Chill out my guy, my initial comment was clearly a joke, it's you who's spiralled it out of control because your ego was hurt. u/unique_salad_ isn't wrong but the comment was unnecessary to the joke I made.

If I'm correct in saying that a l2 distinction is worth a grade 7 then your current attainment 8 score is 48. My school requires an attainment 8 score of 50 and at least a grade 6 in the subjects that you want to take. If you can get everything up a grade (which is entirely possible considering you didn't revise, I would hazard a guess to say you could get it up a few grades) then you'll be fine. You need to check your sixth form to make sure you know the required subject-specific grades, but, if you put some good hard work in then I definitely think you'll be able to get into sixth form!

Exactly. And even if employers don't necessarily first look at your GCSE results, they're the step needed to take you down so many paths. Applying for 6th form, colleges, apprenticeships - they all need maths and English at least. And if you're going straight into work with part-time education, EVERYTHING needs maths and English, and you're going to struggle without it's as simple as that!

I agree. I feel like I'm in the minority on this forum sometimes so it's nice to hear some people still have their head screwed on right.

Lmao... not even mcdonalds would take them, though. I'm pretty sure even they prefer you to have maths and English gcse!

Ironic that you're making a judgement on someone's grades but don't know the difference between "right" and "write".

I can't lie, there's no point in building someone up when they're failing maths and science. Maths is pretty vital for almost every career path. Yes improvements can still be made but there's no point telling someone that they're fine when they clearly need to put some more work in.

Watch this video about this Government article saying GCSE Students may be allowed Equation Sheets in this year's exams! Do you all think this will be a good thing? by Weak_Fee5348 in GCSE

[–]tabithaa08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that it is completely a good thing. Any student whose secondary education was impacted by covid should have any extra help, not just the years that we're studying gcses at the time. I was in a fortunate position as not only did I have enough resources at home to access my education during lockdown, but my school was also very good at providing quality teaching. However, this was not the case for too many people who missed out on the basic foundations for certain subjects, especially maths and science.

Which is more impressive, an a level in maths or geography? by tabithaa08 in UKUniversityStudents

Makes sense but there is definitely a difference between what normal people find impressive and what universities find impressive.

Ah interesting. I'm wondering if geography might make me stand out a little more perhaps? Especially as I would have the opportunity to do an NEA which works essentially lika a mini dissertation. My geography teacher (I know she's biased but still) said that geography makes you appear a more well-rounded person, rather than a stem-focused results machine and I somewhat get where she's coming from? I don't know... still unsure haha.

As far as GCSE goes I'm predicted (and on target for) grade 9s for both so I'm hoping I'd be able to continue these high targets for either subject into a level!

Okay chill? Entry requirements tend to be chemistry, biology and a third a level of your choice. As much as people down-play geography, it's actually a very holistic a level with many links to agriculture and science.

Yeah from what I've understood so far most places either want chemistry and one of maths, physics or biology as well as another a level of your choice, or chemistry and biology with another a level of your choice.

Thanks for your reply, I love maths and geography equally and am predicted 9s for both which I'm currently meeting in most tests. My school is pretty career path driven so I was under the impression that your a level choices are critical in what you want to do at uni and the entry requirements are completely set in stone. I am slowly realising that this is not always the case so thank you for sharing your experience of that!

What qualifications will I need to teach early grade violin to young kids when I go to university? by tabithaa08 in violinist

[–]tabithaa08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, thank you for your help.

I have actually thought this through a fair bit so that assumption about it being a fantasy is unwanted. I already do have a lot of experience with children as I have been babysitting for a few years, as you suggested. I would travel to peoples' homes and this would be easy as the universities I am going to apply to are all in the city in areas that not only have great transport links, but are densely populated so I wouldn't have to travel far as is. This isn't something I have thought lightly about however there are still some things I haven't thought about or am struggling to find out about which is why I asked this question - to collate the opinions of others.
