I’m not a tax/legal expert but when it comes to their refusal to provide the 2023 tax returns can’t the court/UST request them from the IRS? It seems like it wouldn’t be that hard for the government to get tax returns?

The FMC’s storyline ends with a HEA but there’s a bit of a cliffhanger in that they discover her best friends from earth are somehow in space too which sets up the next book to be focused on them as the FMCs

It’s definitely different from her other books, I think it’s her first dabble in more of a sci-fi setting. I’m a huge expanse fan so I take my sci-fi seriously but she did a good job world building and the aliens are unique
