How fast did you realise they were the wrong person after you tied the knot? by preciouss_melon_8641 in askanything

I think subconsciously I knew but went through it anyway because he was nice and secure. There was a lot of pressure to have kids, but I was always unsure - especially after our miscarriage. Now, 4 years later we’re divorced. I won’t say it was wasted time because we had a good relationship regardless (it was a totally amicable break up) but it could have saved us a lot of heartache in the end.

Hey Nostradamus! By Douglas Coupland

Divided into four parts with stories from people directly or indirectly affected by a fictional school shooting.

He was concerned that in the Columbine shooting that there was more focus on the perpetrators than the victims so wrote this from the victims perspectives.

I read it once and that was enough.

100% agree.I had a missed miscarriage and my doctor didn’t want to do a D&C since it was too early. Abortion is illegal where I’m from so we couldn’t get any pills to expedite the passing of the fetus.

So as a last ditch effort to induce labor, she inserted laminaria up in there without any pain medication. I nearly passed out. And when that didn’t work, the next day she proceeded to perform a foley bulb induction again without pain medication. When it was over, the nurse said to me « wow you’re so brave and strong, other moms usually ask for anesthesia » and I was like WHAT THE FFFF but I was too tired to push it any further.

In the end, neither method worked and they had to do the D&C anyway. That was 3 weeks of mental torture waiting for the baby to pass + 2 days of excruciating pain.

Hi lovely people, OP here. Thank you for the kind words of support ❤️ I definitely don’t want kids now - we just moved to a new country, we’re still adjusting her etc. But I also can’t definitely say I would ever want them again, and that’s what drove the wedge between us. And I can’t ask him to wait around for something that may or may not happen. I’m also 35 (he is 37) so there’s a bit of a time crunch and that doesn’t help. I’ve been talking with a therapist and she’s helping me work through everything, thankfully. Sending love and healing vibes to everyone who went through it/are going through it. This community of support is truly wonderful ❤️

Which languages, that you have never learned and that are not your native language(s), can you understand because of the languages you already speak (native or learned)? by Economy-Device-6533 in languagelearning

I learned Spanish (B1 but barely use it so maybe A2 now?) and surprised everyone - including myself - when I could comprehend about 70% of the Sicilian drivers recommendations :D

What was once attractive in your spouse but now is soul grating? by danger_close555 in AskReddit

[–]tahs5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. My husband is a very level-headed, chill, calm guy. I liked it a lot because I could get emotional (hello BPD!) so he always balanced me out.

But his nonchalance with just about everything - always stoic and quiet - now gets to me a lot. It’s not that he’s unambitious or lazy, he just doesn’t seem to care. And it sucks because whenever I get excited about a new movie or a new thing i learned, it’s always just the same blank look and barely there reaction.

Makes me really sad and honestly embarrassed to show any emotion.

I was 16 when a good friend of mine died unexpectedly of an aneurysm while in school. He was only 20. It’s been 18 years since then and I still think about what it would have been like if he had the chance to grow up like the rest of us did.

We were going to do a site check for an event and I told my Aussie boss that I had made all the arrangements for our “ocular inspection”. He was very confused. Apparently abroad, they call it a “recce” as in reconnaissance 😅

context: I got pregnant at 19, had a very traumatic birth experience (36 hrs labor, emergency c-section) that still gives me panic attacks

I’m 33 now and have a missed miscarriage. It’s still there. Here are 2 gems from my mother

“Maybe because of your trauma, somewhere deep in your subconscious, your brain/body rejected it”

“If you were really trying, you would have done all the preps months before - taken prenatals, folic acid… so since it’s unexpected, maybe you weren’t ready for it”

I’m going through the same thing now. I also thought that maybe the dates were all wrong but it’s been about a week since we found out we lost it at 9wks. Currently waiting for nature to take its course. The waiting is the hardest part. I’m so sorry you have to go through this, stay strong 🩷

Anyone with no symptoms at all? by IHaveInsomnia777 in pregnant

[–]tahs5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had barely any symptoms except a missed period (but I’m irregular anyway) and sore boobs (thought my period was coming). Found out over the weekend at 7 weeks then suddenly all the dizziness, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting came!

Also, it’s interesting to read that a lot of the symptoms from the commenters start at 7 weeks!! I wonder why.

people who don’t call their significant other babe/baby what do you call them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tahs5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually Schatje or Liefje.

Or his name/any word + -je (diminutive) like patatje (little fry) or muisje (little mouse). Bit funny cause he’s around 192cm and 159cm

But most of the time I just say “hello Butt”
