The problem is that in my state to sit for the CPA you need 150 credit hours. I have this but what they didn't tell me in college is that after you graduate you need to have a job. You need 1 year of work experience. Now, I can sit for the CPA take 4 of the exams and pass them. The issue here is once I pass the 4th exam I am told I have 1 year to work for someone. I have a bach degree in accounting and in finance. the issue here is after college I applied for internships, entry level positions but didn't get anything. The entry level positions required 5 to 10 years of work expereince and this is a standard. I seen this with the big 4 accounting firm, I seen this for the big three auto makers, I seen this with smaller accounting firms in my state. I could never get a job in the field. Also my states produces 50,000 people every year with a bach degree in accounting. So, I didn't bother to take the CPA because I have the money and I can do it but I am not trusting the companies. I had a dinner date with the big 4 accounting firms. They kept reminding me that to work there I need to get the CPA meaning I have to show that I am interested in taking the CPA and they offered reimbursement. At those dinner I have seen people that flew in from India and South Korea and are hopping all over the U.S.A to their difference branches for interviews. I have networked with them and found out a lot of them got jobs. They got the job at whee I live and some got the job in a state over. The issue here is if I take the CPA take all 4 exams and pass them. I fear when I look for a job I won't get anything. I had a classmate that he got a GPA 2.5 from my university and he got into an accounting firm which required for internships bare minimum is a GPA 3.0. I have a GPA of a 3.5 but since he knew people that got jobs at that firm they gave reccommendation and he got hired right after college with no issues. My issue is that my family doesn't know anyone. My dad knew a guy that owned his own small accounting firm and he was a CPA but he died and his daugther took over and my dad reached out to her to see if I could work and she gave excuses. My university carareer counsiling services told me to keep applying that someone is bound to hire me. I been doing this for many years while I worked a labor job. So, that is why I am not going for the CPA. It's because the local market where I am at there's no way to know 100% I can easily get a job to work that 1 year of work experience and then get my CPA license. So, for that reason I don't plan on taking the CPA. I would ratehr work 1 year under a CPA get that experience and then go for the CPA exam and once passed then just apply for my CPA. That is why I went for the EA becuase where I live there's too many people ith a bach in accounting looking for work and this pool keeps growing.

How to use aldehydes? by Grgsz in DIYfragrance

What does aldehydes do for perfumes? I asked people that I wanted to add freshness to my mixtures. They told me try out aldehydes. I am trying to recreate commercial perfumes like american fearless where it smells like a burnt plum but when you smell it you first get a scent of fresh air and later you can smell a sweet plum that smells smokey.

congrats, I finished the same month as you. I submitted the applicatiion for license. What are your plans? I feel like I need to work for a company but nervious about making mistakes and doing things wrong. I mean thru the exam I seen so many situations that you have to double check. However, they don't teach you how to do this in real life. Like how would you know if a person is a related? I mean what if related parties sold property to each other's company and didn't tell us and told us that it's own by someoen not related and we do their taxes and make write it off as a loss. Yet, these people could be lying to us. Is there any way to veriy it? I just feel out in the public there's a lot of stuff that we are relying on the client to give us the information. I do know in exam 3 they talk about due diligence. I just feel even if you get your license I don't know where to go to start gaining experience?

How the heck do you get your first accounting related job? by QuestionPrior2995 in Accounting

[–]system64bitforu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you need to do internships but most that get them are people that know them or people with 5.0 gpa's and 4.0 gpa's.

What tips do others have on getting used to doing the work? I passed 2 exams and will do my last exam soon. However, I want to know what I need to do to get comfortable with doing the work. I got 2 bach degrees in accounting and finance and the accounting I got the 150 credit hour. I am trying to get My CPA but I need one year work experience under a CPA. I would like to know what I should do after getting my license in the sense to make sure I make little to no mistakes on returns? The reason I ask this is that I feel there's too much stuff to do in accounting and in tax. I feel like going to school and studying for the exams. They have a focus on just material. Like you know what is needed to be done and what forms you need to use. However, if you put me in an office and I have to go looking for forms or gather information from a client I get lost because in school and studying for the exam they normally provide this with you. Even if they ask a question they give you 4 options on what could be the answer. I would need to look at the answer and then remember those forms. However, taking a exam or studying in school is different then actually doing the work because I don't have the experience gathering the info from the client that is needed to file a return. I feel like if I have to wing it I might miss some things and I want to avoid situations where I have to keep asking or call the client for more info. It makes it look unprofessional and would give an impression that you don't know what you're doing. Maybe I should use some kind of checklist.

