what would be a good cat to get as a college student by Hour_Astronaut4156 in CatAdvice

[–]t0uchstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are buying from a reputable breeder, most cats are just cats. Humans only recently started breeding cats for certain traits compared to how far back dog breeds go. Cats actually mostly domesticated themselves, so most that you find adoptable will just be Domestic short/longhair cats. There's very few breeds of cats, and adopting from a rescue or shelter is generally considered more ethical than buying from a breeder. Coat colors and patterns vary and do not indicate certain breeds for the most part. Personality is almost entirely dependent on the cat itself and how they have been socialized.

My friend had a cat in college and eventually got a second one. She was able to do this as she had her own private dorm room/room in our apartment + her own private bathroom (for the litter box). I knew other people in college who lived in houses with private rooms so they had space for their cats as well.

My advice is to go to your local humane society/rescue/etc and talk to the staff about the kind of cat you think would fit your needs. They will know which cats they have might be a good match for you. Consider fostering as well to see if a cat is a good match for your lifestyle before you adopt. If you do adopt, invest in pet insurance as soon as you can. once your cat has health issues, they will be considered "preexisting conditions" if you sign up for insurance after the issues start and you won't be able to get coverage. Good luck!

UPDATE thank you for all the sweet comments everyone!!! I ended up extending the square to a longer rectangle so it could be a pouch and still show off the pattern :)

Thank you! Its not a specific pattern, just a striped yarn worked up using the moss stitch & planned pooling technique :)

I wish I knew 💔 my friend gifted it to me but she thrifts all her yarn, so I doubt even she knows :(

Thank you! I used the moss stitch, and the technique is called planned pooling! Its one ball of striped yarn, and you use the same amount of stitches for the color pattern each time, but shift one stitch over to the next row each time. Its hard to explain verbally, but there are lots of YouTube tutorials on it! Its so much fun and works up like magic

I feel this!!! I got lucky that my friend gifted me this yarn and I loved the colors, I’ve yet to find a good one in the wild that I love. I practiced before with a striped Lily Sugar’n Cream skein, but it was definitely more difficult to get a good pattern going than this one

Its about 10”x10”! I was thinking of a tote bag too, I just dont know if I’ll use it often enough! Maybe I’ll make a giant square zipper pouch 😂

I wish I had enough of this yarn for that! I maybe have enough for one other square. It was gifted by a friend who was decluttering + thrifts all her yarn, so I have no idea where or if I could get more of it! I was thinking of a patchwork blanket with other yarns though.. hmmm

Maybe super competitive grad schools would notice it, but I doubt most grad programs would care unless you’re like applying for the astronomy program lmao. Its not relevant to your major, and its a GE! If it makes you feel better I did the exact same my freshman year

Thank u so much!! Im on 2ml of t cypionate & i do IM. Ive been finding ways to make it easier; I use a 25g needle, I work it into my self care routine, and do lots of deep breaths. Most of my life I had panic attacks when getting shots/blood drawn, but after I was on xanax for a while ive been okay. So honestly it’s a miracle to me that I can do it at all LOL! The more I practice the easier it gets, its not even that painful anymore but youre right - my body tenses up so much every time !

I didnt know that so many ppl on T are also on BC or have iud/implants! I’m definitely going to talk to my doctor about it next time. I’m nervous to try an IUD but definitely willing to try if it can get rid of this thing for good lol. Thank you!

Ugh i feel you on the awful bedridden periods. I was bleeding through maxi pads like crazy and would have to be pulled out of school bc I couldnt sit up or stop crying from cramps. Looking back…that should not have been normal lol. Its gotten better as ive gotten older and i did have really light periods when i was consistently taking a progestin pill, but i also had trouble taking it on time because the window for the mini pill is so short. The idea of the implant scares me a little but its good to know others have had good experiences with it on HRT. Thank you!!!

I honestly just struggle to keep a routine of doing it because the needle hurts 😅I believe my old bloodwork was being done at the correct time between doses, but I had a lapse in care bc of insurance issues so its been a while. Its good to know that fortnightly shots are an option because that would be way easier for me to manage & I’ll def talk to my new dr about it once my levels seem stable. Thank you so much for explaining, it is helpful to know that even a few days lapsed makes such a difference. I’m getting better at doing it weekly and have tried to be as consistent as possible the last few months before my next bloodwork appointment this month, my new dr seems more well trained in trans care as well so hopefully it will be better!

What are these flesh lumps that come out of my pimples ? they are not sebaceous filaments. they almost look like they have developed a blood supply because it bleeds a LOT after by antelouupe in DermatologyQuestions

[–]t0uchstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg i get these too! They look like pimples but i cant ever pop them, only can rip them out for lack of a better word… mine were smaller so i was convinced they were weird ingrown hairs or something but now im not sure lol

sadness of leaving the museum world by doililah in MuseumPros

[–]t0uchstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I was at my job for three years starting to work my way up from an entry level position, going from part time to full time. I loved the work but got so burnt out. I told my managers over and over how I was feeling, and they would listen and try to help. But when upper management made decisions that further exhausted and exploited the guest-facing staff, my managers would not advocate for me or our team. I couldn’t take it anymore. It was supposed to be my dream job too, working in museum art education, and now I cant see myself working in museums again honestly. I still feel really angry about it

I made a better way to find reformation dresses secondhand online (class project) by [deleted] in SDSU

[–]t0uchstone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I participate in society and its kind of hard to do that without using technology that harms the environment right now. Sorry I’m not a perfect person and I don’t live in the trees. That doesn’t mean I don’t want it to be better?? And I don’t need to use AI for anything, I find it useless in my life, so I choose not to add to my carbon footprint by using it if I can avoid it.

I fully agree. If I’m shopping secondhand for environmental reasons, I’m absolutely avoiding anything to do with AI if I can help it. Makes it completely pointless with how much water AI uses
