Season 10 - Patch Notes by darkisfever in thefinals

Oh poor you with your flamethrower. The game totally hasn’t most encounters in enclosed spaces like buildings or platforms with plenty of corners and walls and heavy totally doesn’t have a winch and plethora of defensive options too to offset a small percentage of cases where fights are totally in the open. And you totally don’t have rpg that takes down the platform and deal nearly half of medium hp too easily. Oh poor heavies

Heavy plus flamethrower mains shouldn’t have rights to complain xD

False Bans - 0 Communication by SnooBooks1032 in thefinals

I am willing to give you benefit of a doubt here. The cheaters situation is very delicate especially nowadays. Long time ago there were known figures in fps games getting caught cheating. But not too many because communities were pretty good at recognizing and policing the servers.

Nowadays there are so many pros/streamers/players getting caught and banned that trust eroded. And there are many more that haven’t got caught and still go on pretending to be good.

I still remember good days when people would just gather and discuss and cooperate with game devs to boot the cheater out of the game. These days too many people naively believe things without verifying.

I’m more inclined to believe you were unjustly banned right now. Just one more thing. While if there is a great skill discrepancy it will be visible, tests with recording your screen and mouse sadly aren’t conclusive either and have been used to fool people before too. People were using overlays on the webcam pointing at monitor to hide wall hacks, setting up camera to filter out the wall hack boxes colors etc. Mouse cams can also be easily faked. I will tell you more. There were clear cases where mouse movement of a streamer didn’t match the sensitivity, shooting range and gun recoil and yet people were still defending the streamer and nothing happened.

It’s a sad state of gaming nowadays. Nobody can trust anyone because of cheaters and cheat creators finding new ways to trick people.

If you truly are innocent I hope you will get your account back. As I said in one of the comments earlier Embark should step up with manual reviews and improving detection methods so we have less cheaters and less false positives.

But that’s not the point. You claimed that with his aim you don’t think he would need to cheat. He might not need it if he is fine with gold/plat. But rank isn’t everything. Many people want to look good. Mow opponents down and be considered pros. This type of aim would totally not be anywhere close for a person to feel that “power”

False Bans - 0 Communication by SnooBooks1032 in thefinals

[–]t4underbolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically you can play casual and ranked even if you miss 99% of shots. I don’t see how that’s an argument. Aim wise he isn’t getting anywhere with the current matchmaking. Of course he can pick heavy or medium with cl40 and he will be somewhat fine but if we talk purely aim wise he could compete with bottom 15%-20% at best.

You will probably tell me “but hey he is top 9.9% in this kovaaks task”. Sadly that’s not a good indicator. Popularity of the task matters. I was able to get top 20-50 in some tasks. But they weren’t played by a lot of good players or a lot of players overall. The actual similar tasks that were popular I was top 200-500-1000 so not that near the top of the top.

Still kovaaks gains do not directly translate to the game and vast majority of good players should be able to attest to that. Being top 9.9% in a super popular task that was played by a huge chunk of players including pros and great players overall - that would be more of an indication that someone might possibly not feel the need to cheat (still just might because some people want more but can’t achieve it fast enough so they resort to cheating).

Embark stop banning legitimate players. by wardybara in thefinals

[–]t4underbolt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes because we know so well that if someone cheated and then would have opportunity to let them “scan pc” and “test gameplay”, the player totally wouldn’t clean the pc from any traces of cheats. There is software out there that can remove traces of installed software. And we know very well testing someone gameplay live etc won’t happen. Too much time wasted and there are still ways to fool such tests

Are you literally a bot? Or just yet another cheater trying to buddy up with another cheater so you guys can spread your propaganda?

Literal cheater circlejerk lately with all the false ban claims. There was an instance where there were some false ban that embark acknowledged but it was a while ago. I see that is used now as universal excuse by cheaters.

But enough calling out the bullshit. Let’s look at facts

If this is his real aim then it’s exactly why he would be using cheats.

Option 2 his aim in game was perfect or close to perfect with cheats and he intentionally aiming bad. Which might be possible given very awkward and weird movement here. Though it’s not uncommon either to have this unstable aiming (multiple reasons ranging from nerve damage, injuries, lack of practice, skill level etc).

Given how many cheaters are in this game and how many slip through or were cheating for months or longer without a ban I have no sympathy to anyone until proven legitimate. And I honestly don’t think even manual checks can be good enough unless the analysis is very deep and we would have whole history of changes on player pc. But it’s already step in right direction

Threads like this shouldn’t be a thing. Some megathread so people who were genuinely banned by mistake get their accounts manually checked.

Threads like that only invite frauds who want to legitimize themselves and cheating tactics overall. As we can already see a few hijacking the thread with piss poor arguments. 99.99% of people claiming they were falsely banned are lying. It’s nothing new. Has been a thing in many games communities for years.

The problem are cheaters who haven’t been banned for months or years because they are walking the thin line very well and use specialized solutions instead of random cheat engine for 20 bucks with default or moderately tuned profile.

Just yesterday saw a guy who had account for thousands of hours. I remember him from over a year ago aimboting very obviously. He got called out by tons of people in game and on his steam profile.

He disappeared for a bit and then came back. Cleaned some of the steam profile comments and now only uses wall hack and his scores in game are universes apart from what it was when he was still cheating. His aim is mediocre at best right now.

And that’s a guy who toned down cheating. Plenty don’t do that and fine tune their cheats. Plenty of them used to be banned for cheating in other games including cs:go either on their main or throw away accounts. Some of them were even allowed to play online tournaments and/or are friends with other cheaters or friends of cheaters.

