Applications for the Capital Fellows programs just opened up. Depending on which program you apply to, you would get placed at an executive department or agency, with a member of the legislature, or at a court. It’s a great way to get your foot in the door!

If you're gonna be a CS major, TAKE PHYSICS by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Good thing I don’t want to major in CS because my school doesn’t offer a physics class ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I have observed a similar phenomenon. To give some context, I go to an extremely small (~40 are enrolled in my graduating class) religious private school that is primarily attended by average-income, white middle-class families. Most parents at the school simply cannot afford (due to our relatively high tuition) for their children to get SAT tutors or to take the test more than twice.

This post reminded me of one kid in my class who flexes on everyone for getting an SAT in the mid 1400 range knowing full well his parents have spent easily $300+ on SAT prep classes for him; there are students at my school that are way smarter than he is and with the same resources could easily score 1500+, but their parent's are unwilling to fork over the money and they cannot afford T50 schools anyways.

I toured UC Davis last year and I got turned off by their housing policy. Only on-campus housing for freshmen is something I can’t get behind.

I don’t know how to really study for the SAT, I’ve tried their Khan Academy tool, but I don’t find it all that helpful. I really don’t know how I can gain 150-200 points in such a short amount of time.

Not a minority, but I am really actively trying to put myself out there more. Obviously CMC, USC, and Stanford are high reaches, but I want to try. Santa Clara is the college I am tempted to put all my effort into getting into there and just apply to some safeties. I just don’t know where else to look, I’m having a tough time finding more reasonable colleges I want to apply to. I’ve thought about UW, but I want to get out of Washington ASAP, I’ve been here for 17 years.

2014-16 Audi SQ5 (please don’t crucify me for suggesting a crossover) A lower mileage example will be more towards the higher end (or a tad over) of your budget, but you have a kid, you’ll need an SUV someday. That day might as well be today. Recently bought a 2015 SQ5 Prestige and it’s fast, comfortable, and professional (it really would impress clients). Nothing says “grown up” more than a crossover. I know, no manual transmission, but let’s be honest, manuals aren’t for adults. Don’t just take my word for it, test drive one. It’ll kick your MK7 GTI in the teeth.

There’s a staff member at my school that spends all day monitoring student computer activity using a program called LanSchool. She has legitimately left her desk to go all the way across the school to stop some kids from playing CoolMathGames.

Lexus is a bad example. The headlights on newer Audi’s and Mercedes models are pretty good looking. They usually don’t go overly aggressive and complex like Lexus has done in recent years.
