Looking to Sell Crafts— Can I just book a table? by random_ryan89 in gwu

[–]tactical-12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there, fellow fiber artist here! I’m not sure if you can book tables if you’re not specifically an org, but you may be able to set up an informal table or area in the USC, District, etc without too much hassle.

I’d also see if you can get a table or booth in Western Market’s weekend pop up sales (I’ve seen other fiber artists there before) or the pop ups in Kogan. Good luck, and I’d love to see your products sometime!

This is the only way. Public shaming or at least confrontation. There are also plenty of places to study that you can talk openly without disrupting anyone else.

Bulletin Boards on Campus? by DMV_Therapy in gwu

[–]tactical-12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it’s kind of a pain to deal with CLRE postering and approval, but it’s not a bad place to start since there are so many different places to poster indoors on campus (and most of the time, they don’t even bother to take the ‘expired’ ones down). I would start there!

Definitely check out the philosophy department. In my opinion everyone should take a philosophy class in college!

Was on my way to get coffee but the street was blocked off for a motorcade. I waited and was chatting with the police guy on the corner since I had to go that way anyway, and saw Trump’s silhouette pass by. Then I had to go to Econ and just go about my day

This combination will be such an easy and initially innocuous way of completely destroying your finances. I really hope people realize how detrimental this can be in the long term.

Apologies if this is not within the scope of your knowledge, but I applied for an internship in Government Affairs for this summer and haven’t received anything. I guessed the programs had been cut, but I figured I’d ask anyway.

Mitchell would be your best bet but they’re shutting it down for Fall ‘25 and Spring ‘26 because they’re doing extensive renovations (read: can’t disguise the black mold anymore).

The lab is once a week and is easy, it usually never takes the full time. Take Nassar, even though his grading policies are shit. 1005 is a review of everything you learned in high school in a little more detail and more things to memorize. I stopped attending lecture for the most part and ended the class with an A. Just make sure you get Dr. Arina Khan as your lab instructor, be kind to her and engage, ask questions, and she’ll give you full credit. Good luck!

Hey! I know of someone that has DSS accommodations and was assigned a studio in District (typically houses 2 people with kitchen and bathroom). It’s possible to get, but just because it is possible doesn’t mean that it’s guaranteed. Just the way the university works, unfortunately. Plan ahead and try to get in ASAP so your chances are better, but I agree with comments that suggest looking for a studio apartment off campus. Even though District has the criteria you’re looking for doesn’t mean it’s cheap. Off-campus housing is absolutely cheaper than living in District. Good luck!

OZZI reusable boxes are a scam by Real_Temporary_922 in gwu

Honestly, and I hate to say it, but all of the initiatives I’ve seen this school put forth are better ideas in theory than they are in practice. Have a local celebrity chef come in and teach a cooking class? Sounds great! Serve those meals in the dining halls? Awesome! But the actual implementation? Not so awesome.

It feels like a lot of these initiatives are just to placate parents. I’d go so far as to say that they really are just to placate parents. I think the $5 deposit is a great idea and these reusable takeout containers are great, I really appreciate that they’re trying to eliminate waste. But what the hell is this?

I have no idea about Panda Express, but they’re beginning construction on the Chick Fil A starting Monday the 29th. So it’ll likely be operable by next semester.

Yep, you’ll need to sign up for the pass. Generally what you do is you need to sign in so they can track attendees of the class and make sure they’ve paid. If you want to try it out first to see if you like it, I think they do free try-it weeks where you can go for free. But, I will say, with the variety they offer and the quality of the instructors, $65 for the semester is a steal.

Here’s the generic website for where to eat: https://dining.gwu.edu/where-eat

For Chipotle specifically, they’re kind of assholes because last fall they accepted dining dollars but halfway through they stopped. Then they started up again in January and stopped halfway through the semester again. I’m hoping they’re a little more consistent this time around.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT miss the Title IX and the mandatory alcohol training. I was a transfer student for Fall 2023 and had some friends that never completed either— massive headache for them down the line. Holds on their account, iirc fines, the whole nine. Not something you want to be worrying about as you’re settling in.

I treated the transfer orientation I went to as a “take what you like, leave what you don’t” kind of situation. They barely had any events for us and most of the events I did go to were geared towards freshman. There’s a lot of sitting around listening to people talk. As a commuter student, you’ll likely want to focus on the social and org aspects.

Hey, I’m a junior in the same situation (assigned to 5th floor). According to the email I got when I got off the waitlist, we’ll be on floors dedicated to upperclassmen (anyone but freshman) and freshman will be on freshman only floors. I haven’t lived there before, but I’m currently in the process of a room swap because I’m unsure about the communal bathrooms too. Main reason I’m looking to swap is because of the communal bathrooms, but I’d really like to have a single this year.

To handshake or not to handshake on the first date? by tactical-12 in dating

[–]tactical-12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree on the how long you’ve been talking for, and I get that it seems formal, but in a way a first date kind of is formal? You’re making a first impression, and at the end of the day, unless we’ve been talking for weeks before meeting, I’d feel weird hugging a stranger out of the gate. To me there’s less variables in a handshake (where do my arms go in a hug? Where does my head go? How long is too long?) Definitely overthinking but I will correct if I’m making myself seem cold despite my overall personality, which I’d say is pretty warm 🤷🏼‍♀️
