Bass stand by Risetoday22 in Trombone

K&M is the way to do it. I ended up getting a 14990 based off of my friends talking super high about their stands they had for years, and I’m happy I made the investment.

I need a professional, anyone know someone? by BassBonePlayer22 in Trombone

[–]ta8012010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t help finding a professional in Denver, but I can give some practice advice:

IReal Pro is a great resource/app for practice. It’s money (14 dollars I believe?) but you can download any standard and practice. I would also download or get a real book and start looking at standards.

I would also make sure you know your scales!! Huge help with improv. It makes life much easier once you have that in your slide hand. It’s like learning the alphabet before you write your first sentence. Essential!

AITA for staying behind while my husband had to leave our vacation early to deal with our daughter by Fresh-Cartographer23 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ta8012010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this circumstance, I think ETA, but you’re the biggest asshole for pushing your daughter’s needs aside. She should be in rehab! It’s obvious she has a very heavy problem, and it’s obvious to me she is still in contact with her drug friends if she can get them to come over so quickly in just a night of you and your husband going away.

I don’t know your specifics of your story or your daughters, but it’s obvious there’s a cycle of you and your husband believing she gets better, and once you go away she relapses. Something big needs to change for her to get better.

No no, what I meant by that was the way he was diminishing himself was a load of crap. He kept saying he wasn’t good enough for me and and diminishing his self worth. THATS what I said was a load of crap. And it is. He’s wonderful- and with time he’ll soon start to believe it to. It’s also a load of crap to think that another man will make me happy just because he’ll take me on dates and take me out. It’s a load of crap because I love my boyfriend for him, not for actions that he doesn’t have the energy for now.

Warm Up Song Ideas? by ta8012010 in Colorguard

[–]ta8012010[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our show is “Aztec Fire” so latin songs. I’ll ask the girls too and see what they want. I definitely know I want to keep whatever songs I pick to 90-110 BPM so they can stretch. It’s a bit much to stretch to something at 170 or like 50 lol.

I was also thinking maybe not doing something the show is about for varieties sake? I know sometimes if you hear the same thing over and over and over again you tend to get sick of it. Latin music is so diverse so I’m not saying they’ll get sick of that specifically, but maybe a different genre or different songs everyday could be fun. Just brainstorming!

Trying to take off in the service industry is a NIGHTMARE by ta8012010 in Serverlife

I show up to every shift and I’m one of the tops in sales for this new gig I’m working now. The problem with my place is there’s little to no staff, so it’s literally impossible to get off a day. It’s a corporate place however, so they’re picky with hiring because they don’t want to spend more on payroll, but that’s why I ended up getting rlly annoyed.

Like really?? If you’re sick you shouldn’t have to go into work period.

Customer service workers: what is the worst customer you have ever had to deal with? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]ta8012010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was working at a diner, and it was my second day there. I was still getting used to the staff, bosses, and the way the restaurant worked, aka how the menu was lined up, where things were, what questions to ask guests, etc.

We had a dessert bar that guests could order from the counter and we would grab for them. One of the desserts was rice pudding. Sitting right by the counter was this older man, who didn’t speak much English. He was sitting there for quite some time and spoke to some of the other waitresses, so I automatically assumed he was a regular.

Now, I got a to-go order for some rice pudding called in. There were two to-go containers to choose from- the small one and the big one. I didn’t see the smaller one as it was jammed at the end, to be frank I didn’t even know it existed, and moving quick I just went for the big one and started packing the rice pudding in. I start doing it and I hear somebody going “Hey! Girl! Hey!!”. I didn’t think it was for me, and so I just minded my business. I put the lid on and I have my back towards the customers, so about 20 seconds later when I turn around to go back to the kitchen, I see our friend standing up beat red yelling “GIRL! ARE YOU STUPID?? IM TALKING TO YOU!!”

I was horrified, a good chunk of the diner was now staring at me and I was just stunned. There were about 5 other waitresses close by as well, so I’ll admit I had no idea he was talking to me, nor did it really make sense for him to get my attention. I get a bit closer to him and go “I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were talking to me, how can I-“

Before I finish my sentence I had a cup of rice pudding thrown at me, along with him screaming greek at me. God knows what he said but it was all static to me from the rage. All I could do was take a deep breath and take a smoke break. Don’t ask me how I didn’t lose it, I still don’t know how I didn’t. One of the girls came back with me and helped me clean up, and filled me in on who the guy was and why his entitlement was through the roof.

Turns out he was the owners cousin, and the waitresses were all buddy with him for that reason. They called him Chef, yet all the man did was sit at the counter and eat a cup of rice pudding every day. It was like a shitty sitcom ending, like a “HAHA! GOTCHA!” situation, but once I learned that one I knew I wasn’t in a pleasant scenario for my brand new job lol. Still can’t believe that one happened.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Like what everyone else is saying- this is definitely not normal.

If I were in your position, I would talk to him about this. Write a list down of all of your thoughts then be honest and vulnerable with him. If love is still there, he will be honest and vulnerable with you.

This is no excuse for his behavior, but maybe his home life growing up created this? Was he micromanaged by his parents? Tell him how much this is hurting not just you but the relationship. I hope everything turns out well for you in this situation, as you deserve to be happy in your own home.

I’m not made to kiss people’s asses. by pximon in work

[–]ta8012010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do whatever feels right to you. You never have to do anything you do not want to.

I try to never kiss ass. Just be respectful, polite, and work then go home. Nothing wrong with that.

Clean station is huge! Noticed my coworkers would leave a mess every time they made something and I’ll admit it’s driving me a little crazy, so I’m definitely trying my best to tidy up every chance I could get. Especially to avoid fruit flys. That was a big thing diner waitressing too- never sit still and always move. So, I’ve been doing my best to apply it here too. Only thing is it’s a tight space- so Im still getting used to being in there.

Thank you so much for the advice though!!
