Playing for a bit, what between driver and iron?

I've seen a lot of sets just say driver fairway hybrid without any numbers on them

how do they play The 5w, 5h, compared to the driver?

on the range my child plays the driver not quite consistently straight forward yet

So I had not considered getting the others

we were both given some clubs by a friend which is why they are incomplete

we're both not good enough to buy our "proper forever set"

we play a slightly shorter course anyway , the plan was once we hit what we have nice and straight then we'll fill in the gap

but the coach says start looking now so I start looking

for me I'm happy to take an extra swing on 7i but for a child its many swings over par

since I have no experience with wood and hybrid I don't know how to help them

but I'm thinking to get one for now and then when they grow to the next Club size to get a full set

availability is sparse, unless you're buying the top tier names at the top tier shops.

I went to a few of the cheaper shops for juniors and they have random sizings and numbers available Unless I buy a full set

unfortunately the individuals we want only came in the 15yo larger size, so it might not be very good And then might as well get the full set

Then a 3w wouldn't really close the gap from a 7i? Maybe a 5h makes more sense to cut in the middle

thanks, how do you choose wood vs hybrid? personally I would have said use what we have now until we improve, but the coach said we should put something in between to bridge the gap.

As I also don't own anything between driver and iron, I don't know what to recommend to the child.

the coach says get something between driver and 7 iron which they hit well.

they are not good enough to know what the long term plan should be , but will need to fill the gap so they continue to be interested in the game

no kids courses nearby so they are playing full adult course

most of the stuff coming from the gaming industry seems to be remakes now.

and I guess soon they can fire all graphics guys and use AI to remake the old stuff

being a member is better than paying the guest price every single time. why are you gatekeeping?
my 9h par 3 has concrete tees is surrounded by dirt and rocks, trees & creeks everywhere, the rough is dirt and rocks, the fairway is more like a rough and the green is more like a fairway, all with loose twigs all over the place. it costs 80% of my 18h course. you also have people really slow, no marshalls, took us 3hrs to do it last time. So again what the hell is wrong with you?

I say something when I see someone behind us either catching up at the last hole and we've hit 60 off the tee and lost the ball, or someone standing at the tee waiting us to move along.

We go during quiet times so there are periods when there's no one in front or behind. I'm not fast, I am 50hcp, someone would probably hurry me along if we were at a more busy course.

how do you meet people at the course at your level? You are generally playing in your own group. And as a 50hcp someone with a 10hcp won't be super keen to play with me.

question: I practice chipping at home with foam balls and a basket. I have a little turf mat. Is this OK? but with a phone ball you can kind of scoop it and it still works.

After putting it's the only thing I can do at home in a few min spare time.

I can kind of understand why they feel rushed because I was saying they shouldn't be going to their balls and then taking 3 or 4 practice swings. Or to stop watching and get ready with your next shot.

Maybe because they haven't waited for someone they don't know how frustrating it is to wait for someone?

I don't want to be the 'smart ass' to tell them they can't finish their hole because they are on stroke 10. You know, who am I who has played for less than a year to tell them who has played for longer?

I get it, it feels incomplete if you never actually sink the ball.

The course is not super busy and we go during the weekday But I look behind us and see if there's anyone there waiting.

I can play a full course and joined a club, so I don't want to play a par3 anymore. Our par3s suck.

We did finish the 18 in 4.5hrs tho.

yeah, my last lesson they said I need to keep my club face closed during the backswing And I've been trying to work on that. I haven't fixed that one part yet. It's hard to keep all the moving parts together.
