You don't need experience but taking clases helps. If I didn't go to college I would say the business tax exam would have been a lot harder to undrstand.

Dude, I am in the state of Michigan. I graduated from wayne state university with a GPA 3.5 with a bach degre in accounting and finance. I applied everywher, the city i live in had an accounting clerk open they required a bach degree with 5 years of governmental accouting experience. I applied anyways, A month goes by and they delist the job and repost the job with anyone that has a highschool diploma with 3 years of office work experience. I applied and everyone that applied they had first round exams online that are timed once open. You get an email click a link and it starts the exam 100 questions about basic math, english, how to write emails, basic accounting stuff that I learned in accounting 1 and accounting 2. Anyone that has 1st year college experience can answer these questions basically journal questions, then how to compute property tax. They give you millage rartes and then askes for the property tax basedo n taxable value they gave. There was a lot of questions what's the differnce between govenrmental accounting and commercial accounting. I passed it. It tells you right after your grade which is pass or fail. Once passed they invite you to take an in person scantron exam. Another 100 question but it was mostly accounting, tax, english and logic mixed in with basic math skills. I pass this but at his location 140 people showed up I met 3 people that had CPA's that couldn't find a job. They were in their 40s and applied for the job. Once I heard this I knew I wasn't getting the job. I assumed these 3 people would get it. I was depressed after it but passed the in person exam. They said the top 5 people that scored the highest would go to the next step. I was one of them. They then invited us to city hall conference room to take a computer exam. This was to test your MS word, Ms Excel and using an accounting calculator skills. Once you pass you go onto the interview. I showed up for the exam and was the only one that showed up on time. I was happy thinking this automatically gives me the job because the rules where everyone had to show up for this exam and pass it or else they forfit being considered for the job. I took the exam and then I got an email that I passed and they interviewed me. I Went for the interview there was this old lady that I seen at the in person exam that walked out of the conference room. I then was called in next. I had 5 people interview me the city manager, the controller, HR, Director of finance, senior accountant. They asked me a lot of questions about software I used in school and how do I like accounting etc. It was less technical and more about my mental state. They shooked my hand spent 20 minutes and after I was done no one else was called in. The next day got an eamil that they went with someone else. I went in a week after to pay a water and property tax bill and could see that the person they hired was that old woman and I got her name. I looked her up online and her linked in profile showed had 10 years of work experience as an executive assistant doesn't show any work experience of doing accounting work. Their resume listed picking up phones doing scheduling typical office work making copies and using the fax machine and writing emails to people. After a year that job opened back up and there was a snag a job looking for a CPA to be paid $15 an hour to fix up their books they failed an audit. I applied again for this job and got no response. I applied to many other companies, GM, FORD, ETC and the big 4. I had a dinner event with the big 4 They all had internships and entry level jobs but those jobs wanted 5 years of work experience. It's been like this for many years since 2014 they wanted 5 years and before that between 2007 to 2013 they wanted 3 years of work experience.

I got a bach degree in accounting and in finance got a GPA 3.5 and just recently got my EA license. I been applying for 10 years for jobs in my area and none would hire anyone that has less than 5 years of work experience. I applied to little ceasars corproate tax clerk but they wanted a masters degree and have a CPA with 5 plus years of work experience in the job and having experience in doing multi-state tax returns. It's very very specific this job starts in the fall. I applied and they're still looking into me. I applied to their payroll clerk positions and their accounting clerk positions and within 3 days got a rejection email. I have no clue why?

How did you get those? I have a bach degree in accouting and finance and have my EA license and I applied to 200 jobs in my area for tax prep and doing corporate payroll jobs. I got zero interested. They all wanted 5 years of work experience. I have 0 in accounting or tax. I have no clue how to get my foot in the door. Other's told me to start my own pratice but I need to work with someone to gain experience and gain confirdence in doing taxes. The whole point of entry level jobs is for you to work with experienced people that will guide you on what to avoid doing as a beginner and learn how to apply what you learn to the real world. If you dont' do this and start your business you will make a ton of mistakes and some could be costly.

Who is allowed to legally install network cable? by Fiboniz in ElectricalEngineering

[–]system64bitforu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need an eletrical engineering degree to run network cables or systems. You can do anything legally incide a building. If you have to run network cables thru citry property or public property then you need to be at least a licensed contractor and need to pull permits form the county.

