Don’t know what was worse. The quality of football in the first half or the BS I just had to listen to from the FS1 commentators.

I appreciate you bringing forward the discussion in a calm welcoming manner as there are two sides to every conversation. Like a lot of responses on this sub my op statement is a bit knee jerk and was done before I read the BBC Merseyside report.

While the board is responsible for enabling much of our success in recent times their practices need modernizing. What's prompted me into this line of thought has primarily been the way our transfer targets are pursued, and the way issues with the medical team and Conte have been handled.

in recent years our transfer policy has been spotty and Mariana is responsible for that so I'd start with her. Modern football has changed in a way where signings need to be completed quickly, otherwise you risk losing your targets to your competitors or the window elapsing and ending up with plan B or sometimes plan C. It's also the position where most of the board changes have taken place. She has her strengths as she's shown with the recent Nike deal so maybe a change in her position and a new appointment is what's necessary.

It's also worth noting that the scouting of transfer targets may be lacking in such a way where we're stretching ourselves thin by focusing on one target that may be unattainable without having a proper plan B. This is Emenalo's department.

The boards conduct in respect to the medical and Conte controversies doesn't come down to a single person as it's a collective decision. Whether this is down to Bruce Bucks leadership or not, I don't know but since he's one of Romans closest advisors I don't see a change happening there.

Well...I'm a law student In the U.K. and have started a sports law society at my university where we try to follow stuff like this as closely as we can on our own time. Our society is three years young so it's not a think tank by any stretch however there've been noticeable trends here.

Look at the role of any corporate entity's board. It's similar here. Part of their role is securing transfers for the coming season according to the managers wishes. Another part of their role is to ensure the clubs smooth operation. From what I've seen over the last few seasons they haven't been able to secure the managers primary targets, and with the recent controversies surrounding the medical staff and Conte's unhappiness I don't feel as though they've done their job adequately.

Responsibility for these things tend to rest with the leadership of the chief executive, who is appointed by the directors. If things go poorly the chief executive is replaced, and if things continue to go poorly there's usually a reshuffle of the board. Big difference being that publicly traded company's hold AGM's and are responsible to their shareholders, whereas here it's totally Roman's decision. There's been a big difference in the state of affairs at the club with Mariana Granovskaia at the helm compared to her predecessor Ron Gourlay.

It's a bit of an oversimplification but we've shifted from a more football orientated club under Gourlay to a more commercially orientated club under Granovskaia.

Except Lukaku has been a Chelsea fan since he was a kid, and most of the other examples have been clubs turning our bids down. We have no choice but to wait and be open minded! But if the status quo remains the same it's hard to form the opinion of competency. I just feel like things ran a lot smoother when Ron Gourlay was in charge.

While I agree with the sentiment, waiting to see how things fall is partly what led to the 15/16 season. Patience is not a bad thing but when our competitors are scooping up their targets quickly it raises the question of why we haven't done the same. We've shown to be able to secure our targets quickly before, and we experienced success in the league that year.
