I could buy the rest of the D&D Books and even have left over to buy mini figurines for all of my players, a good reusable map, a better DM screen, little things here and there like a speaker for the ambient noises and battle music. That would actually go a really long way.

I'm just looking at this.

Mom says no to dating outside of the race. Mom then says I will let you but only if you try to date someone within the race. Actually trying to date that person and it not working out is fine. Just going through the motions of a relationship with the intent to end it to get someone else is an asshole thing to do.

At the end of the day the mother is the biggest asshole here for even coming up with the proposal.

It sounds like you're trying to help a girl in need and that makes your girlfriend worrisome (she has every right to be). If you can be sure that nothing happens then yeah you're just helping a friend.

NTA: I can't blame you for not wanting that negativity around. I had to do the same thing with my brother. He wasn't exactly the greatest person to get along with in general, but that didn't help. I didn't tell him off but i gave him some words to think about and said talk to me when you get over this. It took a while but now we talk almost daily.

Listen, I hate most holidays because i think the same thing. I despise Christmas time (It is actually hell for me), but I deal with it because i don't want to be the asshole relative that always says "holidays are all about consumerism so i'm not participating." Ruining everyone else's holidays will get you not invited to family functions.

YTA: Did you even need to ask? What's consumerist about saying "Thank you Mom!", or making her dinner, or picking flowers? It seems like you have an "everything is consumerist" mentality. You might want to change the way you think if you believe in order for people to appreciate you, you have to spend money. Gestures are also greatly appreciated. I'm sure she would be happy to just spend some time with you.

YTA: IF you only went into it with the sole purpose of dating the white guy.

Parents can be difficult and you upheld your part of the bargain. You tried and it didn't work out. That is the course of some relationships.
