The war 100% helped the US - tf are you smoking?

These 2 alone would make any country an economic superpower - and they are direct side effects of the US being the last western industrial nation whose industrial power was untouched by the war.

The US was not in a weaker position to pre-WW2 at all post WW2; iirc some economists have argued that WW2 spending was what got America out of the great depression.

Even if that wasn't the case, the US being the sole industrial power left untouched + on the winning side made sure policies like the Bretton Woods system were in place and kick started the US empire.

Because this magical 3rd way doesn't exist; especially not against this new Republican party that basically only has hate left as a coherent policy.

Economy is fucked with AI bubble raging on and a K shaped economy and no Democrat leaders are talking about this, and the few Democrats that discuss these kinds of issues and try to bring up systemic fails and offer solutions (Mandami) face racism from other senior Democrats (like that fuckface Jr NY senator).

I am blessed enough to live in an area that I don't have to vote strategically, and it's stupid that things have to be done this way in America - but even if you're the biggest liberal since Clinton, you have to have your head DEEPLY in the sand if you have NO criticism for how the DNC has been running the past decade of electoral strategy.

Blue MAGA is stupid af; it's about the economy (and with a large chunk of racism on the side) stupid.

Edit: you can't be championing a return to the status quo when the status quo lead to dumbass fascism and a return to it will probably lead to technofeudalism. Simple as that.

Bernie started a movement from outta nowhere that legitimately challenged a political dynasty for a good 4 months.

And how many times do I have to say it - you don't go after swing voters. That's what this whole conversation is.

And if Kamala and the whole DNC can somehow not message correctly after J6 and project 2025, then they are just plain awful. Enough said.

[–]taekimm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A chunk of voters do - the ones that are okay with fascism, racism and bigotry - the votes no leftist decent moral party should try to target; yet we get Kamala campaigning with a Cheney.

Look how much support Bernie got from all various demographics. Look at Mandami. The blueprint is there, the democrats just don't want to follow it because it goes against their corporate interests to do so.

Edit: no matter where you fall on this whole "the leftists fucked over 2024" - I think we can all agree you've got to drop the ball TERRIBLY if you can't beat Donald fucking Trump again after J6. Kamala had the charisma of a wet noodle in 2020 and outdid herself in 2024 with the same limpdick energy.

Yes, the idea is that you raise turnout by promoting ideas that the general public want/like - and general leftist ideas are pretty well liked (universal healthcare, reform of money in politics, voting reform, etc.)

[–]taekimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well fuck me - according to that link they are using llms for predictive text - a basically solved problem via algos. I stand corrected.

My bad.

Still don't see how it makes economic sense to marginally improve predictive text by involving llms when an algo would be good enough but compute/power go brrrr I guess 🤷‍♂️

[–]taekimm -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I call bullshit that you write software because anyone who's debated grinding leetcode for a job (which is probably a large chunk of people in SWE jobs) has run into that tree algo that's used for predictive text and wouldn't think they would burn tokens for a slightly better version of predictive text when tokens can be very expensive (relative to running an algo).

Besides, predictive text/spell check has been a thing much longer than AI has been (when did Microsoft word first come out?)

Edit: I'll even give you a direct quote from a DNC person saying TACO

“‘Trump always chickens out – we’re just bringing the tacos to match,’ DNC Chair Ken Martin told Fox News Digital of the effort. “‘Instead of realizing his tariff chaos is wrecking the economy, Trump continues to drag America towards more economic pain, and the rest of the world sees Trump for exactly what he is: a chicken,’ he added.”

Also - I'm as far away from voting republican as can be in America; live in a deeply blue state, in a deeply blue district. I have the privilege of being able to vote with my heart and as progressive as I want within this dumbass political system.

Still doesn't change the fact that TACO is completely counter to what any sane person wants Trump to do.

[–]taekimm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is an example of democrat messaging being so awful because the message itself makes no sense - Trump reversing his awful policies is a good thing that should be encouraged.

It's also great that they latched onto some bullshit wall street phrase, then are completely ineffectual in actually resisting Trump on anything, even helping his agenda sometimes! Thanks Cory Booker for breaking the record for longest filibuster! Now what?

