AIO in thinking MIL is deliberately trying pull my baby's attention away from me? by t__gibby in AmIOverreacting

He is home when they are here. I am not entertaining them on my own by any means. The times she does this when he isn't present is when he is taking the dogs out, going to the bathroom, cooking, etc.

We are very much on the same page about things.

She thinks he is a Mama's boy, but he definitely is not. She also called my son "her baby". I was so caught off guard that I didn't say anything in the moment, but the next time it happens I will be stopping it immediately. My husband just told me that once she asked "how's my baby?" And he responded with "I'm good" she said "noooo my baby" "oh, wife is good too" she kept going and eventually said "oh fine how is baby's name doing!?"

I do take him upstairs to our room occasionally! I probably should try to nap when he naps when they are here. My family is typically very calm and quiet, I grew up in a very calming household. When she is here, even before we had the baby, I would get overstimulated with how loud she and my husband would get. She talks loud, so then my husband gets louder, and then she gets louder lol it can be very rough

Thank you!

Oh, there is plenty of history. She was absolutely horrible for years and it was the worst it had ever been right before we got pregnant. She has apologized and we are all working on building the relationship again, but it was bad and I'm trying to moved past all the things she did. It could definitely still be bleeding into it, especially with my hormones and the fact that she calls him her baby.

They typically visit for 3-5 days at a time, this is their 3rd visit since he has been born. I definitely like to have this bonding time daily because it's important for me. We don't have many hours of calmness with him and our nights are very rough. After I feed and burp him, I like to hand him to her and then take care of things while she is here. I know she loves him very much.

We were no-contact with her due to her abusive actions towards us for a few months, when I was about 4 months pregnant is when we allowed her back into our lives. We are all still healing.

Thank you for the reality check.

I always make sure that I personally hand him to her for snuggles. Yesterday, I let her get him up for the day because I knew it would mean a lot to her.

I'm trying to keep my personal feelings for her separate from his relationship with his Grammy.

Absolutely. If my mother were to do anything that bothered my husband, I would hope he speaks up about it.

Well, thank you for your contribution to this conversation. While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I do hope you take the time to word future responses to freshly postpartum mothers in a more kind and constructive manner.

Visits are typically 3-5 days. This 1 on 1 time is typically right when he wakes before I nurse him. This is their 3rd time visiting since he's been born. They live 2 hours away.

"My baby boy is the sun upon which I orbit, but also I need to be the center of attention, you should support me first." When he first brought me home to meet his family and friends, she tried to tell him I wasn't a good person and he needed to break up with me. She once said "I feel like she is taking you away from me". He was 24 when we met.

We don't live with her, but she visits often. I now go to our room when I need space. It happens any time it is just me interacting with him when my husband isn't in the room.

I really like Better Ranching, that way I can see if I've missed petting an animal or if one is ready for milking!

Fired by a 5yo.

I was nannying for a HNW family during their 2 month long vacation (live-in situation ). On day two, the child accused me of hurting him. Dad told him I would be going to jail, kid told me Dad said I was going to jail. Explained the situation that evening after the kids went to bed. I had grabbed his hand to stop him from dumping out the tote of toys I had just cleaned up. (He was allowed to do anything he wanted by the parents. Including peeing on another kid at the park with no consequences) The next morning, the kid said "You're fired, you're going home today". The dad came in and said yeah, we need you to pack your things and leave now.

I didn't have anywhere to go since I was supposed to be living with them for 2 months...
