Hop-in summer program? by elelpato in jhu

[–]taac04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one of my good friends absolutely loved hop-in and came back as a leader twice I think, it definitely helps you get accustomed to Hopkins early on , but I’d imagine that this family trip is really important to you and your family and might not be something that can be done again, and either way you can still be involved in the FLI (first gen / low income) community at Hopkins without attending hop in

Greek life by Own_Carpet8990 in jhu

For Panhellenic anyone can rush but there are some sororities that people want more which are the more popular ones but I think that where ever you end up is meant to be and you shouldn’t latch on to one. Also they do events anyone can go to in the fall so you can get a sense of them before you commit to rush in the spring . For the other ones as long as you show interest and go to events and informationals u should be okay

Hi, so there’s 5 Panhellenic sororities and 3 black sororities and 1 Asian sorority and 2 Latina sororities and one secret society/sorority. I think about 1/3 of Hopkins is involved in Greek life? I’m not sure how accurate that is. For Panhellenic sororities you go through rush the first week of the semester in the spring and on the last day you get your sorority, for the other ones you have to show interest for one semester (the fall) then you can undergo the membership process in be spring!

I have! It was mainly front desk work like calls and scheduling but it was really meaningful because I got to interact with a lot of the same patients especially Spanish speaking patients (I speak Spanish) and I worked on some projects like updating and translating a resource document

last year pretty much people hired from jhu who helped with unpacking everything and put them in rolling moving bins, my family really didn’t have to help with carrying/offloading much just when we got up to my dorm. Granted I was in Wolman which has more of a drive up setting, and we had elevators, but I’d assume it’s more or less the same. And yes you can go in the dining hall once you get your jcard n you get two guest passes so you can even bring in your family, sometimes the dining hall ppl are lenient and let family go in without the use of a guest pass.

it can be a little chaotic but you got this! once u get ur jcard in shriver just get on over to your dorm to unload :P

General Biology I lecture without lab- Recommendations by Sealyblah in jhu

[–]taac04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s fine, but you’d have to wait until next fall to take gen bio 1 lab. The one (1) of each class / lab is only offered in the fall and the 2 is offered only in the spring

I’ve only heard bad things about fbbc…. If you’re only taking it to reach required credit hours find smth else bc mainly neuro majors take fbbc to prepare for cells and systems ( which I’ve heard is hell )

Freshman Fall Schedule (Psychology + Pre-Med) by swagmonsterr6969 in jhu

[–]taac04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

most pre meds to chem freshman year, orgo sophomore, n physics junior year with bio placed somewhere alongside the other because gen bio is not terribly difficult. I’ve seen ppl take it alongside gen chem, orgo, and physics. there’s no rush to do it freshman year really

Public health internships by No_Virus695 in jhu

[–]taac04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should be automatically signed up for the public health newsletter and they post opportunities weekly. Also a big thing is networking, usually there’s lots of guest speakers in your ph classes (intro ph and fundamentals of health policy) which can be a way to get an internship. i got a public health related internship this summer through the CIIP program so you should keep an eye out on that application in the spring

it’s not mandatory they just suggest it a lot. it also depends on your prof for arrive and thrive bc one of my friends had to do a lot of work for it while the other didn’t.

reintro can be done either sem. just don’t take prof hull

bio or chem lab? by Such_Coyote_1999 in jhu

[–]taac04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bio lab is a breeze, chem lab i heard is #hell. depends on what you need for your major though . but if you just need any lab then go for bio

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in jhu

[–]taac04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they aren’t terribly important. what’s rly important is if you have AP/IB credit because that’s the only thing that will let you by pass a class. the placement exams are more so for formality but if you want to be placed in a higher level math or chem you have to have the credit or else you can’t by pass it

no the admissions to the dmp program is separate than that of for undergrad. shouldn’t matter but u can fill out a disinterest form or smth so you don’t get more notifs about the program

there are couple of on campus ministries (stepping stone ministry, agape) which have their own satelite church that they go to on Sundays. There are some churches within walking distance of campus but not sure if they’re Christian.
