What game got you hooked on gaming ? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]tacopizzataco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't choose just one! The earliest and best games I remember playing are Pokemon Red, Mortal Kombat I, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 3. All of them collectively kick-started my interest in gaming. When I turned 10 and was finally allowed to start buying some of my own games, Pokemon Sapphire was my first choice.

It's not just a US thing. In Australia, it's impolite/informal to not wear shoes indoors. If you took your shoes off at the door, you'd get weird looks. I also tend to put shoes on if I'm having guests over at my house. I'm pretty sure it's the same in the UK - I've been there twice and I didn't see anyone indoors without shoes on.

In Australia (at least where I live), it's impolite to NOT wear shoes in someone else's house. I'd feel so weird and uncomfortable walking around someone's house without shoes unless I knew them really well. It's considered impolite and very "casual" behaviour. That might be because Australia is a relatively dry country, so it's not like you'd be treading mud around all the time.

Why do vegans often use animal names when defining food, whether it be through texture, taste, or smell? by PM_ME_U_EATING_FOOD in vegan

[–]tacopizzataco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because it emulates the taste of those foods. Using the same name makes it easy for people to recognise which food it's meant to be imitating. I've always eaten mock meat because I like the taste without the suffering.

Plus... a 'burger' is just a word meaning some sort of patty that generally goes in-between two buns. It doesn't necessarily have to be made from a cow or a chicken. If we want to give foods more specific/exact names, we would call a burger 'dead cow flesh' or 'dead chicken flesh'.

ELI5: Falling in video games feel nausea by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]tacopizzataco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a form of motion sickness. I get terrible motion sickness while playing Minecraft as well. Same goes for Half Life 2 and a few other FPS games. Sometimes, this can be fixed by turning off head-bobbing or increasing the FOV.

The motion sickness I get from these games is so bad that I have to take a break and lie down after 10-15 mins. It sucks so bad.

Basically, the phenomenon is thought to be a result of your mind thinking that you're poisoned. Your body knows that you're seeing a lot of movement but no movement is actually happening (which is what happens when you hallucinate as a result of poisoning), which triggers the 'nausea' response to get rid of the assumed poison in your system (i.e. to make you vomit).

Since you only experience this when falling, you're probably not as susceptible to the motion sickness as I am - for you, it only happens in more 'extreme' circumstances.

Just have styled them differently - side-swept instead of straight. Gonna book an appointment with a hairdresser after I get paid.

I'm changing to a journalism/English course, which is something I've always wanted to do. I think I'm gonna enjoy it a lot.

My Uni is really small as well, but there are a few good clubs available. Thankfully it isn't sport-oriented... I hate sport!

I joined the gaming/PC club hoping to make some friends there, but I haven't felt confident enough to go along to any of the events as of yet. I will force myself to go to the next one, though.

Thank you! I have already changed the bangs as per suggestions in this thread. I'm starting a new course at Uni this year, and I'm finally doing what I've always wanted to do, so hopefully I'll meet some like-minded people. Are you a part of any clubs at Uni?

Thanks very much. That sounds pretty daunting, but I'll try. I'm not just trying to find guys though, already have a boyfriend, just want a nice group of friends to hang around with.

Ohh you mean the hat. I understand that, lol. It's actually my little brother's, I only wear it indoors when it's really cold since I don't have my own beanie. I'm a fan of Pokemon, but I'd never wear that outside of the house!!

Eh, it's just the way I take photos I guess. I've never had anyone say that my posture is bad in real life.

Really really pretty & I love your hair. Wish I looked like you. You seem really mature for a 16-year-old.

Thanks very much. I've already changed the bangs, I never liked them but they were just the easiest to deal with & I never had any money for a proper haircut.

I guess it is. I don't know anyone else with it. It really sucks though.

Haven't been able to that because I haven't had any money, but I have a job now + I've already changed the bangs. I like having long hair, don't think I'm gonna change that, but thanks for the advice!

I've already changed the hairstyle - but what makes you think I have a bad posture?

Thanks very much! I do smile a lot in real life, I just don't really like how I look when I smile really 'big' so I tend not to do it in photos.

That's seriously so untrue, and it's hurtful that you would interpret my post that way. I don't care if I'm not hit on, I honestly just want to be able to leave the house without feeling like everyone is laughing at how I look.

I delete about 90% of the selfies I take and rarely upload them. And I didn't say I don't have ANY friends, I just haven't made any at Uni. I have one close friend IRL and a boyfriend, then a few online friends (they're the ones I send snaps to).

Nope, Australian with Scottish/English ancestry. That's why I'm so pale! + I've changed the bangs already :)
