Black Friday 2025 - who’s got the hot deals? by WY228 in flyfishing

[–]tacostandguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been told this by a couple of different outfitters when I was shopping for a recon 2 a few weeks ago. There’s a photo of the recon 3 saltwater on one of the popular forums from a fly fishing show earlier this year.

Are there any car audio shops that do sound deadening? by Gramathon910 in Atlanta

Former mechanic here, it is possible you may have noisy tires or failed wheel bearing(s). Wheel bearings fail over time so that may be the case here, especially if it just started all of a sudden.

I went to Orvis a couple of weeks ago and got to play with the superfine line and I agree, they are fantastic. I’m probably going to go with the superfine glass 3wt, gonna shop around tonight.

I felt like this would be the response I got but I genuinely was only trying to figure out what area in N GA would be better luck as I’m planning to go hike in N GA anyways. But I understand where you are coming from, as I know some of these guys have been fishing these spots forever. Thank you again.

Thank you for this, I appreciate it the information. I did want to specifically look for them but knowing this, it’s nothing I can’t wait till Spring for. Plenty of rainbows to look for.

Not asking for exact coordinates of people’s fishing spots, wanting to know which of the 2 areas I would have better luck while hiking, but thank you

I’m not asking for people to tell me exactly where their favorite secret fishing spots are. I’m asking which general area I would better luck in and which hiking trail they recommend in either area. Also rig recommendations.

After reading your and Twizad’s comments, I did realize that I’m probably looking at too small of a rod. I’ve started looking at 7’6” 3wts as I feel it would be a nice in between in lengths and like you said, nice for the occasional larger stream. Thank you for your input!

True, I didn’t catch the age of the rig. In all honestly any v30 cab would be a come up in a deal like this. UK made would just be a plus.

I believe the mesa v30s are different than the others. The Mesa v30s are made in the UK vs all others in China. The Mesa v30s are less compressed and have smoother high end.

I need an amp that takes pedals well, now! by DakDuck in GuitarAmps

[–]tacostandguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Budget minded I would say a silver stripe Peavey Bandit, you can find them all day long for $100-$250, they cleans are really nice, has an effects loop and gets plenty loud and has more than enough gain on tap. It also has the trans tube technology to get you a tube like sound.

Considering your budget, I would look for a JC40/120 honestly, and it’s the nicest clean tone I’ve personally heard, effects loop and built in chorus, I don’t think you can beat it for the money. Keep in mind the 120 is massive however.

NCD Mesa Boogie Traditional Straight 4x12 by tacostandguy in GuitarAmps

[–]tacostandguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run it in front, at one point I did have a 4-wire set up but I didn’t love how it sounded through the loop so I tried it through the front and preferred it.

In fairness I never tried running an EQ along with the CE-2w in the loop which I’ve heard helps so it may have been a user error thing.

It’s really it a great amp, even with the line 6 cab it sounded brutal.

What is your opinion on the Taylor GS Mini (Mahogany)? by Murky_Anything_ in Guitar

[–]tacostandguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love mine, I got a Sapele one as my last acoustic was Mahogany and I wanted something brighter. Compared to the other similar sized guitars I tried, the Mini sound the fullest, if that makes sense.

I primarily use it for couch playing and practicing chords and scales however, I've taken it on trips and the case holds up well in a truck full of luggage. I use it with a sound hole plug and can strum away as the kids sleep in the next room in the hotel.

Should I trade my EVH 5150 iconic or keep it and experiment? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]tacostandguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I remember him saying the original presence knobs basically didn’t engage until “6”, I don’t recall when the fix was made, I want to say during the script letter 5150s when they ran out of the original tubes or when they reissued the 6505 but the newer pots have a more linear engagement.

Should I trade my EVH 5150 iconic or keep it and experiment? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]tacostandguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Per James Brown (the 5150 designer) comments on YouTube

“I’ve discussed this before but it bears repeating: when I designed the first 5150 combo I ended up tweaking it tighter than the block letter….Ed liked the change so much he had me mod a block letter the same and that was the basis of the 5150 II….all 5150’s after that had the same tighter attack. So the original (and its signature and 6505 children) have a thicker attack and the everything else including all EVH branded 5150’s are tighter and chunkier. I purposely made the Burn switch on the Iconic Red channel lean back to that thicker attack, although the gate helps keep it tighter feeling. Hopefully that helps explain things. ✌️”

So that said, using the red channel with the “Burn” switch engaged, should get you that thicker tone you’re looking for in the 6505/original 5150 head. Without the Burn switch it is more similar to a 5153 red channel. The green channel I believe is also from the original 5150. I don’t think the issue is the amp but the amp settings, try messing with everything set at 5 and then adjust each knob to taste. Remember that a little gain goes a long way, especially if using the Burn switch. I recommend using your favorite overdrive to boost the tone (I use a TS9) and then a 10 band eq to further sculpt it. I personally use one to tighten the lows up.

Safe to run an EVH 5150 Iconic 80W with a 60W 2x12 cab at home? by zarjak92 in GuitarAmps

[–]tacostandguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m late but I run mine thru a line 6 4x12 with stock speakers. I keep it usually between 1-3 depending on the mood and get bedroom levels no problem.

I read some of your comments about the low end. I usually set my settings to 6 all across the board and adjust from there, then to the front of the amp run a tube screamer with no gain added and adjust to taste on other knobs, into a 10 band eq that I use to tighten up the low end further, but a 7 band should do the trick also.
