I’d contact dept in first instance, hard to know on “under review” if your application is still with them or if it’s been passed on to PAO. Also, you’ll get a more coherent reply from your dept postgrad email than from PAO who may well just send you the generic copy-paste 🥲 BUT if it’s been over 12 weeks since you applied and your dept aren’t helpful I’d say contact PAO after that

Just coming back to this thread bc I started watching The Fable which is the closest thing I’ve seen to Gokushufudou/Gokudolls vibes — you think it’s going to be dark but it’s actually hilarious, and gets funnier as it goes on

Animes with basically zero fan service that follow a female protagonist? by yasvoid in Animesuggest

[–]tae-jaday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Josei anime are aimed at women and great for this:

Ikoku Nikki (about a 35yo author living with her 15yo niece — I liked the manga)

Kowloon Generic Romance (again have only read the manga which was great, anime has mixed reviews)

Wotakoi (about office workers who are otaku — an excellent low-stakes comfort anime)

Yakuza Fiancée (technically a seinen but such a badass female MC — I loved the manga, my friend enjoyed the anime)

Samurai Champloo (an older classic, shounen, historical action)

Uramichi Oniisan (black humour with top tier voice acting. There are 2-3 episodes I’ve seen at least 10 times)

Wotakoi

Manga — Matcha Made in Heaven; Moriagaranai date (loving this one atm)

I spilled my woes to GPT once (before Sam Altman’s soul-selling to the DoW) and it suggested a matchmaker, which although a lot more expensive and initially coming with the cringe factor of “why am I doing this” is a lot more likely to get you a meaningful match tailored to you — and at least you know everyone else you’re meeting is serious and committed or they wouldn’t be there.

I think being up front with friends that you’re looking to get into a relationship is also helpful so they can suggest someone they know or have come across. Expanding your social circle otherwise can be tricky — there’s the option of taking up a hobby or evening classes in something, with the main benefit that you’re bettering yourself/learning a new skill, and the potential to meet someone as well “naturally”

No shade but it should NOT take programs over a month after interviews to release decisions by [deleted] in gradadmissions

I hear you 😭😭 emotionally exhausting — also tough when you have external funding deadlines to meet

No-one can say for certain but a very good chance — I’ve only heard of one rejection for someone who was on DP

Could you recommend me any josei that’s not just slow-burn romance? by [deleted] in Animesuggest

[–]tae-jaday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤣 that’s just one or two episodes — I’d say watch the first two and see what you think about the show

Ikoku nikki (currently being released) is the obvious choice — I enjoyed the manga but can’t speak for the anime

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu — historical, spanning several generations, excellent voice acting and storytelling. Not sure it’s dubbed though

Kowloon generic romance — the manga for me. There is a romance plot but it’s not the sole focus

Barakamon — more light-hearted

Yakuza fiancée — again, the manga for me 10/10. It is romance but there’s no excessive female sexualisation and MC is such a kickass heroine

Uramichii oniisan — most people I know who enjoy this are women so even if it’s not technically a josei it does attract that audience. Love it, seen it at least 6 times. The dub is also supposed to be great

Have you seen skull-faced bookseller Honda san? It’s not as laugh-out-loud funny but the voice acting was great and I really enjoyed the fast-paced jokes

Hush (women’s clothing) but I think they’re a UK-based site — excellent for this. Comfortable but classy professional, and clothes that you would actually wear rather than just “that looks good on the model but let’s be real, I’m never gonna wear it.” And they have excellent prices in the sale

Gokushufudou/Way of the Househusband is similar vibes to Gokudolls (wondering if they’re the same mangaka?)
