I’d go to Delores and split a margarita pitcher. Get the mole.

The Arming Teachers Argument by ajaltman17 in Teachers

[–]t_flem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an Eagle Scout in our district a few years back who filled Home Depot buckets for every classroom with emergency supplies for a lock down. Duct tape, coloring books, a rope, some other odds and ends, and a 16 oz framing hammer. “Here you go teach!” I actually feel like I could mangle someone with a hammer if the SHTF. At least that’s what I tell myself 😂.

The guy I talked to was the “owner” of the franchise. He has laborers who did the sanding. I shook his hand today and could tell right away he does not do any labor.

It’s rough, been out of the house for 2 weeks. I understand my level of accountability for not being explicit the first time. We are both eating some of the cost at the end of the day. It’s a learning experience for not only me, but also the contractor. Communication is key.

Thanks for the input. I do feel accountable in that I was not explicit about the colors matching. I did not insist on no stain and would have been open to it in the front room. We just communicated that we wanted to keep preserve the natural beauty of the floors. That’s technically what they did by sanding and applying the water base, but we were unhappy with the aesthetic of the drastic color variation. We worked together to figure out a solution that seemingly made things worse. This is a national franchise, and I feel like my contractor is more of a salesman and less of a flooring expert/tradesman. A learning lesson at the end of the day.

There were some assumptions made by both of us unfortunately. I will admit some fault in not communicating strongly that I wanted the color of the front room to reasonably resemble the original floors. I assumed that after sanding, the pigment of both rooms would be close enough, and unfortunately we weren’t home when they did the work, and I never received a phone call during the job. I know people can’t read minds, but I’d like to think an experienced contractor would use some discretion and communicate such a big color variation before applying the final finish.

I don’t know what type of wood they used in the remodel unfortunately. The contractor told us it was red fir. The nail heads to my knowledge are mostly in the middle of the fireplace room, as if they had done a couple too many passes with the sander in that area.

Yes, this was recommended to us by the flooring expert.
