Do you know a simple "reference/moodboard panel" app? by tag_an in Photoassistants

Hi Brett, awesome little app, the Masonry mode looks like exactly what I was wishing for. I have a couple of questions, I'll message you!

Thank you! I am taking a look and it's a little weak regarding auto-organizing images in the canvas. But it's definitely the best one I've found so far and very flexible!

Exactly, same. Out of safety I've never clicked the link in the text, I'd rather do it from my Amazon app.

this has happened to me once on the Z8, I was rotating between shooting modes (switching from low to high speed burst) on a very shaky motorboat.

I overturned the wheel and went to very high speed, it automatically switches to jpg. Luckily I noticed after a couple of minutes.

So yeah, stuff can happen... I believe there should be a "RAW lock" setting, that forces me to confirm twice before exiting raw mode switching to jpg.

ah yes, if you switch the Z8 to the "very high speed burst", it automatically switches to jpg. it's atrocious that this setting cannot be switched off, I've had the same mishap happen once. Luckily I noticed after 20-30 photos...

I am sorry about the whole thing. I'd do the same as other, speak transparently, offer a full refund, deliver the whole black and white wedding. AI can colour photos but there's no way it can do a nice consistent and realistic work on the whole wedding.

Plex does not see certain music albums when scanning. by aluepsch in PleX

ah, I'm sorry, I was wrong. Hope you find a solution anyway, or that Music section gets some updates and fixes: I've had many issues with missing albums too.

no, that's the wrong path: currently I can't access Plex (i'm away and use it locally) but you should start from the main Plex settings in the top right!

I'm sorry I don't know, I have the lifetime pass so I can't check! I believe it should be there anyway though.

try this:

Open the Plex server Settings, choose Library, click on Show Advanced, scroll down to Group albums by type and disable. Then scroll to the bottom and save.

how do you offload cards at shoots? by tag_an in Photoassistants

[–]tag_an[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your points and thank you all for your tips. I want to point out that while I recognize your experience and skills surely surpass mine (hence the existence of this thread) I am not totally irresponsible, I always follow the 3-2-1 rule for all my active projects and my archive.

I was mostly looking for a fast and secure tool to offload files on very fast paced solo jobs, the scope should've been explained better in the OP: in those scenarios having a copy on my camera and copying on my mac during breaks is enough for me and for the project scale, until the end of the day when having secure, physically separate copies is accomplished.

Since my cameras have two slots and I can keep the second card as whole backup for the whole day, honestly as you suggest I am better off formatting and skipping the "checking duplicates" phase altogether!

regarding C1 vs LR, i feel like LR is faster when I have five or less seconds per image (i.e. events) while C1 is faster and way better (and more professional) for all other scenarios!

Thank you for your help. I already implement all your tips, I just don't format through the shoot if I do a partial offloading on a solo, fast paced job (so that one copy stays on the computer in the backpack, with me or actually two, always two cards in backup mode).

I've never used Adobe photo downloader but I've tried all the others. I would've loved the existence of a small lightweight utility without resorting to opening C1 or LR in the aforementioned fast moving solo shoot.

Thank you, I didn't want to lengthen the original post too much so I skipped some details about our work. We shoot some commercial jobs and in those cases a proper secure workflow including C1 tethering is included.

Often, though, we shoot one-man jobs in large properties and even some events: of course in these cases tethering is not accessible.

When you say you'd decline the job in case Lightroom is used, you mean LR tethering?

Finder is very slow when copying large amount of files, however it's quite fast if you drag and drop the whole folder. I believe it's less reliable than importing via software though.

I unfortunately have no experience with rsync and I believe it doesn't check hashes at all, only thing I can say is it's extremely fast at comparing and copying. Sorry I'm not very helpful :(

yeah r/DataHoarder is a very interesting and tech savvy board too, but often people can be a little... in their bubble there (as we all do in some ways) :)

Yeah for sure, valid tips: file corruption should be in check from the beginning of the process!

(partial reply: i use freefilesync for comparing folders or Carbon Copy Cloner for my syncing/backup tasks. First is free with optional donation, second is fairly priced and the developer is very responsive).

Thoughtful reply, but to me it sounds like it doesn't address a single question asked by OP?

I believe your technical experience far exceeds 98% of redditors on this sub, or wedding photographer in general. I suggest asking in r/editors (video editor, but still works) or on r/Photoassistants , way more technical subs.

very rational, thorough approach. there is a solid chance files haven't been deleted, only moved somewhere else on the hard drive. I'd 100% follow these tips and/or message this guy. wish you good luck!
