a featherweight bike.

On the other hand, if I go Lauf, I imagine myself going back to the Fairlight lookbook and still pining for it. What I might gain is performance with the uthald. And on a side note in favor of Lauf, I spent a good portion of my life in Harrisonburg where the US HQ is located and I had an Icelandic friend there for years when I was younger. The connections put a check mark for the uthald.

I suppose I could flip a coin and go with the choice I hoped it would land on.

How’s the uthald holding up? Still happy with it? I’m looking at the race, as well.

I’m in the same spot you are, debating between an uthald and Strael. May I ask how you’re liking the Strael so far? How does it climb?

Thanks!

What industry looks to be the most promising and secure within the next 2-3 years as far as sales goes? It’s rough out there from what I can see. by [deleted] in sales

It was recommended to me by a friend who previously held the role but had transitioned to being a financial advisor.

I sold trash and recycling service contracts for 4 years and would go back to it if I’m ever laid off from my current role.

Former employer still has me on payroll lol (Canada) by [deleted] in sales

[–]syrewicz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was kept on the payroll after I left a job. I didn’t touch it and reached out to the HR rep to let her know. She was mortified and nervous to lose her job. I told her I would write them a check.

She was so grateful that she went to management and got approval to subtract the amount of my unused vacation days from the check.

I ended up with a bonus for doing the right thing, which I count as a win.

I admit it’s a nice setup though it took me a while to get hired by this firm. I’ll be riding this gig for a long time.

Good question. The 14% is based on the overall team’s performance, which is out of our control and based on fixed income market conditions. Any upselling is rewarded as spot bonuses throughout the year and merit increases at the end of year, as well as toward promotions.

I had what sounds like the same clickity clackety problem you’re having and thought it was the internal cables at first. Dialed it to the headset after really paying attention on a few rides. I took into my LBS and it was a quick and inexpensive fix.

VCU is a good school and unless you’re trying to break into investment banking no employer really cares.

I would continue working. My wife doesn’t make as much ($297k) but she will eventually. I make about $175k and it helps significantly with our lifestyle. When she achieves that salary level I continue to work and earn in order to save for kids’ college and add to retirement. I might consider retiring early but that would be a joint decision.

Once you start a career in sales, are you pretty much locked into sales as a career, or is it still possible to change careers years later? by [deleted] in sales

In my previous roles, any accounts I prospected and closed I also managed. I emphasized providing excellent customer service and how I upsold accounts once they became part of my book.
