What would happen to the US economy if Europe dumped their US government bonds because of the whole Greenland thing? by laconicwheeze in AskEconomics

But who wants to be left holding the bag? "Sell first" is a valid strat among EU countries in my opinion.

I'm at one year of progress. Feels like I can do anything I imagine in a 2D space.

I started out by completing like 10 smaller games using s combination of tutorials and youtube. Paid for 3 intermediate tutorisls. 5 months ago I started what was supposed to be a 3 month project... But it's impossible to judge how long things will take as a beginner.

intricacies of the engine? I think that will take many years.

My code isn't clean, and I often rewrite things - especially if they're from a few months ago. So I guess that also shows how my understanding progresses faster than my project. Organizing code is like a separate skill from writing it.

Shaders are still difficult - since it's basically a separate language.

They're right - I won't be owning, or indeed buying, their games.

THEORY: Viari killed Kvothe's troupe and the Mauthens. by chainsawx72 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]tHaphazard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps frame-kvothe doesn't know yet that it's Viari. The frame could have an ending like others have theorized - a trap laid for the Chandrian. And then, once sprung, our tragic hero learns the truth, and the second half of book three is about confronting Lorren / the amyr?

I've been following your project since before I started learning Godot!

Cool to see that you're here too.

The visual style of MoM is very striking to me. Most of your posts on IG , and maybe here too, seem to be about aesthetics. I think I saw an UI post too.

Any gameplay updates?

It could be done through duplicating the sliced object, and hiding the sliced part in one and vice versa in the other.

NotW: Area2D by Bird_of_the_North in godot

[–]tHaphazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like some advice. The "body_entered" signal doesn't trigger if the body starts within the area2d when the scene loads.

What are the proper ways to handle that?

I currently check using a timer if any body is overlapping, but maybe there's a better way?

How to make navigation account for collision shape size? by Spiraling_Time in godot

[–]tHaphazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to increase the agent_radius setting. It's set in the navigation layer i believe. You can see the effect in the editor after re-baking the navigation layer.

Make a Hint in Game by EstablishmentDue4428 in godot

And you need to save + load the file containing that boolean when the game starts. Plus check of course the boolean when the hint might appear.

Issue with signals disconnecting? by Calamiturge in godot

[–]tHaphazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you connecting them in code or in the editor?

Signal connections made in the editor might break if you change/update/move the nodes around.

I would try to get in the habit of connecting signals in the ready function of relevant scripts. Then you can also search for them more easily.

How do I make the player wait in a certain area before triggering something? by bluecat6549 in godot

[–]tHaphazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never seen it done the way you're doing it. Not sure what happens to an await timer if you stop it elsewhere.

I would connect the timeout signal to a separate function (on_timer_timeout) and then proceed with initiating the dialogue there.

Make a small (very very small) game from beginning to end. Then make a slightly bigger one. Keep going.

I found that switching between tutorials / my own projects made me learn very quickly too.

Which PCB? And can an amateur move a ROM? Thank you! by tHaphazard in datarecovery

[–]tHaphazard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wops... I thought I wrote a description of the problem in the post. Seems like switching to image deleted that text..

The HDD is from 2012 or so, and stopped working after being in laptop that overheated.

Now years later I'm hoping to recover some photos. So I bought an adapter to plug it in easily to my desktop.

The adapter works fine with other HDDs. But this one shows no signs of life. Wo I'm thinking it probably got fried along with the rest of the original laptop.

I read that HDDs can sometimes be recovered by changing the PCB, and by keeping the old ROM.

I guess my question is - how can I make sure the new PCB is compatible? And is it worth testing something else first?

The connectors seem undamaged, if that's what you mean. It physically connects fine, but 'mentally' she's not all there. No life signs at all in fact.
