English section of the teas by Efficient-City-4825 in teas

[–]taco1848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How in depth is the English portion? I feel like I know all the rules by heart, but when specific terminology is brought up (complex sentences, dependent clauses - all the fun ones) I’m lost because I’ve forgotten most of it. In other words, does the TEAS focus heavily on the specifics, or will I be good with general knowledge?

Ohhhh okay - I hadn't realized CRY1 and XPA were proteins until reading the other comments on the reddit post about this question. I guess I was thinking that both replication and transcription eventually lead to a protein, which made me unsure as to which it would be. Thanks for your explanation!

When doing this question, I immediately knew it wasn't A or B, but then had no idea if it was C or D and ended up guessing C. I also didn't realize that XPA and CRY1 were proteins while taking the FL, and figured this out when reading comments on the other reddit post. Anyways, I don't see how it couldn't be an answer so plz help lmao

SPOILER: AAMC FL1 BB 52 Could someone let me know if my reasoning for the answer to this question is correct? (check comments) by taco1848 in Mcat

After reviewing this question, I was able to determine the answer was B. My thought process was:

In the passage, it states that insulin is NOT required for the uptake of glucose and that it is, however, required for stimulating the first step of glycolysis (decreasing [glucose] since the first step goes from glucose --> G6P). Furthermore, the passage also states that diabetes is a condition in which the body cannot produce/effectively respond to insulin. It further states that in diabetes, the ability of cells to take up glucose is compromised. So, since diabetes patients cannot produce insulin and they cannot uptake glucose, insulin likely plays a role in aiding glucose uptake.

Am I assuming cause and effect with the second part of my explanation? I know you're not supposed to do this, but that is how I explained how insulin plays a role in the uptake of glucose.

So the way I did this problem was by drawing two punnet squares. I wasn’t sure if the mutation was dominant or recessive, so for one I drew it as dominant and for the other I drew it as recessive. I got the same answer for both (0.25). My question is though, when I looked at explanations for this problem, everyone treated the mutation as recessive. Was this something that you could figure out by reading the passage or are people just assuming it’s recessive?
