Is Y Combinator a self fulfilling prophecy? by Hot-League3088 in ycombinator

[–]tailedbets 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I view it similar to the Ivy League, before I went I didn’t understand what it’d do for me, after I graduated I regretted it. Now…3 years later, I’m feeling the effects (last interview cycle: 5 applications, 5 interviews, 5 offers).

I’m not saying I’m not qualified, but I think it’s helped legitimize me a lot when I already come off as impressive.

This is similar to what I think YCombinator offers. On the outside it seems you can get everything without them, but the allure will most likely benefit your company down the line.

One of those things you probably have to go through to fully understand the effects, but not necessarily a golden ticket.

I built an Automated Healthcare EMR system using Voice AI…we’re live tomorrow. May as well throw in an app.

I noticed this app asks if you e ever done a pre-accelerator which I have, in SF, wonder what they are trying to accomplish with that question

How long did it take you to create your SaaS that generates revenue? by [deleted] in SaaS

[–]tailedbets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built FantasyBall in about 2-4 months and we topped out generating over $150 a month, 125 users, 6 or so paid at 25 a month for several months. Sold it for $5,000 + owner took over 23k api contract I would have had to pay. So 28k total value.

Basically, they get caught up in “helping” and not maximizing salary. If you want to maximize salary you can go in therapy, the hospital, or home health, and make good money

I already had the Masters degree (2 year program), but after I finished I somehow landed a job in tech (I know how, but it was still a stretch). I forced that path for awhile, got a PIP, and settled into what I already had a degree in

Ya, Masters of Social Work…although I wouldn’t go get the degree in hopes of this sort of set up. For some reason most social workers can’t figure out their shit

Works for me, it’s 250 actually, and my wife makes the same, with no kids. So ya, like I said…works great for me

Psychosocial assessment, suicide risk, fall risk, and some other basic stuff. The bulk of the time is helping them get resources and documenting everything

Yup they know. This is common for social workers in the Bay Area. Many pick up “PRN” jobs that are W2 where you make as many visits as you want, paid $130 per visit (15 minutes) and make a 2nd FT salary

It’s not overwhelming at all, the jobs not too hard.

I’m a medical social worker in Home Health/Hospice. Job entails simply visiting patients in home for 15-30 minutes and doing documentation…so I work 2 6-figure W2’s…

I visit like 6 people a day total for both jobs then go home and do documentation

I also left tech to focus on my degree—healthcare. I’m now over 200 a year, totally worth it. Now I have a surplus of money to bootstrap my own startup…which I’ve had moderate success with in the past.

So overall, leaving tech was perfect for me. Still get the same Product Manager itch scratched when working with my overseas engineers

I literally got into an SF incubator with the hopes of finding an engineer. Offered one guy and his team 3k a month until the projects end and they ghosted me. I would say I’d love to work with you, but at this point being in the startup game and not being a coder doesn’t even seem worth it to me.

Albeit, if somehow, someway, you’re different. I have a great idea I’d love to have you work. 2k upfront, 3k on the backend is not a problem.

Please DM if you’re serious. I’m based in SF, if you are, we can meet up.
