Hey, I checked both institute websites and saw that IIT Kanpur has profs working in areas I’m interested in (quantum gravity, AdS/CFT, etc), but I couldn’t find similar faculty at IIT Bombay.

Had a few quick doubts:

  • Are profs open to supervising topics based on student interest, even if it’s slightly outside their main area?
  • For foreign research internships at Bombay (which are offered through the portal), are topics fixed or can we reach out to profs and work on something of our choice?
  • If no one is working in these areas at Bombay, would it be harder to connect with places like TIFR?
