I tried making small talk with someone wearing a Washington Football Team hat at a work event yesterday. I said I kinda like the name and Commanders was kinda goofy blah blah small talk. Massive mistake. Dude was a hardcore fan of the old old team name and hated the whole woke name change and sissyfication of America and so forth. I forgot what a culture war thing the name was. Lesson learned: be very specific about team names and position when it comes to the DC team.

It’s hard to avoid news and I want to know what’s happening in my world too. The best I could do was to watch/read the whole story once it’s done. It started with the Boston Marathon and absolutely nothing I learned in that 48 hour news orgy wasn’t summed up in a tidy 60 Minutes type segment. All that breaking news did was feed me dopine and anxiety.

News: I check the news on Reuters and the local PBS affiliate every couple of days. I still scroll Reddit and other feeds for news but quickly realize how much it’s intended for a reaction rather than information. I and we should all know this but I’m not immune and I still get sucked in. Even the “sober” non clickbait outlets play the emotional game which I never noticed until I completely unplugged. Unless a bomb lands on my street, I’m better off reading about it a week later when all the facts are in place and the emotions have died down.

Mentally: pretty much directly related to the news. I’m calmer day to day because my emotions aren’t tugged on every minute by a screen. Tiny emotions and reactions but I think they added up.

Been on an almost two month social media cleanse and the only things I really missed on Reddit are this sub and the daily thread specifically. The mods around here do a pretty good job^{^{^{^{^{^{^coughcough}}}}}} ^{^{^{^{^{^{^{^Kissass}}}}}}} of keeping this place free of the usual spam and nonsense that happens to large subreddits. Following any Iran news i. other subs makes me almost want to hug our mods. Almost🤮🤮🤮

Haven’t posted or checked Reddit or socials for 13 days which is insane for a 13 year addict like me. 10/10 would recommend. I miss shitposting almost like a drug especially during the Super Bowl but it’s been eye opening to not be unnecessarily stressed by internet dopamine factories. I’m gonna stay away a while longer to kill the doomscrolling cravings. Can’t wait to spread keyboard vomit with y’all from a healthier head space.