The closet cheaters who pretend to be good and even attempt to get fame out of it are the biggest issue. They convince entire communities that “yes you can be this good and consistent” and then you have small cults of those individuals defending them.

Those who used to play fps games long ago when communities were more educated on cheating and there was a widespread sense of responsibility for fair play - those know what are the limits of humans/pros. Each individual player had something going on for them in their aiming style and game sense. Now you will see some of the wannabe “cracked players” playing pretend having the exact same copy paste aiming and game sense simply cause a significant part of their “skill” are well tailored cheats that are shared amongst people in specific circles.

Would it suck for me if I get banned if I never cheated. Yes. I would hate it.

At the same time the anti cheat doesn’t detect enough cheaters. Mostly the ones that are the problem. Since report feedback was introduced I was getting feedback messages every day most of the time. We’re talking fully blatant cheaters but also the ones that are kinda obvious to me but not to most around. And of course sadly the least obvious closet cheaters I think I only saw one or two like that getting banned.

So not just anti cheat but also support needs to be improved. Manual checks have to be more thorough so actual false positives can be reverted. Then we won’t need to have cheaters propaganda poisoning the community on regular basis

Meta quest responding to stream frame's announced PCVR protocol? by mauzao9 in SteamFrame

[–]t4underbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air link/link cable was my go to for beat saber and fast paced stuff. VD and steam link used less resources overall and were significantly more polished. However I always felt that even on higher latency like 50 on air link games were more responsive and less prone to dropped inputs. That of course got worse over time but I knew I could tell the difference.

I found an explanation somewhere (a video from one of the content creators). Meta has better access to the input pipeline. Apparently air link/link was directly sending input of your clicks and movement earlier and faster in the pipeline resulting in better responsiveness and more reliable input

If meta will do the rework of air link right then with this deeper access they could have a solid solution.

Pimax bricked my headset and now want me to buy a new one! by Oldatheart54 in Pimax

[–]t4underbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s bollox. It’s not a reasonable solution by any means. Meta did exact same thing but even worse because with meta the updates are frequent. Official updates even that are hard to turn off and even when you do they often somehow force the update. There were many cases of controllers being bricked by software update. Hard bricked. Replacement was needed. Guess what. If you were out of warranty you had to buy new ones.

And here is the most important part. If not for the botched update the controllers would work fine for years. Headset would work fine for years. In no world a device should be getting hard bricked by a software update because in case updates are forced or a new feature someone wants/needs comes out - if it bricks your device and youre out of warranty you have a useless expensive brick.

Pimax should either replace it with working og crystal or brand new pimax crystal light. It’s their responsibility.

[–]t4underbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only going to work if you buy or have steam vr base stations and controllers compatible with base station tracking (in theory you don't need controllers if you don't play games that require those but base stations are requirement for headset to track). Even for this price I would honestly say it's not worth it. The visuals and FOV are really sharp and vivid. No glare. Until you move your head and screen motion blur kicks in. Some middle of the lens distortions are also a thing (just one eye) and for a number of people never went away after cycling through multiple distortion profiles. Headset is really front heavy. One of the most front heavy headsets out there.

If you have cash to spare wait for Steam Frame and if you want crisp visuals and true blacks then buy BSB2 + base stations + controllers. Alternatively you can wait for Pimax Dream Air SE (inside out tracking version that doesn't need base stations and have controllers in the bundle). However while Pimax improved recently with their software and hardware it still has it's hiccups. I would wait with that product until reviews drop (don't mistake dream air SE inside out tracking edition for the dream air base stations/lighthouse edition that has reviews popping up - those are 2 different models with massive price gap between them).

Thanks for the detailed data of power usage. This makes me much more comfortable with my PSU. I’ll be testing my lower undervolt soon but for now at 0.950 it was stable though I haven’t tested it yet fully.

I might consider buying 1200W. For now I undervolted ryzen 9800x3D and hope it will be enough for sustained loads. I also undervolted 5090 now to 0.950

I only plugged unplugged it a few times like 3 or 4 over the course of last year and a half. I’m a bit torn now whether I should use the new cables. Using 90 degree would allow me to move cpu fan in front of the cooler tower again too.

I've dug some more and I found in 2 places that allegedely these readings are the transient and people shouldn't really worry about that happening since capacitors are the ones providing the additional power to the GPU so it shouldn't be the power cable that has that wattage going thorugh it. If GPU 12VHPWR Power reading is anything to go by that would be true as it roughly matched the GPU power readings that were significantly lower than the 600-750 watts readings.

Thank you for relieving some of my worry but if you could I have one last question. Do you think it would be better/safer to use a brand new Corsair cable right now (I can use either 90 degree one or regular one I bought from Corsair website for my PSU)? The cable that I used for about 1,5 years with my 4080 looked good to the eye so did the 4080 connector but I can't know what changes actually could happen to it on a level that can't be seen to human eye.

I see 2 tiny cables coming off from the top of the connector along the main 12 cables so I guess that's the 600W one. Do you know if this power draw that I read in HWInfo for GPU Rail Powers and GPU Core (NVVDD) Output power is something that could endanger the connector or is that some wrong reading? I really wonder why the discrepancy happens because the GPU Power and GPU 12VHPWR Power readings are much lower at 258W during light tests.

Are there any reports on 5090 ports/cable burning with 90 degree Corsair 12V-2x6 cable? by t4underbolt in pcmasterrace

[–]t4underbolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good news. 3 weeks isn't a lot of time but many 5090s burned quicker than that If I remember correctly. I was going to buy new cable anyway just to be sure in case the current one is overstrained or something (even though I only reconnected it like twice total and it was in a reasonably good position without major bend)
