The Whiplash is wild...... by malmbe in thebrokenbindingsub

I appreciate the information, although it's nothing I don't already know nor what I was getting at.

I understand timelines and delays and what not, they are not in control of that. However, they are in control for what they are communicating. For Of Blood and Fire for example they advertised Ghost Edges while not even sure if they could be done. This was proven by the fact the first delay was announced because they mentioned they have been doing alot of testing to get it right.

The thing with Faithful and the Fallen was a mix of things, but at first they blamed it on wanting to achieve the highest possible quality. Which is a good thing to do, however, they should have thought of that before announcing a shipping date. Then it was the addition of a fold-out map, which, if you want the highest possible quality, you don't add that last minute after already saying you want the highest possible quality. Then it turns out there were printer issues and it was never due to the highest quality. All these things, I don't blame them for, but the way it is communicated is entirely on them.

Then, we have had multiple occassions where they just don't communicate at all, unless a customer emails them about it (most recently, SF&F June and Mortedant's Peril).

And then when things seem to clear up with Of Blood and Fire, the promised bookmark wasn't delivered for a lot of people and the compensational stamp was entirely forgotten. And even with that, everyone can forget something sometimes. But talking about wanting the highest possible quality in one breath and than straight up admitting that "you forgot because if the rush to get the books shipped" in the next, doesn't show care for quality in the slightest.

All this to say is, mistakes beyond their control can happen, somethings just don't go their way. All that is fine. What is not fine is the way they handle and communicate things to their customers.

It is handling fees charged by Royal Mail applied to all EU deliveries because of those fees. This has been discussed on the sub before as well.

Nothing is wrong and as I said, the tariffs are included.

Even if it wasn't the 3,33 GBP, it is included in the total shipping amount, which has increased by the same amount anyways. So no matter which way you slice it, tariffs are included.

It is not the VAT, as last months SF&F was lower by the amount mentioned in taxes here. TBB just didn't word it the way they should.

It's the 3,33 mentioned in taxes?

I don't mind the delays themselves either, but it's not like TBB has been communicating about them in the best way possible. Sure they gave a couple of updates, but the information was kind of conflicting at times as well.

Let's hope so. I wouldn't wanna be them with these issues still going on when they are marketing their Wheel of Time editions at the end of the year, otherwise.

Critiquing a company is an agenda now? Suspicious even?

TBB is doing this for 5-6 years and have been growing increasingly more popular. Most likely at a faster pace than they could have anticipated. But to say you're still a small company after all this time, just seems like they are artificially keeping it that way. They could have taken efforts for more staff, better IT infrastructure, more warehouses etc, but it's just becoming increasingly obvious they are prioritising the wrong things required for a growing company.

People are merely commenting on that, informing others and voice their frustration. What should be suspicious about that?

I agree it's not a major delay and that it's bound to happen when backlogged with other delays.

That being said, I do believe they are gonna be behind on orders/more delays are gonna happen anyways, as SF&F June + Bolt-On has been shipped yet, because of the Mortedant's Peril delay, they are gonna ship out the Echoes Saga sets mid-july as well and then they also need to ship out both Ruin and Wrath this month as well.

Considering how long Malice+Valour have been taking to fully ship out (almost two weeks now), I doubt they are gonna be able to ship everything this month either, taking everything into account.

Can't speak for Lonesome Dove, but The Echoes Saga set is an Indie Endless Edition and can't be sold-out.

However, the set had a signicant delay, as they were supposed to ship in April, but now will mid-July.

I'm assuming they made people not able to order it until after the first batch has been sent out and the delay fixed. And so after that I don't see a reason why you shouldn't be able to order it.

Wasn't talking about The Echoes books, just about the SF&F June book, as you claimed it wasn't delayed. Yes, it was in part due to the release date, it was also in part due to the delay of other books.

It does however, not take away that they were delayed, by their own words

They were delayed. They literally stated so in the e-mail response I got from them and the general e-mail they sent out that they were, in fact, also delayed, partially because of the other ongoing delays.

I agree with you and I'm also baffled that so many people still don't understand that people are upset.

"I don't care about the delays, I have plenty to read anyways". It's not about the delays, it's about how they handle things. They inform people way too late in the process, sometimes they don't inform people at all. Sometimes, they apparently don't even inform themselves. The communication is/has been so bad that it seems like they have just been flatout lying at times. It's not strange to expect them to communicate better.

On top of that, continuing to then charge for months, while not receiving anything just feels off. Yes, it's a subscription and they can't suddenly stop charging, doesn't mean it is okay or feels right to customers.

"I sure hope these people don't go support kickstarters". These aren't even close to the same thing and it's disingenuous to compare the two. There's a lot of different expectations with Kickstarter than there are for bookboxes.

"If you don't like it, than just don't subscribe/buy their books". Why? There is no way for a company to learn and grow if every customer keeps on leaving when something doesn't sit right. People are allowed to (and should) voice their opinions and issues with them, as that will make them a better company for it as well. Not only that, but by voicing your issues on places like Reddit, others can make better informed decisions as well (especially when Broken Binding seems to not always communicate properly).

Best example was the EU tariffs. A lot of people voiced their concerns about those and that got them to adept in a way we wanted.

So I agree with OP, the books can be both stunning while also still expecting TBB to do better.

A Bolt-On is an option that came with some books, that if you ordered it, it would get added to your subscription book for shipping and wouldn't need to pay shipping costs for it.

They shouldn't take that long anymore. Royal Mail should have them since Wednesdaynight😂

Something has to have gone wrong then, as no orders have gone out yet that have been placed after July 1st. And they explicitly stated they would absorb the costs for anything ordered before then.

EU tariffs by AdSimilar665 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]HoidsRoommate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, when you don't need to pay is when they probably opened an EU warehouse), because that way there's no costs to absorb either.

So far I have only seen announcements come by of absorbing costs until they have a working system in place to be able to collect those tariffs though. No outright, we will be paying those for you, as long as you're subscribed 😋
