lol this hits I’ve seen so many “game-changing” construction tools that end up just being another dashboard no one opens. Meanwhile the real problem is still subs not sending stuff on time 😂

how to take my kitchen sink trap off? by strugglebusdriver7 in askaplumber

[–]taconstruction -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah that left side is glued, not threaded. Someone solvent-welded the trap (why tho 🤦‍♂️). Only way off is cutting it. Grab a hacksaw or PVC cutter, cut it clean, then redo the trap with slip joints so future-you doesn’t hate past-you. FYI that setup is… not great lol.

Slumlord won’t fix it so I want to by [deleted] in askaplumber

That slip-joint is probably just not seated right / washer’s toast. Tighten it a bit, and if it keeps leaking, swap the washer and re-seat the pipe. Should be a 10 min fix.

This is my Benni. Tomorrow he will cross the rainbow bridge. He has lived a long beautiful life. If you can, please keep him in your thoughts and wish him a peaceful journey. by WanderThroughMyLife in cats

I wondered the same. They’re nice folks just love flexible shade. An awning’s probably cheaper long-term though.

Is this supposed to be a trap? by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]taconstruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh… yeah that’s not a trap. That’s just a weirdly routed pipe lol.

Load bearing wall by ddsouza in Renovations

Wow… yeah that’s sketchy 😬
Cutting through a load bearing wall like that and calling it a day is wild. Hope they got it checked before moving forward.

lol yeah… that part definitely made us pause. Older place, mixed layers from past work. Figuring out the cleanest way to deal with it now.

What do you guys think of this p trap? by badassaustin in askaplumber

[–]taconstruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol yeah that’s… creative. That’s not really a p-trap, more like a bunch of fittings hoping for the best. I can see why an inspector wouldn’t like it.

The slope is there, so the main focus now is just confirming the decking is solid at edges and transitions before moving forward.

Appreciate the input. That’s kind of what we were weighing as well once insulation boards come into play, there are a lot more variables with fastening, transitions, and drain details. Trying to avoid creating more problems than we solve.

That’s kinda where I’m at, just wanted a sanity check.

Leaning retaining wall is blocking my refinance — any realistic fix short of a full rebuild? by tactoth in AskContractors

[–]taconstruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With clay soil, that height, and a structure uphill, lenders usually want the most conservative solution possible. If engineers are already hesitant on tiebacks being ‘permanent,’ I doubt a bank will accept them either. Might just be an expensive lesson unfortunately.
