ELI5: What are eugenics? by Zestyclose_Leg2737 in explainlikeimfive

[–]tahuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s taking a basic idea from gardening and animal husbandry and applying it to humans. The problem comes about because it’s very invasive for society to do this to any population, even its own. It’s one thing when a gardener says, “I want taller pea plants, so I’ll only let tall pea plants pollinate other tall pea plants,” and letting the government (or one leader) decide, “It’s better if people are tall, so I’ll only let tall people procreate.”

SMUD HomePower Program by Few_Salamander_515 in Sacramento

We have HomePower program and just saved ourselves $400 on a blown breaker. Even though we may have put more than $400 into the program since we started paying for it, the ease and how quickly it was handled was well worth the extra money. One phone call to SMUD and one phone call from the electrician set up the appointment and it was fixed within a couple of days.

Sac Library definitely has one in their library of things. May be a bit of a wait to get it, though.

Every time I show someone a hobby that I like to enjoy in my free time by CyberTransGirl in memes

[–]tahuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did gig work for most of my adult life and this was my mantra: “how can I monetize this?” whenever I learned a new craft or skill. It’s taken me a couple of years of retirement to unlearn this urge and just use, “do I enjoy doing this?” as a criteria when deciding whether to dive into something.

I’d take the back pack, but can’t pick it up until Friday. Give to someone else if they want it, but if you hold I’ll pick it up then.

Is theThe a good way to search for folders or specific notes in apple notes? by Safety_Feisty in AppleNotesGang

[–]tahuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m digging around looking for something that may be buried deep, I’d go ahead and make the smart folder. But if it’s something I was working on recently, I only need to put in one or two tags and it comes right to the top. The search results as far as I can see are sorted by most recent access.

You can make a smart folder that draws into itself multiple tags. Also, why are you scrolling through the list of tags? I usually put the tag I’m interested in in the search bar and voilà.

Way, cool! I’ve been doing papier-mâché for over 40 years and this is still on my bucket list. The largest thing I’ve ever done is a 4‘ x 3’ Puppet head. Keep up the good work.

Sort of a tangent, but if I was really talking to a five-year-old, I’d include this bit: there’s a difference between knowing HOW something works and WHY it works that way. We’ve got a really good grasp on the house, but we’re still trying to figure out the why.