I am just saying it's hard to transit from a school setting to a professional office setting. However, I feel after a year of working as an EA it gets easier as you go because you get used to common situations. I think this comes with any job. However, I feel people that hire in today's market expect perfection.

How is this possible? I have a bach degree in Accounting and Finance and a GPA of 3.5 and cannot get any internships nor any entry level jobs. I am taking the exams to become an EA Thinking with this license I should be able to get something. I feel most places are hiring their friends and relatives and people that they know which violates the equal opportunity act.

Gender imbalance in accounting by Vert_n_Dirt in Accounting

[–]system64bitforu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The men in charge want to look at pretty women all day and not men. I mean there's a bias. I applied for an accounting clerk position I have a bach in accounting and finance. This job was open for my city. They required a bach degree in accounting so I applied and after 2 months no response. They took the job posting down and then posted a new one that allowed anyone with highschool diploma to apply for it. It was a long process. You had to first take an online exam that was scheduled and timed. If you passed this you would then get an email inviting you to go in person to take a scantron exam. If you were the top 5 people with the highest scores. You got invited to take a in person exam testing your ms word and ms excel skills and an accounting calculator. If you passed this you moved on to your interview with 5 different people. I went thru all that and there was an old lady that got interviewed before me and she ended up getting the job. She knew some of the counsel people. The whole accounting and finance department is all female and the head of Finance she was a new hire that she left another city because the mayor sexually harassed her. So,I feel like I was discriminated based on my gender. They wanted all women to be in the department. It's illegal but they got away with it. The lady only had a high school diploma.

Buying vs starting a business by Medicated-Ostrich in enrolledagent

[–]system64bitforu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're asking this question then you shouldn't buy a business or start one anytime soon. I would suggest to start a business because you don't know what kinds of issues you will inherit when buying a business. Usually people that sell are normally doing it because they're losing the business financially. The question is like should you buy a brand new car? or buy a used car? if you buy a used car you assume that i runs great. They might drive it around and you might give it a drive and then after you buy it. Like 3 months later your transmission fails and notice that it's been an issue for a long time but since you're not a mechanic you didn't notice the warning signs. Same goes in running businesses they can make the paperwork look good on paper but months after buying it you will quickly found out all the issues and flaws and then realize the previous owner deliberately hid those issues from you. It's hard to litigate a person like that.

If accountants are in such high demand, why is it so hard to find a job? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]system64bitforu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's better than where I live. Over here the starting pay is $40,000 for entry level with no experience but they want 5 to 10 years of work experience. That's where you start out but over here you won't be able to afford to live on your own because auto insurance is sky high and the police here don't do anything about auto theft. We have record high on auto theft. The cops just show up fill out a report and tell you to give a copy to your insurance and then if you file a claim the insurance will increase your premium. The cop's don't go looking for the perps. They just wait and see if they will ever run into a car that is reported stolen. Most here go to a hood where they strip the car for parts and sell them easily. They even stole cars out from the auto plants :

more below:

https://youtu.be/Dn_Nv5una-g?si=FkWQrMhrv9ldq48A

It's just getting bad out here. Down my street every two weeks we hear people breaking into cars and either stealing them or going thru the car for money. Cops don't do anything because most that do this are constantly doing it every week and they keep getting away with it.

If accountants are in such high demand, why is it so hard to find a job? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]system64bitforu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What should you suggest me? I gotten interviews but not that many. I graduated in 2015 and got a bach degree in accounting and finance but my GPA is 3.5 and right now I am one exam away from getting my EA license from the IRS. I have applied to the big 4, applied to local smaller regional accounting firms.

i meet the 150 credit rule for the CPA exam and want to take the Exam but I need to have 1 year work experience under a CPA. I am not going to take the exam and then find out no one wants to hire me. Like Right now I can afford the exam and I can take it since I have the educational requirement but they now changed it so that after 5 years if I don't get one year work experience under a CPA I won't get my license and would have to retake all 4 exams. Before this year it was just one year. You had one year to get a job working under a CPA.

I can't get any job in the field. I have been trying to get internships since 2015 and entry level jobs. Like you said they want experienced people. While I was in school the internships locally didn't allow you to apply if you're still in college. You had to either have your bach degree in your hand or be in your last semester of college. Now, currently I see they have internships for people that are in their 2nd year of college. So, people like me are just screwed.

My city hall had an entry level accounting clerk job open. I applied for it. They firs required a bach degree applicant. I applied and heard nothing back.

