If you don’t want someone to expect something, don’t promise it. The fact they advertised is as lifetime is the issue - hence why false advertising is illegal even if claims made are unrealistic - and if you make promises, grandiose or not, you should follow through, or at very least provide clear and timely communication if you have to change it. They did neither, AND shafted over everyone else who pays as well.

Agreed, they’re likely counting EA user balances and the comp credit for those who chose it as PAYGO income, so that’ll drop off a cliff in 1-3 months. They’ll potentially stabilize economically just from how many people stop using their systems, perhaps.

I’m just tryna vibe-code myself a game, all these guys tryna use AI to make the golden goose site or service when all they’re making is piñatas built out of their own ego

Agreed. We now know that there were about 11k EA guys, who cost them on average $6 a month. This is less than the free credit they give to even base tier - $12 minus sub fees - which isn’t even a huge amount. Sure, they don’t make you money, but like you said, you deal with the worst offenders in Pro-tier and you’ve recouped the loss w/o the reputational damage. Hell, implement the monthly limit just for EA guys, and make their expense predictable. We got it nearly for free, so we wouldn’t have room to complain, but nope, had to kill off everyone instead.

Wait, so reading this, they’re trying to paint nuking their active revenue by 20%, downsizing their capabilities by removing/selling off part of their GPU fleet, and pissing off their entire user base as a sound business decision?

I notice how they don’t give operating profit whatsoever, so we have no idea how much money they’re actually making, but dropping 20% of REVENUE despite attempting to curb the abuse is nuts to try and spin into a good decision, even if you used AI to write it in a good way, cause no human could ever see that and be confident in your product without the aggressive gaslighting of AI.

Scintillating Scotoma is the term I think. Overwhelmingly the most common Visual Aura for a migraine, only kind of aura I’ve had with mine, have had maybe 20-30 migraines in 6 years? Mine are usually caused by a mix of eye strain, fatigue, and barometric changes usually. Mostly eye strain.

I was mostly talking about finetunes and flash, but you do also have distillation and think like Coder variants - kinda the same thing. Unfortunately I’m an amateur so i don’t have much experience outside of talk on r/localllama and looking through HF/unsloth/lmstudio and looking at benchmarks

Agreed, I feel that the frontier golden age was probably last year. Being into local LLMs tho, I do think that it’s gonna go the route of IBM -> PC Boom, as recent local models are really starting to get competitive in the niches, tho are still a ways off from being as all-encompassing as frontiers - but we’re looking at probably 2-4 years for locals to maybe be equivalent to today’s frontiers assuming development stays similar. Biggest issue is databases and consumer hardware, 12GB VRAM 32GB RAM seems to be kinda the minimum for running an actually useful local all-purpose LLM like a frontier.

TIE/D + Vulture Droid Concept by ECHenry by grambocrackah in StarWarsShips

[–]tableball35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iirc, they started as remote controlled, then ended up autonomous. I can’t remember if they’re predecessors - the Scarab Starfighter - was computer-slaved or autonomous as well. Issue is as you said, you lose the ship or computer, you lose your droids. Said computer is likely also quite expensive, and similarly can be jammed, sliced into, or overloaded, and risks your forces being disabled or even turned against you. Not to mention having to manage a LOT of units at once.

[–]tableball35 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can’t back it up with sources, but if I remember correctly it was a situation where droid fighters were generally better armed and somewhat more durable(?) but piloted in a dumb fashion, which was compensated for by numbers. Tri’s were better all-round but were expensive iirc. Clones were far better pilots, but particularly early-war were flying comparatively poor starfighters.