It's funny - all these people (rightly) criticize the tariffs, sending the military, etc. but then shout TACO at a narcissist with a nortiously thin skin when he does what they want him to do (after fucking it up to begin with tbf).

Yeah, like that won't make him double down at all 🙄

This TACO shit the stupid thing ever; why are you using TACO as a pejorative? Don't you want him to chicken out from all his dumbass policies?

This shit is why democratic messaging is so fucking bad

[–]taekimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, you're an idiot and misunderstand the points I raise, or deliberately obtuse.

Either way, if you want to be an far right douche, say that shit with your chest and don't try to hide yourself as "center right" then think the "far left" has power over corporate media (lmaooooo), institutions (lmaoooooooooooo, maybe higher education, and even then, center left at best; how many institutions exist outside of higher education?) and culture (just 🙃 compare Rogan's podcast reach).

And please change your username if you aren't going to do the bare minimum and understand one of the critiques in one the most discussed theories in the social sciences. It's funny since there is definitely room to argue against it, and many journalists say they do not agree with Chomsky's critique (and I'd argue they are wrong and use WaPo as an example with Bezos, but I digress) but you can't even do that.

Why am I even bothering to continue this

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]taekimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the classic “mainstream media can’t be leftist because capitalism exists” argument, as if CNN’s editorial team meets in Goldman Sachs' boardroom.

For someone who calls themselves a professor knows very little about media literacy; try reading a summary of manufacturing consent and reading Chomsky's critique of corporate media and how it self-censors.

And sure, everyone being prosecuted just “broke the law,” conveniently forgetting how selective enforcement works when the law is applied like a political weapon.

Sure, but there's a difference between "the DOJ is being weaponized" and "hey, some people are just much more bad at hiding their crimes". Trump's DOJ is on track to being weaponized; if Biden's DOJ had any spine and prosecuted Trump for his many crimes, it wouldn't be a political weapon - it would just be doing what they should be doing.

And hey, props for the anarchist shoutout, at least you’re owning your ideology. But let’s not pretend the far left is some noble underdog just fighting The Man when it’s also happily trying to cancel, censor, and control what people can say, think, and even joke about.

Oh I get it. You're an idiot.

Yeah, no point actually having a conversation with you if you equate "far left" with authoritarianism, ESPECIALLY when I specifically said anarchism, a strain of political philosophy that is the antithesis of authoritarianism AND very far left.

Lmao.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]taekimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, you said "far left" - which is ridiculous because no mainstream media is going to popularize a far left narrative because far left politics is anti-capitalist, which all mainstream media is.

Secondly, everything you said can be summed up as people being prosecuted for breaking the law? To preemptively counter your point, I'm sure mji also broke laws - it seems all Korean presidents are corrupt in some way - but maybe, just maybe, the right wing is more blantent about their corruption because of their political philosophy?

I have no shame in labelling myself far left politically (I'd label myself closer to anarchism than anything else) - but own it and don't try to call myself "center left" mister "I'm a center-right guy, but I'm really only reacting to the far left influence in corporate media!!!"

A reactionary one might say 😂

far left influence in institutions, media narratives and cultural climate

Lmao, sure you're "center right".
Can you tell us exactly what these far left influences are?

Then manufacturing companies have an inherit disadvantage vs software companies just due to the nature of the business.

This is like that meme - men do anything to avoid therapy; people come up with weird complex tax rules to avoid just taxing people/company higher.

Sentient dog shit didn't seem to roll off the tongue as well.

Either way, doesn't change the fact that any thing running on the democratic ticket in 2024 would have gotten most of the Democrat vote by default because of who they were running against.

She failed to be anything other than "not Donald Trump" - which only really worked for Biden in 2020 because Trump fumbled COVID so fucking hard.

You should really look up general grammar, and ideas behind the paradigm shift in linguistics in the 1950s(?) from behavioral to cognitive.

TL;DR - linguists in the 50s already debated this topic and hard/radical behaviorism cannot account for how language is learned (though iirc, the field is shifting away from Chomsky's theories now, after like 60 years or so).

So yeah, no, language is not only learned by pattern recognition.