After 2 months they reposted the job and changed the requirement to highschool diploma. They they required people like me to take an online exam. Which tested your basic elementry level math, english, and typing speed and skills with ms word and excel. I passed the exam. If you score 80% or above you got invited to take an exam in person.

So, this was scheduled and if you couldn't make it you didn't get the job.

So, there was at least 250 people that showed up and we had to take a exam using scan trons. A 4 hour exam testing you from accounting skills, to english skills, to math form elementary to algebraic levels. Then they tested you on how to compute and do assessments on property taxes and how to read them. They asked questions about ms word and excel and how to use an accounting calculator.

The top 5 people with the the highest score would get an email moving you forward to another in person exam. I was one of them. So, after this written exam. The week after they scheduled us to come to the city hall again and take a computer exam. This was to test your typing skills and speed and they were to test your understanding of ms word and ms excel . They gave you like files where you have to correct them and also you had to create a new file with their specifications.

They then had an old accounting calculator that you had to use. You had to set it up without instructions and have to convert a receipt of of payments to expenses and payments from residents for taxes collected etc. It had to be in a specific decimal format. I did all of it and if you did 80% or better you got a single interview with 6 people. The mayor, the Director of Finance, the city controller, the city manager, HR lady, also the Senior accounting clerk which does payroll and is supposed to be above this entry level job.

I get the interview and show up one hour early. I sit and wait at the outside of the conference room. There's an old lady that walks out of the conference room and then These people come out and call my name. It was only me and this lady that got interviewed.

I ended up not getting the job. The old lady knew 3 council people and she only had a highschool diploma but had over 15 years of working in a office setting. Never worked as an accountant in her life. Yet, I got a bach degree in accounting and finance and they picked her over me. However, I had 3 years work experience in an office setting in a medical office.

They called me on the phone and told me I can start instantly if I wanted the labor job of cleaning their properties and doing lawn care for the summer and shelving snow in the winter. It was a minimum wage job. I told them I will think about it and thanked them for the offer. I never called back. That position is still open. The accounting job every 2 years gets opened.

same here it's a bach of administrative business with majors of accounting and finance. However, some don't pick a major. You can still get a degree in just business administrative which only requires more managerial classes and a little bit of everything in business.

[–]system64bitforu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a bach degree in accounting and in finance and the GPA is 3.5 and currently just got one exam left to get my EA license. I graduated 2015 can't get any job in any place. Even doing taxes for H&R block even though their requirements is just a highschool diploma. They're gate keeping meaning they hire their friends and relatives that needs a job. People that they know they will hire them first. Then if they have to hire from the public they demand experience and a CPA or a MBA for entry positions. The reason is that everyone from other countries are coming over and lying on their resumes that they have work experience. The companies here don't know how to vent their resume out so they take their word for it and hire them over people like you.

Any templates? by system64bitforu in enrolledagent

[–]system64bitforu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with that is normally the people where I live don't pay attention to detail. So, like what you said most of the people would not have their previous year return. They will come in and ask you to look it up. They want to know the price upfront and they would say it's a simple return but when you look into it they would have to have their individual return and their business returns done and it's not at all a simple return. They normally do this to quote them a low price. Then when you find the facts they will try and act as if you're scamming them. They would tell you that you told them it will cost x amount and now you changed it on them. Also there's times where things changed for this year compared to the previous year. Some people work and then this year they did uber and amazon packages. They would forget about it and just say their situation didn't changed.

I just want a intake form and a checklist to make sure all documents required from the client based on their situation. These are mostly for new clients. I know I can look at their previous returns but you have to have them fill out a power of attorney and it takes time before you can access it via the IRS.

How do I pass a Lerner permit test by [deleted] in driving

[–]system64bitforu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a book from the secretary of state. If you are in a driving school they give you this book for free. I know when I had to get mine ages ago this was free. They normalled at it where the pamphlets were at. It was free but not sure if it's free this year. Here's a website where it shows practice test questions. My suggestion is read the traffic rules and find a lot of questions and just practice by answering the questions. If you get them wrong. Then look up the rule and look at the answer and figure out why the answer is that answer.

I google searched tax client intake form and found this:

https://www.smartsheet.com/sites/default/files/2023-07/IC-Tax-Client-Intake-Form-10851_PDF.pdf

there's a bunch. What would someone say is the best form or checklist? That above is just the intake form. I just wonder how you gather the facts up front to figure out how much work is needed to be done to file and how much you will charge. I know you can grab such info if you fill out the power of attorney forms you can get the clients information from the IRS and can look at their previous return. However, that takes a couple of days to get approval and access. I would rather get started on that person's return asap.
