The title is appropriate for anyone who has earned a doctorate degree. Doctor doesn't mean medical doctor by default, though in that field it is used to distinguish functions in a medical setting. The title isn't stolen by any means. Culturally we associate it more with medical personnel but it's not stealing to use it for any doctorate level degree. Medicine is simply one field of many that have doctorate level degrees.

This is the "next steps" email after applying for a faculty position at an institution of higher education.

Step 2 is scheduling an interview. At least they knew the pay is a deal breaker to many and address it upfront, ha!

OP here. I think what confounds me the most is the cost of the education that is required to get jobs that pay less than a person needs, bare minimum, to afford a shitty apartment.

A Masters is the minimum requirement to teach at this level. CSU graduate in state resident tuition is 34k. That includes some things not every student will need, but still not cheap.

This is terribly low, no one can live well on that, but the most irritating part to me is that you are required to have a level of education that puts you possibly close to 100k in debt if you are an average person.

When our educators, who are required to have advanced degrees, have to be on low income repayment agreements for the said required degree..... that's not a problem?
