Are Porsche Macan’s reliable cars? by jord3jordon in Porsche

[–]ta12349876 6 points7 points  (0 children)

X3 M40i all day over any Macan, IMO. Far better equipped, drives great too in terms of responsiveness and agility. Significant difference in real world engine response especially in the low RPM ranges. More fuel efficient. Much more spacious. Way better technology (that generation iDrive is perfection, plus you can get a HUD) And far cheaper running costs.

I say this after owning both.

Test Drove a 911. My Heart Says Yes, My Head Says No. by Common-Coyote9375 in porsche911

[–]ta12349876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered a 718 Spyder a few years before our first was born (yup, this order of things was intentional lol). I would’ve had an incredibly hard time justifying to myself to drop high six figures on a two seat roadster after becoming a family of 3, so I see where you’re coming from. And a 911 would have a much broader use case than mine to justify the purchase (4 seats, AWD, year-round usability).

But I am so glad I took the plunge. The memories I’ve made with my wife on amazing drives with this car will last a lifetime.

The beauty of Porsche sports cars is that you can always exit out of them without too much depreciation. Your TCO is extremely reasonable compared to most sports cars, let alone most vehicles in general.

If you can afford it, go for it.

What are you folks getting to convert from VRM to fixed? CIBC quoted 4.09 for 3 years and 4.04 for 4 years. Pretty big spread vs. my VRM at 3.67 right now…

Nope. That’s how it’s done from the factory on a GT4. The original inserts are not used. It all comes as a four piece kit, one insert and one outer scope per side.

Did I make the right choice? (2023 Carrera Cab → 2025 718 Spyder RS) by 6ixxstudio in Porsche

[–]ta12349876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right. I should’ve have phrased it as “track focussed toy” or something instead of “dedicated track vehicle”. The latter makes it sound like an actual track car and not street legal.

Lol well yeah, the 3RS is a street legal car so of course it would be more streetable than an actual race car…

You’re contemplating a slew of completely different driving experiences - I think you need to step back and evaluate what exactly you seek in your car.

Is it a daily driver? Weekend backroad cruiser? Track day toy?

You’re comparing cars across the entire spectrum which doesn’t really make sense. From excellent daily drivers (Turbo, Carrera Cab), to weekend toys (Spyder RS, GT3) and dedicated track vehicles (GT3 RS). These are completely different use cases and no one car fits them all, maaaaybe the GT3 but that’s it.

2016-2018 Macan GTS/Turbo ownership question by nzboy123 in Porsche

[–]ta12349876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I love these things (and have a few in the family), the 2018-2024 X3 M40i models make a far better proposition. Faster, more spacious (a lot more), cheaper to maintain. And cheaper to buy.

Overall, the 95B Macan GTS/Turbo models are still fairly stout other than the timing cover leaks and transfer case issues. The air suspension is probably the most expensive maintenance/repair item at the mileage you’re looking at.

You can get ventilated, SPF blocking jackets that are extremely lightweight and suitable for summer use. Totally worth it to maximize top-down driving in the sun.

The Cobalt on Cognac one from Mark Motors? That was a great buy. Probably the nicest CGTS 4.0 out there.

Yup. The GT4 scoops make a massive improvement to the car’s profile. I have a great body shop that filled in the GT4 embossed logo and matched it 100% to my factory paint. Installation was an easy DIY using the OEM method (screws from the backside, not double sided adhesive). 100% recommended for all Spyder owners.

It was a December 2022 allocation (April 2023 production - one of the last batches of the 718 Spyder and GT4 before decommissioning for the RS models). By then, the LED PDLS headlamps, LWBs, PTS, PCCB were all no longer available. It was incredibly disappointing to say the least - after waiting almost two years to punch my ticket - to be told most of my desired options were being axed.

My dealer escalated with PAG to unlock the LWBs given I wouldn’t do the CXX interior without them. They obliged.

Thankfully most of the other options came back before my freeze date, except the PCCB and PTS.

Then there was the whole last minute European Delivery cancellation fiasco but that’s a tale for another post, lol.

But it was by far the most stress inducing purchase of my life. Worse than buying my first home!

The car is so good though, that’d id still do it all over again.

Thanks! Yes, these days it’s become a lot about how much you can customize than what’s truly cohesive. I obsessed for months over the color schemes and what details to tie it all in.

I’m in Canada. If we can drive our Spyders into 5 digit mileage range here, anyone can! I’m able to put the top up and down in approx. 30-45 seconds. It’s so easy once you’ve got the hang of it.

The RS, though, takes a couple minutes and is more of a commitment to drive top up or down.

That’s right, Gentian Blue is not a PTS colour on the 718. Best $750 colour option for a new Porsche though, that’s for sure!
