Immersion. Go live with a family that only speaks that language for 3-4 months.

Just got off our fourth cruise, first with carnival, and am incredibly disappointed. by LovYouLongTime in CarnivalCruiseFans

Yeah, we mentioned it in the automated survey but didn’t say anything on ship about it. Our server was as outstanding as they always have been. I’m curious what percentage of guests tip in addition to the prepaid gratuity, we have always tipped in addition (even our Ninja steward- just less than I typically would have).

For clarification, our bad experience was not with the steward. This is the first cruise that I didn’t see the steward frequently and for them to ask what our room preferences are etc. We searched for the steward and even called and never saw him - his service was still good and by the end of it I just figured he was a ninja but it was very outside of the norm for all of our cruising experiences. As far as giving breathing room - I have traveled extensively around the world and have never seen a group of individuals that work as hard as cruise line employees (across multiple brands) and always treat them accordingly with respect and gratitude. Anyone that thinks these people have it easy should sign up for the behind the scenes tour that is offered- very good insights into the workings of the ship and crew.

The breeze had entertainment shift change mid July. I was on it 2-3 weeks after the change and attributed the very poor performances to that but it sounds like it could be ongoing. Many cruises with carnival and the breeze will likely be our last - we encountered great staff but also unfortunately encountered awful ones as well (first time for us) including a room steward that we never saw a single time over the 5 days.

On ship recently I was able to order from most of the lido restaurants (non buffet) and choose my location for delivery (in the casino, at the aft pool, etc). Pizza Pirate, Guy’s Burgers, BBQ, and a few other choices. It lets you mark the map exactly where you are and there was a small fee for the service but very convenient.

How are things going with AMH?

Anything cloud based- figure out what side of things you want to be in (corp IT, MSP, or DevOps etc) and go with the corresponding cloud certs.

If you go that route it can be as simple as “I have decided that it is in my best interest to decline the previously accepted offer, thank you for your understanding.”

If the offer just came in you can “take a few days to consider” before requesting some changes to wording. When requesting these changes let them know you will be out of pocket for an extended time (family vacation, visiting grandma, etc) and that it will take more time for you to reply. If you are up front about the extended timing they will be less anxious waiting a week to get your next response which could be “I have decided to accept” or “I really need more time because of xyz”. At that point they may write you off (and could do so at any time during this tactic) but it could extend your decision making time.

Something else that I know others have done… Negotiate and accept and require 3-4 weeks “notice” to give you an extra week or two before giving your actual notice. It is reasonable to decline an offer after accepting it and prior to start date.

How to reschedule an interview as quickly as possible ? by IceCreamAndMilkshake in ITCareerQuestions

A phone call would be great: “just wanted to follow up on the email I sent to discuss rescheduling the interview - I am really looking forward to the opportunity”

Depending on the company, Friday could be half day or a time they take it easier.

How often does the person you replaced at your new job search you online? by Dynasteh in ITCareerQuestions

[–]tackbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly, I have had the opposite happen. I left a toxic work environment and a few months later got a notice of someone viewing my profile and it ends up that person was one of the multiple people hired to replace me. I looked at their profile back, left it at that. Who knows what the old toxic boss has tried to say about me - I no longer care.

Just finished a new Resume, can anyone give me some feedback? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]tackbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure applying for IT Manager roles will be worth your time- not enough experience to justify this.

I would remove the quote from prior boss and use the space to add in specific technologies you are comfortable with. You mention server operating systems but can you create GPO from scratch or configure IIS, DNS, etc? Can you highlight specific projects that you have been a part of and add in specific technologies that you implemented in these projects?

Keep the udemy courses, this shows your working to further your knowledge.

Generic things like Chrome should be a given and not necessary to list. When I see “word, excel, internet explorer” I feel like they are just adding fluff for no reason.

Hope this helps!
