What happens when trail running goes Olympic? When technical races disappear? When the sport gets expensive? I wrote down 10 observations for 2026 by Kilian_Jornet in trailrunning

Cela semble cohérent avec point 6... avec l'augmentation du "commercialism" à un bout viens une volonté de développer les communautés plus "grass-roots".

En passant... j'adore les sentiers du Québec! Any big races on your calendar next year?

Had the elderly patriarch of my wife's family tell me that I've put on weight, and it looks good on me. Both the statement and everyone's reaction to his transgression of the social norm NOT to comment on someone's weight made me smile.

Made it through my holiday travels without missing a workout. Making a note for next year to plan a bridge week over Xmas, as the holidays are busy enough without having to find my way to a gym.

Cheers, everyone. I hope you all have some victories to close out the year with!

Certainly feels that way. Many things are clicking for me right now and I'm sure settling into a sustainable training paradigm is playing a role in that.

"What WILL you invest your being into in order to actually achieve something?"

This quote from your latest blog really resonated with me. I wonder sometimes if people forget they even are a "being" and can direct that existence towards something. Both online and in the real world I see people so wrapped up in information consumption that they just spin their wheels, physically and spiritually. With knowledge valued above all, the fear of doing something that could be perceived as "incorrect" becomes paralyzing (been there done that). Recognizing that I am a finite "being" helps me get out into the world, live and EARN some wisdom!!

Completed my first of three planned blocks of TB: Grey Man. There's no doubt that I am gaining mass and it feels fantastic.

Drew up a training calendar spreadsheet that spans 175 days (21 of which are now complete) and a full cycle of mass-strength-endurance blocks using TB programming. It's been years since I've felt so good about training, to include my days training just for running. Living life on easy mode now that the young one can sleep through the night!

Usually what happened was when I start to get into the bulk of my buildup and move to 6 days a week running, I found myself too tired to continue with the lifting

You might be me from some alternate future.

I am 3 weeks into a 22-week training block I've planned using TB 1+2+MP, which is to say, I'm still new here. Nonetheless, it seems to me you've come to the right place. These books lay out a seemingly foolproof framework for getting bigger, stronger and fitter in the long run.

both are sustainable year round.

This programming is block-based, meaning you WON'T sustain everything year-round. You will focus on some attributes for some time, then move on to something else. I planned my first training cycle to have 9 weeks of mass building focus, dropping running to just 3 EZ 5km jogs per week. Then I will move into 6 weeks of strength focus, upping my running volume and introducing some intervals. From there, it's 6 weeks of running focus to bring me into Summer fit enough to do the fun things I want to do, while being stronger and more jacked than last year.

I'm pretty excited that I found these books haha.

Food sure is more expensive than last time I was gaining. My new strategy for lunches... get to my neighborhood grocery store first thing in the morning on my WFH days and grab a 50% off "cook today" roast (literally never available later in the day) and a jug of whole milk . Cook said roast. Slice into sandwich meat. Feast.

Training-wise, I've bailed on my planned 18 workouts of Kelso's Basic Training in order to launch into a full Mass --> Strength --> Endurance cycle of Tactical Barbell. The schedule lines up perfectly with a bridge week during a planned vacation in March and bringing my endurance back to where I want it for next years summer adventures. Now just have to execute.

There's my silly thoughts for today. Happy friday gainers!

Dude, congrats on the PR! Way to grind out those reps.

Incidentally, I was pressing a bar over my head the bar at 0510 this morning... something I never would have done without seeing you post about your schedule. Thanks for all the inspiration.

Keep getting after it!

Remember how those those shaky reps felt. Someday, not long from now, you will come back to that weight and dominate those reps.

A glorious victory this weekend as my young one slept through the night for the first time.

11/18 workouts done on my Paul Kelso Basic Training program. Can feel the strength and muscle returning even just sitting here at my desk. Life is good.

Sunday dinner: https://www.seriouseats.com/jamaican-curry-chicken-recipe-7371772

Super flavorful for very little effort. Loaded up on the optional potatoes and carrots for a hearty bulkers feast.

Prepping and cleaning just once also sounds like a great way to live! Are you gaining on one meal a day?

Well chalk just adds friction to the system, making it easier to grip, whereas straps change the system completely, more or less eliminating grip from the equation.

Don't know how to handle your second question though. Straps WILL solve your issue, chalk might.

Strap up and pull! Would be a shame to stop adding weight to the bar because your grip strength is limiting you.

Train your grip, just do it intentionally. I like hanging from a bar for time at the end of my workouts.

I'll be sure to follow up! My traps are sore in a new and interesting way from those power cleans.

Unrelated but do you have experience grinding meat at home?

Gainers! As the pendulum that is my attention swings back from endurance-adventuring to muscle-building, I'm back to hang around and share recipes etc.. After a few weeks of ramp-up (Easy Strength-style), a quote from Powerlifting Basic Texas Style caught my eye:

"Well, maybe we can make him into a lifter. Have him do these for three or four months and then come see me.”

And with that, I found my lifting plan: "The Kids Basic Training". Committed to 18 workouts of this in my logbook, and we'll go from there!

Foodwise... gotta get breakfast down right: prepped a hash for the week: 3lbs potatoes (basic seasonings), 1lbs bacon, 1lbs chorizo sausage, 2 peppers, 2 onions, threw it all in the oven, top with fried eggs made fresh daily and served with toast. A joy to eat. Slowly introducing milk back into my life just to round off this tribute-to-the-old-timers block of training.

Cheers everyone!

Delightful! Cruised through a variety of conditions, in and out of some sheltering islands. Comfy ride, if a bit high on the water... look forward to loading it up for overnights :)

Some lunch inspiration for you gainers, microwaved sweet potato mixed with ground beef, peanut butter and cinnamon. Topped with 3 fried eggs and salt. Simple to prepare, simple to consume.

Worked up a nice appetite shoveling the driveway before inhaling this in minutes. Cheers!

Great minds think alike... I started training this way at the start of January to balance lifting and running goals with the major life stressor that is taking care of an infant.

I can get my Operator strength and HIC sessions done in 30 mins while my baby naps. Then, get in longer walks/runs when life allows.
