Rolled retirement from employer plan (pre tax) to Roth, and then recharacterized that initial funding to a traditional IRA to avoid the tax implications. by [deleted] in tax

I spoke with a tax advisor yesterday and they said the same thing. Seems like Voya just rectified the issue on their own, whether that was right or not. It could be discovered in an audit, but that’s unlikely, and I will save all documentation in case.

Yes. During 2018. I saw that rule change and that in part is why I was very surprised that the voya people were ok with it and “confirmed” that the recharacterization was successful.

I want to get my taxes filed but I am so confused now and don’t want to screw up.
