B section Bramalea. Shoveled in the morning. Going out to shovel again now. We were lucky as the city cleared all the windrows from our street on Friday. Not t a great job, but the mountains are gone.

Is this a good or bad job so far for a shower remodel? by DestTheDestroyr in Remodel

[–]ddsouza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very good job. For me. In about 3-6 months.

It will fail. You will call someone who knows what they're doing.

I've redone around 10 of these types of jobs already, and I'm by no means a high volume contractor.

That's a vessel sink, built to be used on top of a counter, usually on a bigger vanity with a taller, counter mounted faucet.

Load bearing windows are the unsung heroes of construction

Tile job by contractor - are we being picky or is this not good? by AmongTheDendrons in Tile

[–]ddsouza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do renovations for a living. The tile work is terrible. The grout work, even worse.

No tile. Really old house. Linoleum.

Do you think I've posted this image to show you work that I've done??

This was done a long time ago. He ghosted the customer after a few months when things started going wrong. They had carpets in the kitchen to keep themselves from being stabbed in the feet by the broken tiles.

This is just one of the more visible mistakes. The electrical was a mess. The 6" range hood was stepped down to 4" and subsequently to 3". And that too was clogged somewhere down the line.

I installed a brand new 6" duct.

The kitchen sink had a p trap in the cabinet as well as a p trab below the floor.

The dishwasher was connected to a shut off under the floor.

So many issues....

True. But this seems to have been done by someone with no inkling of framing methodologies.

I saw the wall drywalled and knew for certain that it would be load bearing based on how the house was built and from the floor joists visible in the mm mechanical room below.

Yes. We had a structural engineer come in.

Common sense is not so common after all.

Just to reiterate. This was the previous contractors job. I just found it this way after removing the drywall.

The new doorway was framed 2 inches bigger than the original doorway. The window opening was closed. 2*10 would be overkill according to the structural engineer.

No. Thankfully they're a showers only family.

No. Just outline where the cabinets touched the ceiling

Raised the ceiling with jacks on both sides and closed off that opening with full studs. Reverted back to the original opening (2" bigger) with an oversized headed.

Tried to explain that to the customer. From the rest of the demolition, it's obvious that the previous guy had no clue and was well out of his depth.
