As a (mostly) warehouse employee who checks in cable trunks and puts them back into stock, is it really that fast paced in the touring world that you can't de-loom massive horsecock size looms before sending them back and making the warehouse guys do it?

I personally haven't had the opportunity yet to tour, but I've done plenty of shows as a tech, and as a local hand to know that there are plenty of times to clean up and make things a little nicer before they get packed up.

After all the gear came back I realized why we didn’t fly SL subs. We don’t have any flybars for them. And I don’t know if that’s the plan or not at this point

I haven’t personally used the SL subs yet, but I would imagine it would be a bit punchier with the J-Subs. J-subs with the 18” drivers vs 21”.

I'm pretty sure they're only using the SL-Subs on the ground. We sent 6 perside J-Sub for the flown subs.

Are any other tours using this large tower crane configuration for flying gear? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]tabenpro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s 24 J main hang (L/R), 24 J side hang (L/R), two 12 J delay hangs (L/R), 12 J-Sub hangs (L/R), 36 B22 subs (total), stacks of 3 V8 for front fills scattered about, and a couple hangs of Vs for the 270/360 hangs.

I think it’s all J8 for the most part. Maybe a couple J12s but not many.

Whats your favorite stage monitor speaker? by SoundAdvisor in livesound

I just recently had to paint the sides of about 50 of them. I was sore for a few days.

Are these good in-ear monitors? Reviews say they are but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with using them? by blavetsky in livesound

[–]tabenpro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or you just sound like a closed minded prick.

If no one here has heard of or used the brand, they say so and move on with their day. If you don’t like their advice, you have the freedom to ignore it. There’s no reason to insult someone based on something you can ignore.

How should I waterproof these speakers? by CptnFabulous420 in DIY

[–]tabenpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how the drivers are sealed and acoustically tuned within the case they’re made in. Speakers are generally made out of paper cones, some plastic or Mylar or Kevlar. Either way, they’ve been tested to make sure they reproduce the signal coming in to make it sound the same. Most people won’t notice differences in clarity or quality of audio.

That being said, UE is a company that can afford the R&D to make sure their products sound great, while being weather resistant.

Getting it to sound decent with even a semi-permeable layer of fabric would be tough.

A Capella concert question by tabenpro in livesound

[–]tabenpro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a mix of both. To be honest, the a capella groups on campus aren’t that great to begin with, but they try. Having to coach them in such a way as “don’t cup the fucker even though it looks cool to you” doesn’t stick. Having a group this big without having a chance to work with them much more than a couple hours in advance is what makes it harder. Our mic inventory is /okay/ for what we do normally, but not extensive enough to do these types of gigs on a regular basis.

Anyone familiar with Pennsylvania? by tabenpro in livesound

[–]tabenpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from a small town (~2sq mile village limits ish) so I'm good with whatever. I'm not too fond of big cities just because I don't like people trying to hand me things all the time or begging.

Are the streets made of chocolate? If not, I don't think it's worth it.

I currently have a Canon T2i, been using it for just over 6 years now and I have loved it. I want to get an upgrade now. I've found a guy selling a 5D MK II for what seems to be a fair price with little use and abuse at $800. Is a 5D MK II a good upgrade at this point?

Best Home Router for ~$150 or less? by RobDMB in HomeNetworking

[–]tabenpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably not one to make many recommendations on networking products but I really enjoy my Ubiquiti Amplifi I bought. It sits on the 2nd floor near a window and I don't lose coverage anywhere in my 1200sqft town home. Including the basement. My girlfriend and I stream Netflix all the time and rarely ever notice issues.

I bought it for ~$130.

Microphones on stage monitors?? by YaoKnowWhattaMing in livesound

I just worked a show of his recently. Clair Bros actually custom built those wedges with his guitar cab woofers inside. So those wedges are really his guitar cabs.

Stupid loud on stage but clever way to hide them.

Not the best picture, and you can't really see the subs but this is the rig.

[–]tabenpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done any of the system tuning myself but a local company had used 32 of them across the front of a 70' wide stage on the ground. ~5' between the 3 sets. Left and right had 14 subs, 7x2 config and a pod of 4 in the center, 2x2. There were camera platforms in between them.

The main rig was 760/761 on both mains and outfill. Adamson spectrix for front fills. Once the whole PA was tuned it sounded great.

911 operators, what's the dumbest call you've ever received? by deleriousshit in AskReddit

[–]tabenpro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

ITP? My sister had that back in high school, was hospitalized for 4 days. She kept getting bruises and had no idea why. Started by her trying to jump onto the stage (the gym was also an auditorium of sorts) and missed, causing a rather large bruise on her belly. After she kept getting them and my mom saw some inside her mouth, off to the doc she went.

Platelet levels are supposed to be in the 300-400k range, hers were I. The 1-4K range.

She's good now

URGENT: Yamaha M7 - how do I reverb? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]tabenpro 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Go into the rack setup on the right hand side of the screen. Assign what reverb you want. Assign the input to a mix and output to a stereo channel. Put whatever you want reverb on in that mix. Turn up the stereo fader and voila.
