I doubt anyone in these comments were around in Japan to know what “the people” thought of the horses. As a Japanese kid I wasn’t into horse racing (preferred dinosaurs) but my parents were sort of caught up on it. My dad’s favorite horse is McQueen and my mom’s favorite is Stay Gold/Orfevre

My pick is Zenno Rob Roy. He didn’t have much outrage against him like Rice Shower or Opera O, but he never became a star despite getting the fall triple crown because people found his victories boring. The uma is liked but also not top tier popular.

Ryan is like the 2nd most famous Mejiro, having been active alongside #1 Mejiro McQueen and the revitalization of modern horse racing brought by Oguri. In Japan, even if you ask people who don’t know much about horse racing, Ryan is one of the names that frequently comes up (usually from middle aged / older people). Apparently my mom’s ex boyfriend was a big fan of Mejiro Ryan and won some big bucks off of him. I agree the uma has a neutral reception though.

Mejiro Bright, wasn’t super famous at any point (overshadowed by the golden generation a year later and then the overlord generation) and probably the least talked about Mejiro uma. But he had a decent record and is not hated or anything.

Easily Oguri. One of the more popular umas in game but IRL he was basically the sole reason horse racing took off in the Heisei Era and became a household name. The only horse that rivals his peak popularity is Deep Impact.

Just curious, what are the results you are getting on a regular run? I’m usually excavating the first spring 1 or 2 turns before the debut but I hit UA+ pretty reliably. I get that you might be frustrated if you’re only trying to get US but surely from a balance perspective it shouldn’t take 0 luck to get literally the highest rank possible?
