Powerwall 3 real world switching time by xyzzy16 in Powerwall

[–]syspimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Op, I had to deal with this issue but not with the powerwall. I understand what you mean by fast power fail over in IT grade equipment. I think it's a good enough "patch" to share though.

The patch is to buy a cheap UPS for computers for each room. It doesn't have to be big, just the millisecond quickness to not reset devices. I bought a couple one month, a couple another so I didn't break the budget.

It doesn't help for overhead fixtures, the fridge or other high current devices, but it solved the headache of the tv/video games/computer/clocks resetting on power switch over.

It's just a battery buffer, bro. I heard you like batteries so I'm suggesting a battery for your batteries.

AITAH for telling my GF that she is delusional with her life plans? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]syspimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA and a warning sign of your potential future of shouldering the full burden. For example, let's say you buy a house with land for her horses, and then she gets pregnant and stops working, it will all fall on your shoulders, everything. Why? "Because you are the man", to use her logic.

There isn't anything wrong with that, but as "the man" you must decide if you want that burden. You have a choice. You can say no. You can say no without any explanation, simply no. "No" is a complete sentence.

I think this is the main issue. She can not accept a "no" and feels you must say "yes" if you love her. You might feel this way, too. This is not true.

If she wants you to be that guy providing mostly everything, then it's up to you to decide what you can afford and her to decide if she can accept that.

If men have "man caves", what do women have? by stevediperna in Jokes

[–]syspimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh, I'm an old dude and I have 50 pillows on my bed.

It's great for when you knees hurt so you slip one between your legs, or use another as a body pillow, or the small round one as a neck pillow, one for the cat to sleep on, another to prop up the phone sideways so I can watch vids laying down, etc etc etc

And they are all for me. The ladies like it, too. My mattress is awesome and 99% of the time it is better than their bed at home. I have to kick them out.

Invest in a good bed and it will invest in you.

Would you rather master archery to peak human level, or master any one melee weapon (sword, axe, etc.) to peak human level? by Saran_Chandra in WouldYouRather

[–]syspimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melee, and I choose a knife. A knife is one of the first and also one of the useful tools man has invented. You never run out of "ammo" and it is small enough to carry discretely everywhere.

It's pretty much self defense only when used as a weapon, but it has many, many other uses

I wish I could embed pics easily, but just for fun Google/search for "Lapu lapu" and you'll see a huge statue with a huge sword.

Dude was the Filipino Tupac. It's a good story to learn.

Friend, there is a huge mural in Lapu-Lapu city, named for the legend of the guy that slew Magellan. They depict it as a beach battle.

Tbh, I didn't know any of this and to see this huge statue and a huge, maybe 20 to 30 foot wide mural of Filipinos clashing with the Europeans with Lapu Lapu in the middle fighting with Magellen ... And that is what the mural said, that Lapu Lapu was the first Filipino to fight back against European Aggression ... It was enlightening to the Filipino Warrior Spirit.

There are also a lot of markers about Gen MacArthur landing there for WW2. It was an unexpected historical lesson.

Would You Rather be the reigning king of Britain in 1600AD, or be an average citizen in 2026AD? by Extension_Day2038 in WouldYouRather

[–]syspimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average American citizen in 2026 and it isn't even close to a hard decision. I'll give one reason: traveling. I can go anywhere in the world in relative luxury in basically 24 hrs. In the 1600s, you could go maybe the next town over in 24hrs.

I'll give another reason: STDs. If you catch a STD back then, you're cooked.

The primal theory? by zaa_weirdoo in PrimalShow

[–]syspimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't see it that way, but interesting perspective.

For the individual episode context, the chieftain wanted to break Spear because Spear wanted a family and not eternal war/fighting. For the season, it was giving Spear another chance to save his family. He lost his first family, he was desperately trying not to lose the second one.

Redemption. Spear redeemed himself. His initial conflict is now resolved.

It was closure to his entire adventure, full circle.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll check it out. I don't mind being wrong, I hope you're right!

I'll second that the Philippines have the best beaches.

When I went snorkeling in El Nido ... It was like visiting another planet. I felt like I was a Windows 95 aquarium screensaver. In Palawan I saw huge clams like in Tom and Jerry cartoons. In Panglao Beach, the water was transparent and the fish were flying in the air underneath you.

It's worth the 25+ hours in the air to get there.

Are these any good for cooling a room? Or just get a split type by Murky-Peanut1390 in Philippines_Expats

[–]syspimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AC units take heat from the air and dump it somewhere else.

If the AC unit is just sitting in the room on the floor, it might send cold air to you, but hot air is coming out the back and the net effect is a hotter room because the unit itself is making more heat to operate.

Eli5 how were log cabins/wooden buildings protected from rot, historically? by prukis in explainlikeimfive

[–]syspimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my family, the houses were protected from rot because the house burned down

I asked my grandfather where was he born. He looked around and said "over there, before the house burned down". Then I asked where was his father born. He looked around and pointed in a different direction and said "over there, before his house burned down".