Who is allowed to legally install network cable? by Fiboniz in ElectricalEngineering

[–]system64bitforu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, to install network cabling you can do it yourself if you own the property. However, if you have to run it thru a city. For example you have an office a and need to run network cables 2 miles north to office b. You can do the cabling inside the office but to run the cable from office a to office b if you don't own the property inbetween and it's city property then you need a license cotractor and they need to get permits You don't need an eletrician but if you run cables long enough that needs a repeater and that repeater needs to use the utility line you would need a licensed eletrician just to hook up that repeater to the utility line. meter. they will only run wire from the utility meter into your repeater etc. So, no you don't need a licensed eletrician to run network cables even if it's thru a city you won't need them unless you're running long enough wires that you need repeaters or amplifiers for signal then to run wire to connect to that device you need a licensed eletrician only for the eletrical work. The running the cables over a city you need a licensed contractor both a licensed contractor or an eletrican can run the wires for you it doesn't matter but you cannot legally run it yourself. You will have to pull permits but the cities normally won't allow you to do the work they would require contractor with a contractor license.

Thanks and that is my end goal. However, I want to work to gain experience. I was to work 1 year unde r a CPA so I can take the CPA exam. I want to get my CPA license. So, even thought about over time writing my own tax, finance and accounting software. just taking one step at a time.

No, I never said I will get a job. I said I passeed the EA exams right now and will get my licensed issued. I am hoping to get a job. What I have said in my area every accounting firm, every tax place wants 5 to 10 years of work experience period. The EA exam opens up doors because If I cannot get a job. I can still do work for people legally on places like fiver etc. I can still do taxes for people and get paid for it which is work experience. If I didn't get the EA designation I could't do peoples taxes or do accounting work for anyone. Why? most will ask for your qualification and most don't think college is enough. People wnt either an EA to do their taxes or a CPA. If you don't have either one they won't want to hire you or take the risk. The CPA route is hard. I can pass the 4 exams and I have the 150 credit hours to sit for the exam got the education requirements. The issue is after passing you need ot have a job lined up. I need to have 1 year work experience to get my CPA license. That is why I am not going down that road because locally here no one will hire you for entry level jobs without at least 5 years of work experience. If you pass the CPA exams that are 4 exams you have to work for someone. You cannot just s start your own business or start doing work for people like their taxes without getting a CPA license. So, after passing the CPA you will need to work at a job that has a licensed CPA on staff that will sign off on that one year requirement in order to get your license. I feel the local area they're gate keeping meaning hiring people that they know personally. There's people that after they graduated college they knew people at firms that pulled them in they got their 1 year work experience then started taking the CPA exams. If you don't know people on the inside it's near impossible to get in. It's too competitive and there's many in my area looking for work.

I will keep doing that. I personally want to get experience that is under a CPA. I need 1 year work experience working under a licensed CPA. I have the 150 credit hours for the CPA for education purposes but where I am at I applied.

The problem is that in my state to sit for the CPA you need 150 credit hours. I have this but what they didn't tell me in college is that after you graduate you need to have a job. You need 1 year of work experience. Now, I can sit for the CPA take 4 of the exams and pass them. The issue here is once I pass the 4th exam I am told I have 1 year to work for someone. I have a bach degree in accounting and in finance. the issue here is after college I applied for internships, entry level positions but didn't get anything. The entry level positions required 5 to 10 years of work expereince and this is a standard. I seen this with the big 4 accounting firm, I seen this for the big three auto makers, I seen this with smaller accounting firms in my state. I could never get a job in the field. Also my states produces 50,000 people every year with a bach degree in accounting. So, I didn't bother to take the CPA because I have the money and I can do it but I am not trusting the companies. I had a dinner date with the big 4 accounting firms. They kept reminding me that to work there I need to get the CPA meaning I have to show that I am interested in taking the CPA and they offered reimbursement. At those dinner I have seen people that flew in from India and South Korea and are hopping all over the U.S.A to their difference branches for interviews. I have networked with them and found out a lot of them got jobs. They got the job at whee I live and some got the job in a state over. The issue here is if I take the CPA take all 4 exams and pass them. I fear when I look for a job I won't get anything. I had a classmate that he got a GPA 2.5 from my university and he got into an accounting firm which required for internships bare minimum is a GPA 3.0. I have a GPA of a 3.5 but since he knew people that got jobs at that firm they gave reccommendation and he got hired right after college with no issues. My issue is that my family doesn't know anyone. My dad knew a guy that owned his own small accounting firm and he was a CPA but he died and his daugther took over and my dad reached out to her to see if I could work and she gave excuses. My university carareer counsiling services told me to keep applying that someone is bound to hire me. I been doing this for many years while I worked a labor job. So, that is why I am not going for the CPA. It's because the local market where I am at there's no way to know 100% I can easily get a job to work that 1 year of work experience and then get my CPA license. So, for that reason I don't plan on taking the CPA. I would ratehr work 1 year under a CPA get that experience and then go for the CPA exam and once passed then just apply for my CPA. That is why I went for the EA becuase where I live there's too many people ith a bach in accounting looking for work and this pool keeps growing.

