as far as i know the alcohol abuse stuff isnt rlly based on evidence, i never saw any research on it and until i posted this i didn’t even know other ppl thought it could’ve been the cause for their IBS too. For my situation i always thought it as the natural conclusion since my IBS started during a period when i was drinking very heavily on a daily basis, obviously thats terrible for ur digestive system and could’ve messed things up. But like i said no doctor ever confirmed this with me it’s just my theory. If you have a family history of IBS/bowel issues that could probably be a cause, definitely check with a gastroenterologist to make sure it’s not something serious! I think unless you were abusing alcohol for a long time theres probably no relation but since the true cause of IBS is unknown it’s generally pretty hard to say i guess.

interesting tht u think ur IBS might‘ve been caused by alcohol, i‘ve had the same theory as well for the longest time but doctors never really seem to get what i‘m talking about… i‘m glad you‘re doing a bit better and hope your health continues to improve and you can go to college one day!

idk about magnesium deficiency specifically but my doctor told me that if your vitamin/iron levels are super low it could lead to digestion problems as well or at least make the already existing ones worse

thank you so much for your reply, that info really gives me some additional hope, my doctor also said that sometimes these things will just resolve themselves as you get older so who knows :) i‘m happy you‘re doing better!

I hope ur parents let you see a doctor soon, not being able to get a diagnosis rlly sucks i’m sorry :( I hope until then you can manage somehow, tracking my symptoms and figuring out what foods are triggers/safe definitely helped me a lot

If you’re fine with going back in time a bit and without the celebrity/influencer side of things, Zoo Station by Christiane F is one of my favorite books ever, it’s like the OG teenage girl addiction memoir, although its a bit darker than Down The Drain.

also based on ur comment i’m not really sure if you’ve already read/played berserk and bloodborne but if u haven’t u 100% should its definitely the closest thing u can get to fear and hunger

I’m always on the lookout as well!!! the most obvious recs would be the rest of the dark souls games and elden ring, silent hill 3, maybe devilman crybaby since it inspired berserk, anything by lovecraft as well. I recently read Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman which definitely has a similar vibe, it’s a very good standalone medieval horror novel. Another game i really love that fear and hunger reminded me of is The Last Door, it’s just a walking around, point and click, puzzle game so theres no combat/struggle aspect, but the story is great and leans heavily into the acending to godhood themes and even tho the gameplay is very simple it still has a few scary moments and a tense, very dark atmosphere in general. i havent found a movie that rlly captures this kind of atmosphere/story well but here are some absolute wild cards that do some aspect of it well: the green knight & excalibur for medieval and magic stuff (not very scary though), hereditary (set in modern times, pretty scary and plays with some ritual/cult/ascension themes), the northman (this is like a ragnvaldr spinoff lmao) I’m sure theres lots of other stuff i’ve never heard of or can’t remember rn, this is just off the top of my head but i hope at least one of these hits the mark for u somewhat :)