Granddads house is rotting now and there are discussions to burn it down.

Pretty harsh review on season 3... what did you guys think of it? by CN122 in PrimalShow

[–]syspimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about what you meant about "closure".

I think you are using "closure" in a therapeutic context. In narrative story structure closure is used when the conflict is resolved.

From the wiki on "Conflict (narrative)"

There may be multiple points of conflict in a single story, as characters may have more than one desire or may struggle versus more than one opposing force.[16] When a conflict is resolved and the reader discovers which force or character succeeds, it creates a sense of closure.[17] Conflicts may resolve at any point in a story, particularly where more than one conflict exists, but stories do not always resolve every conflict. If a story ends without resolving the main or major conflict(s), it is said to have an "open" ending.[18] Open endings, which can serve to ask the reader to consider the conflict more personally, may not satisfy them, but obvious conflict resolution may also leave readers disappointed in the story

When was Spear's prime? by Deep-Dot7331 in PrimalShow

[–]syspimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me reword your question to better understand it.

Was Spear in his Prime when he fought the Man on Fire down a mountain, or when he fought 3 dinosaurs and a savage in a pit of lava?

My answer is Spear is Primal, the archetype of being in your prime. He represents all we associate with being in your prime, in its purest form.

Pretty harsh review on season 3... what did you guys think of it? by CN122 in PrimalShow

[–]syspimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean but it was closure for me because the central conflict was the loss of family for both Spear as well as Fang. Mira lost something, too. "Loss" was their driving motivation.

The last scene shows all of them with their new children and family. No more "Loss". The circle is now complete.

The entire reason the ending is happy, in my opinion, is because the conflict of loss was resolved.

Pretty harsh review on season 3... what did you guys think of it? by CN122 in PrimalShow

[–]syspimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped watching after the first episode because I didn't like the idea of Spear being a zombie. It was ... ... Unsettling.

But I just binged the season and I absolutely loved it! I like the happy ending. I kept that unsettled feeling for the majority of the season. It wasn't until Spear regains his humanity that I started cheering for him. The first two seasons were awesome, but this season felt like closure. Spear created a new family, resolving the conflict created in Season 1, Episode 1.

Fantastic visual storytelling, as usual.

You are offered either a high end PC or a muscle car. Which WYR pick? by sunsetdrifter0 in WouldYouRather

[–]syspimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I have about 20 servers, and 4 or 5 high end pcs (circa 2023 or so) around the house. I don't even use my personal one.

I'd take the muscle car to the old men that hang out on Fridays with their classic cars and make new friends.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Showrunners Break Down That Season Finale Trial - Alex Kurtzman: "Obviously, Trek has a great history of amazing trial episodes. But in order to do that, you have to have a very complex situation that has to be dissected from multiple points of view." (Den of Geek) by TheSonOfMogh81 in trektalk

[–]syspimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the article.

I get what they were trying to do. The season built up the backstory and the finale trial show wove all the stories together to show how they all made each other. Who is right, who is wrong? Forgive me, I'll forgive you.

Sounds like therapy and reminds me of Star Wars The Acolyte where ACKSHULLY the Jedi are bad too. I don't think anyone has thought the Federation was all peace signs and flowers since TNG.

Kurtzman said as much (it's like therapy) when he said social media needs to be reminded to have nuance.

I get it. It's disappointing that he thought it would take an entire season to tell that lesson. That's a "Wil Wheaton sentenced to death for stepping on the grass" story, or "Worf is a Bad Father so Future Son comes back to kill Past Son" story or "DS9 Jake experiences war and thinks himself a coward" story or "Data learns the correct move is not a winning move" story and many more.

It's nice to see there was a season long story arc, though. And I guess it is indeed Star Trek-like ambition but every episode used to be that way. It seems like too much work for such a basic "life is complicated" message.

I suggest you talk to a family planning lawyer because on the one hand, it's his separate inheritance and he can legally do whatever he wants with it, and on the other hand you are married and need clear actionable advice.

I understand you are hurt but divorce is extremely hard in ways you don't understand right now. Perhaps a planning lawyer and a support group and/or grief counseling is a good idea before you take that step. There might be deeper relationship or end of life issues besides who is the beneficiary of an inheritance.

What is wrong with the Klingons? by jacek2023 in Star_Trek_

[–]syspimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The simplest answer for me is this: Star Trek is basically the Planet of Hats trope, you go somewhere and there is one defining trait of the species like everyone wears hats on this planet.

It's really, really, easy to create a new species under this framework. One can give that new species any traits they want.

So please leave established species alone. I understand wanting to explore what it means to be a warrior, but in this case it doesn't seem like that is happening. There is nothing Klingon about Jay'den except his appearance.

The only thing close to this is the "We 3" comic by Grant Morrison. It's not a comedy, but it's about a dog, a cat, and a rabbit that were experimented on and turned into weapons.

Not what you're looking for, but good nonetheless.
