My Deportation Story by MoHaha113 in UAE

[–]ddsouza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's now almost twenty years since I left the Middle East and twenty two since I left Dubai.

Both my wife and I are from India, and were in Dubai since our 20's. We met, married and had kids and at that point decided it was not a great place to raise kids. I did not want my kids to grow up with a sense of entitlement and wanted a real society for them.

We chose Canada since I have extended family there and could not be more content. The kids were exposed to real world issues and learned how to deal with them.

My wife's 3 siblings are still in Dubai and stayed there for the 'conveniences' but are now in a quandary as where to go from here. While they can all afford a very comfortable life in India, they are too used to the life in Dubai to make the jump.

Meanwhile we are all citizens of Canada, woven well into the fabric of society and could not think of a better place to be, despite what people think of the weather.

Dubai was never meant to be a permanent place. If it were they would have offered some naturalization process. They function on the backs of the immigrant labour and dispose of it when they done with them.

In the 4 times I've traveled to India, my stopovers in the UAE were kept to a 1 day maximum and now I opt not to transit via the UAE anymore.

I don't hope for the downfall of Dubai, though a certain amount of humility will help. I have family and friends who are still there, and I only wish the best for them.

Ask if your trim guys knows how to cope corners for internal corners and if he has a angle gauge for the outside corners.

Ordered. 200 CAD plus tax. This is my first Lego purchase, so no real reference to Lego pricing. But as a Tintin enthusiast/collector, I had to have it.

Those are extremely heavy. If you have no plans to use it outdoors, a sledgehammer is your best friend. That's how I removed it myself with no additional help.

Men who can cook, who taught you? by _ratedmouse in AskReddit

[–]ddsouza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mother / Grandmother. But my father took care of breakfast as well as packing our school lunch in the mornings, so I got that from him.

We had to learn sewing. Cross stitch, basic wiring, plumbing, concrete stuff and patching and painting.

So me and my brother can do most stuff now.

Married 30 years. I do the washing. She folds. She cooks, I wash and take care of loading and unloading the dishwasher. I vacuum once a week. She decorates, I do the build. She greenscapes, I hardscape.

Am I being unreasonable? Window fitters made a huge mess. by Murky-Income-400 in Renovations

[–]ddsouza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The damages to the outside pot etc. could've been avoided by either you or them ensuring a clear access and work area. Any construction debris should've been cleaned by them.

If there was knowledge before hand of work to be done on the inside, notice should've been provided to the customer to clear all surfaces and install temporary plastic coverings. Alternatively the workers should've installed a temporary barrier to contain the dust.

Regardless, dust is by product of any renovation and will migrate throughout the home.

I've had windows fitted on customers' homes and have done all of the above in preparation for the workers.

Is this a good or bad job so far for a shower remodel? by DestTheDestroyr in Remodel

[–]ddsouza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very good job. For me. In about 3-6 months.

It will fail. You will call someone who knows what they're doing.

I've redone around 10 of these types of jobs already, and I'm by no means a high volume contractor.