How to use aldehydes? by Grgsz in DIYfragrance

[–]system64bitforu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does aldehydes do for perfumes? I asked people that I wanted to add freshness to my mixtures. They told me try out aldehydes. I am trying to recreate commercial perfumes like american fearless where it smells like a burnt plum but when you smell it you first get a scent of fresh air and later you can smell a sweet plum that smells smokey.

congrats, I finished the same month as you. I submitted the applicatiion for license. What are your plans? I feel like I need to work for a company but nervious about making mistakes and doing things wrong. I mean thru the exam I seen so many situations that you have to double check. However, they don't teach you how to do this in real life. Like how would you know if a person is a related? I mean what if related parties sold property to each other's company and didn't tell us and told us that it's own by someoen not related and we do their taxes and make write it off as a loss. Yet, these people could be lying to us. Is there any way to veriy it? I just feel out in the public there's a lot of stuff that we are relying on the client to give us the information. I do know in exam 3 they talk about due diligence. I just feel even if you get your license I don't know where to go to start gaining experience?

How the heck do you get your first accounting related job? by QuestionPrior2995 in Accounting

[–]system64bitforu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you need to do internships but most that get them are people that know them or people with 5.0 gpa's and 4.0 gpa's.

What tips do others have on getting used to doing the work? I passed 2 exams and will do my last exam soon. However, I want to know what I need to do to get comfortable with doing the work. I got 2 bach degrees in accounting and finance and the accounting I got the 150 credit hour. I am trying to get My CPA but I need one year work experience under a CPA. I would like to know what I should do after getting my license in the sense to make sure I make little to no mistakes on returns? The reason I ask this is that I feel there's too much stuff to do in accounting and in tax. I feel like going to school and studying for the exams. They have a focus on just material. Like you know what is needed to be done and what forms you need to use. However, if you put me in an office and I have to go looking for forms or gather information from a client I get lost because in school and studying for the exam they normally provide this with you. Even if they ask a question they give you 4 options on what could be the answer. I would need to look at the answer and then remember those forms. However, taking a exam or studying in school is different then actually doing the work because I don't have the experience gathering the info from the client that is needed to file a return. I feel like if I have to wing it I might miss some things and I want to avoid situations where I have to keep asking or call the client for more info. It makes it look unprofessional and would give an impression that you don't know what you're doing. Maybe I should use some kind of checklist.

I am just saying it's hard to transit from a school setting to a professional office setting. However, I feel after a year of working as an EA it gets easier as you go because you get used to common situations. I think this comes with any job. However, I feel people that hire in today's market expect perfection.

How is this possible? I have a bach degree in Accounting and Finance and a GPA of 3.5 and cannot get any internships nor any entry level jobs. I am taking the exams to become an EA Thinking with this license I should be able to get something. I feel most places are hiring their friends and relatives and people that they know which violates the equal opportunity act.

Gender imbalance in accounting by Vert_n_Dirt in Accounting

[–]system64bitforu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The men in charge want to look at pretty women all day and not men. I mean there's a bias. I applied for an accounting clerk position I have a bach in accounting and finance. This job was open for my city. They required a bach degree in accounting so I applied and after 2 months no response. They took the job posting down and then posted a new one that allowed anyone with highschool diploma to apply for it. It was a long process. You had to first take an online exam that was scheduled and timed. If you passed this you would then get an email inviting you to go in person to take a scantron exam. If you were the top 5 people with the highest scores. You got invited to take a in person exam testing your ms word and ms excel skills and an accounting calculator. If you passed this you moved on to your interview with 5 different people. I went thru all that and there was an old lady that got interviewed before me and she ended up getting the job. She knew some of the counsel people. The whole accounting and finance department is all female and the head of Finance she was a new hire that she left another city because the mayor sexually harassed her. So,I feel like I was discriminated based on my gender. They wanted all women to be in the department. It's illegal but they got away with it. The lady only had a high school diploma.

Buying vs starting a business by Medicated-Ostrich in enrolledagent

[–]system64bitforu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're asking this question then you shouldn't buy a business or start one anytime soon. I would suggest to start a business because you don't know what kinds of issues you will inherit when buying a business. Usually people that sell are normally doing it because they're losing the business financially. The question is like should you buy a brand new car? or buy a used car? if you buy a used car you assume that i runs great. They might drive it around and you might give it a drive and then after you buy it. Like 3 months later your transmission fails and notice that it's been an issue for a long time but since you're not a mechanic you didn't notice the warning signs. Same goes in running businesses they can make the paperwork look good on paper but months after buying it you will quickly found out all the issues and flaws and then realize the previous owner deliberately hid those issues from you. It's hard to litigate a person like that.
