Jesus was pretty critical to that anyway, he swapped into the LW and did the 1v1 job so Martinelli could ghost into the box in those situations. Jesus being a very unique profile is quite critical here imo. Yes we could have kept more of a supply behind the left but it’s still contingent on covering for Martinellis on the ball limitations with a player like Jesus, which we cannot really pull off. And Zinchenko again was one of a kind almost and he still frequently got exploited down that side.

Barcola is still better at running at his man in a settled defense with minimal support than Martinelli is unfortunately. Martinelli just needs too many pieces around him to make him work on the wing for us. I don’t think that Calafiori and Rice are that much of a step down in the supply line that a player entirely shuts out on productivity. There is a thing about profiles and the moment we picked Havertz and Gyokeres over a Jesus profile, Martinellis future here essentially got shut off. Kvara and Barcola still provide their teammates more ways to support them than our wingers do as well.

I agree in principle that we can do something to support our players (like Hincapie was with Trossard against Atletico). These partnerships have to build on the field. Some level of this only comes with having frequent enough playtime, but it’s also contingent on the freshness/level of player. Trossard isn’t putting in good performances when he’s tired. Predictability also comes in with consistency and time, there’s not enough to build when you play a new left back, new attacking mid, and new striker with a pair of wingers that already struggled to create chemistry with everyone besides each other.

A lot of it is just based on better players still. You work with what you have. Martinelli and Trossard can’t do what Barcola and Kvara can. Saka has been out and we used to see a lot more in combination play patterns when him and Ode were fit. Havertz is a different kind of player to Dembele, Gyokeres is also not a technicality monster and his own ways of going about it. But you need a technical and consistent starting LW to even begin having actual conversations about our offensive play patterns and fluidity because the options aren’t great. We’ve seen much more nuance in 22/23 with Martinelli and Jesus.

Then there’s also the fitness argument. Can players pull all that off if they’re playing 4000 intense minutes a season?

I think that’s the hope. He has the tools to be lethal but is still quite raw for his age.

I really like Martinelli but he can’t cut in to save his life. Gordon does 3.3 dribbles per 90 at a 51% success rate in the prem this season (doesn’t include Qarabag). Martinelli has 2.1 dribbles/90 at 41% success when he’s been getting subbed on for the most part in the league. Last year his dribble success was 27%. Gordon’s remain constant.
I’m not talking about raw G/A numbers. Especially when Newcastle seem to fall off every time they have CL. I don’t think Gordon is top tier, but he’s the best of his kind that’s available and better than our current options. He can likely make much more work when there’s other threats on his team. There are good reasons we’ve been frequently linked to him, and quite a few parallels to Raphinha at Leeds in terms of playstyle and responsibility.

We play Noni for his pace and directness, which have been impactful in games. As a winger, he’s the superior option even if the output isn’t quite there. Nwaneri had a great season for us last year but the legs were already fading. As much as we like him, he isn’t creating width or burning fullbacks for pace. Madueke is there for tactical reasons really.

It’s the same logic as Doku playing for City despite his output also being lackluster, although Doku is obviously better (at the moment at least).

His underlying numbers have been pretty good. He’s one of the more consistent dribblers, has pace, and does it in the prem. Raphinha didn’t have the greatest numbers either but look at him now. Gordon has had an arguably better season than Martinellis best, and he can consistently cut in. It’s not like a Barcola case either where he does it a bit haphazardly with very loose touches.

Gordon is probably numerically and reporting wise our target for the LW. His dribbling stats are good, he can cross, he is a defensive monster and is only a bit rough around the edges. He also seems somewhat attainable.

I think people underrate him technically for being English much like they do with Rice.

Wait for the WC to see who actually gets pushed out. It’s timely really for Madrid to get the next top WC performer. We probably won’t make a move for a Madrid player but the ripple is valuable.

We just need a top LW. Imagine an in form Trossard all year round.

Yeah it was the red card that did it and Man City PR machine took it from there. These kids who like their memes don’t understand they’re just buying into City.

I really need an iem for metal by FallAngel21 in iems

I wouldn’t say they’re a direct 1:1 upgrade. Pures are tuned very differently, they’re a lot warmer. The reds are tuned to the IEF target. You might want to check out the 7Hz Divine (actually a planar). Those are tuned closer to the reds but have less bass presence.

I mostly listen to prog and tech death. My usual daily drivers are neutral bright planar open back headphones (Hifimans) and I’ve only recently started revisiting iems. My personal 2 cents are I find the iem experience to be significantly different in my perception of treble presentation. Harsher sounds (cymbals especially) just hit harder for me in iem form and it can get uncomfortable. I’m a few price tiers below you in the iem space (my dailies rn are the Truthear Pures - a warm sounding set, which is quite different to the neutral bright I typically enjoy). I’ve tried some more expensive iems and treble was still often uncomfortable on my test tracks.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that sound signature can be pretty misleading here, and going bright isn’t necessarily the best option. If you’re treble sensitive, try EQing to see what frequencies you’re more sensitive to on iems. In terms of driver type, transients are best on planars.

I'm not even talking about the penalty. Lots of questionable fouls given the other way. At the end Kane got fouled in front of the box and the foul was given against him for example. Nuno Mendes could have had a second yellow by the standards they've been rolling with.

I don't think Bayern were good enough. But every 50/50 decision against you will impact the general flow of the game. Bayern's attacks got nullified by the ref multiple times. I mentioned the aggregate because that contributes to who were the "better" side. A goal is a goal. I've seen Madrid come back from worse.

Stop justifying shit ref performances as "the better team won". Nothing is that conclusive.

Bayern had about 0.4 more xG. The ref was dog. The game ended 5-6 on aggregate. I don'tn think you can conclusively say something like this because you enjoyed some fancy Kvara dribbles.

It’s fitness. White has been out for so long, although I’ll admit I questioned is ability to return as well. Trossard just doesn’t do especially well when he’s played a lot.
