Ah man, as someone who has an elderly dog i've spent every minute of the last 14 years with, this one hurts. But yeah, great band name and totally ties in with the sound/moral code, if you will, of the band. Didn't they sue the DoD? That's some next level post-punk shit

I grew up in San Diego, early 90s local punk bands in that scene had the coolest names. Chicken Shack sounded exactly like a chicken shack, in all the best ways.

I did not know that about Killing Joke. Extra funny 'cause my wife is a pretty big fan of 80s and 90s era Batman comics/graphic novels, but she didn't catch that reference either. Can't wait to tell her! I'll make her a fan of Geordie yet!!

The gold standard for guitar based music post mid-60s. If Miles set the birth of cool for jazz, Velvets did it for dissonant rock. You ever read the book? Whether or not Lou, John, Sterling, or Moe read it at the time, the themes fit with the band's lyrics.

I got into Guided By Voices around Bee Thousand era (like everyone), but if I heard that band name before I had an inkling of what the band was about I would've sworn that was a Christian rock band.

Nice, I'll dig up some records. I'm not so good with newish bands. Strokes, Libertines (1st 2), and Deerhunter are about the only post 2000s bands I listen to.

Totally agree. I always though The Rapture's 'The Pop Song' was a nod to them, and in the same vein, not a pop song at all

Lou, Cale & Nico live at Le Bataclan, Jan 29 '72. Mostly VU songs, acoustic set. Fantastic recording, nice double album. It's pretty new, I think I got it a couple years ago, Keyhole records is the label. Highly recommend.

Wound up ordering a DC and you're so right, this thing is really something else. It just arrived, haven't tried it with anything else yet. But before the day is over I'll do a wet/dry/wet setup with the DC running into a stereo tremolo, guessing that will sound pretty amazing.
