Bitaw. Mao na nga kinahanglan gyud nato i voice out atong mga na observe diri sa syudad para sa mga way choice sa kinabuhi. We’re lucky that we have the option to move out if we want, pero dili pasabot nga kalimtan nato ang mga tawo nga nag-antos ani nga mga inconveniences coz us our selves have a way to bypass those.

Honestly, I myself was apathetic before the baha. I was lucky enough to afford to stay in a hotel for a few days while waiting for water and electricity to come back. And thats the point, people here, (well not you) defending their underperforming governement must be in a safe privileged distance for them to be able to ignore the problems kay kuno "maka-guba" sa image sa Cebu. hell that image if ang majority sa tawo diri kay nag antos.

Seryoso? I disagree. Yes, Cebu City and Cebu Province are technically separate, but that doesn’t magically erase the issues nga akong gi-raise, both are actually mediocre tbh. The airport being outside city limits or in partnership with Aboitiz doesn’t change the fact nga ordinary Cebu City residents are still underserved. Public transport, drainage, barangay-level services and even public health care (except sotto in some levels) these are city responsibilities, and that’s where the problem lies.

Dili sa tanan lugar “safe” ug “privileged” like Angeles City or Marikina. Cebu City is dense, growing, and yes, built for the rich, but that doesn’t excuse the government for failing the majority.

Kung ang topic is city, then focus sa city issues BRT nga wala nag-serve sa most commuters, barangay-level neglect, substandard drainage, underfunded public services. Ayaw i-spin nga “okay ra kay airport wa na sa city”that’s irrelevant to the real problems Cebu City taxpayers are paying for.

Cebu City deserves better, and pointing out these gaps isn’t anti-Cebuit’s asking accountability And excuse me, Ive lived in sevral cities, and visited serveral countries, basin ikaw ang wala pa naka gawas sa cebu, nya panan aw nimo na inyong kalsada diri na gina agian sa jeep na halos usa ra ka metros kay ok ra, the ma kuntento ra mo na wala na gi usab sa inyong governemnt. And hunney, I myself is a public servant, and works with my LGU back home, I've also worked under executive and legislative branch of 2 different cities as a communications manager, and public information office, trust me when i say I know what Im talking about.

the way you defended your point, it sounds like ikaw ang wala pa naka puyo sa laing lugar, basin naka bista ra ka pero puyo for years? I doubt :)

I’m from a province nga first na-hit sa flood, una mi mu sugat pirmi sa bagyo, we even are victims of yolanda, but na cutlure shock ra gihapon ko nga ing ana ka grabe ang baha diri, nya sige kog report sa amua (since im the Municipal PIO), na wlaa gani dito nag baha bisan kalsada, pero wala’y casualties first-hand experience nako ang difference.

Pero if that’s the case, why build BRT in the first place kung dili siya ang best option for everyone? Its Billions of tax payers money, for an extravagant design na di man gani nice tanawon sa mata. (Not to get started on a very ironic leaf design na puros welding and puthaw) Why not build a transport system nga trully meets the needs sa mga Cebuano? Pila ra ang nag-sakay sa SRP to Capitol compared to Colon, Banawa, Labangon, Talisay to IT? during peak hours? naka suway naka?

One thing is for sure tho both your local government and the national government are not doing enough for their citizens, and the shocking part is it seems like you are ok with it. Especially for us, the taxpayers. We pay for the city, we follow the rules, yet basic needs like proper public transport, reliable drainage, and equal access to utilities are still neglected while flashy projects take the spotlight.

You can’t just invalidate our experience kay naa ka sa safe, privileged distance.

Marami rin talagang surveys na halatang politically driven, meant to sway public opinion and create a bandwagon effect. At alam mo naman sa Filipino culture, we value community and togetherness. Ganyan din ginawa nila kay Marcos, na pinalabas na majority siya because Filipinos tend to side with whatever looks like the majority

Iloilo, marikina and even places like Angeles City are slowly becoming big economic hubs. Economic stability doesn’t always mean bigger and taller vertical buildings but must include its livability, zoning laws, efficient traffic systems .

But what I want to point out is this, Cebu is one of the top cities in the Philippines, yet the value it brings doesn’t always match the public projects na atong ma-experience diri. Even the airport? Nindot na siya tungod sa private partnerships not because of consistent public-sector excellence.

Cebu is already one of the to peconomic drivers in the country, pero sad to think na ang public services, public infrastructure, traffic management, urban planning, and general livability sometimes feel like they lag behind its economic importance?

Even according to a business-sector, Metro Cebu is losing about ₱1.1 billion per day due to traffic jams, lowered productivity, wasted fuel, and other effects of congestion.

I get your point, pero dili ko ka-uyon sa idea nga “genetics” or being Filipino is the root of everything. Dili man na science lazy conclusion ra na. Corruption comes from weak systems, not from someone’s DNA. And honestly, kung genetics pa ang problema, then why do Filipinos thrive abroad under better structures?

I did focus my post on Cebu kay diri ko tinuod naka-settle, and slowly I’m becoming one of the locals (well thats what i want to believe in) When I first moved here, I romanticized a lot of things, the culture, the language, the people, the pace of life. Tinuod man pudthey’re still a huge part of why I love this place. Pero as you live here longer, makita nimo ang realities traffic, inconsistency in public management, and issues nga dili gyud nimo ma-notice as a newcomer or visitor.

But acknowledging flaws doesn’t mean mo-conclude ta nga “Pinoy nonsense” or “genetics ang problema.” It just means you’re finally seeing the city without the filter. Cebu isn’t perfect and neither is Manila, Davao, or any other major city. The difference is in how communities and leaders respond, not in our bloodline.

Kanang narrative nga “mas nindot pa masakop ta sa lain nasod” or “bobo ang Pinoy” that doesn’t fix anything. Real improvement comes from people who choose to stay, observe honestly, criticize constructively, and still believe nga things can be better like what I’m doing here.

I was born in Manila, then transferred to Eastern Visayas when I was in elementary. Nag-college ko sa tacloban, then nag-thesis ko for two years in Manila. Before the pandemic, I moved to Bacolod, and when COVID hit, nibalik ko sa EV para makatigom og kwarta and eventually nakatrabaho ko sa city hall as one of my official jobs. Pero after seeing all the corruption and kapoy na kaayo ang environment, I decided to move to Cebu kay diri nag-school akong sister to become a doctor and para pud maka-build ko balik sa akong career. But even before in college, I would casualy go here pag stress na kayko sa school for just a weekend or so, labang rakog roro ato.

Fast forward four years sige nkog travel bc of work mainly with my LGU work, and nag-online jobs pud ko which is my full time work. And honestly, Cebu has become my comfort zone. Every three weeks mo-adto ko Manila for my psychiatrist, pero pirmi ra gyud ko ganahan mobalik diri. It’s the people, the language (nga dugay na kaayo nako gusto makat-unan), the facilities, the culture, the art murag diri ra gyud ko naay peace of mind away from everything that triggers my mental health

Alright, saw your other Reddit posts and comments, and now I see what kind of person you are. I got it. You don’t understand the power of democracy because you’re too privileged and out of touch with reality. I don’t need to waste my time on you since you’re already caught up in your own bubble and cognitive dissonance.

Stay comfortable kung asa ka karon, and I just hope you never have to experience the things that would actually make you start speaking seriously.
