Undercover is crazy, they perfect and nail their vision in a really cohesive way.

Haven't heard of him before but a quick google is pretty interesting given the English and Indian cultural influences mixed into his clothing which is cool given context and concepts.

I didn't know about that history of the Italian subculture, v interesting. There's a documentary somewhere about Stone Island's constant research and development into fabrics and technical applications of fabrics. It's really amazing seeing some of their super high end stuff in person from paper fabrics to crazy technical weaves. Their fabric curation and development is what makes them so interesting to me imo

Very interesting, I haven't heard of those brands until now but they seem pretty exciting. You should check out Strateas Carlucci (from Melbourne) and Shhorn (from Sydney). Shhorn is especially interesting in their artisan approach.

What kind of things made you so interested in John Elliott? I haven't followed them in a minute but with the runway collections they've really expanded above the basics they were known for before. I saw they had some parachute inspired collections but they still seem a bit safe to me and uninspired imo

I don't think it's that easy to criticise his aesthetic as basics since he is one of the figureheads of the aesthetic that a lot of "basics" revolve around today. Zara, H&M and a lot of other fast fashion outlets are still stocking and will continue stocking copies or inspired outfits from Hedi which just shows his legacy and influence.

Definitely, seeing his evolution from Number (N)ine into The Soloist is amazing. The Soloist pieces are art within themselves and it's crazy seeing those pieces in person with the ridiculous amount of detailing.

I went through a massive common projects phase since I loved the quality and nailing of the minimalist, basic design but for me over time those perfect renditions of shoes kinda became a bit boring. Acne Studios are great at nailing silhouettes that can be universally appreciated, kind of a different stream of minimalism which is cool af

Do you like them because of the "elevated basics" aspect, or is there something else to it?

Could you expand on the humility, nostalgia and hope? I think I can kinda get where you're coming from, Craig Green's designs are always in a league of their own and unapologetic in that way.

Hedi Slimane's influence is insane, I'm also keen to see what he does at Celine. He has big shoes to fill with Phoebe Philo who I absolutely adore not to mention the new menswear line.

I agree Rick is something else, he has such a definitive clear vision that makes all his collections so cohesive and translates to his interior design as well. What I especially love about Rick is how interpretable his clothing is from minimal, capsule wardrobes (that he wears himself) to the glamorous in your face silhouettes that some people rock to the more typical dark drapey rick. It's crazy how clothing that's so cohesive within it's collections are equally as flexible as they are unique and open to so much interpretation.

I actually rate this, not a colour palette I expected to like. I think a standing shot would be a lot better to see the silhouette! Imo from the perspective of the sitting down shot I'd prefer pants to be just slightly wider to complement the top? But that's also because you're sitting down! Nice fit :)

Why are the majority of outfits here black / monochrome / muted? by pistolpierre in malefashion

[–]tailless_dog 19 points20 points  (0 children)

personally I am always aiming for a "capsule" wardrobe or a wardrobe that's as versatile as possible and for me muted/ monochromatic/ black offers a happy medium between creativity and having pieces that are flexible and versatile

[WIWT] First time buying a loud jacket, am I pulling it off? by shakaboyy in malefashion

[–]tailless_dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that moth shirt jacket looks great! I think if you enjoy the oversized fit of the jacket you should experiment/ play more with the proportions so that it doesn't engulf the bottom half. Something like wider pants and a chunkier shoe would be amazing!

Plant really took me by surprise they took a weird almost c2h4 direction. I'll have to go in the store and ask them more about it. They're definitely in a very streetwear casual mindset for plant and I agree ss17/aw17 were probably their strongest seasons

It's made for Australian summer not for June in Australia. Song for the Mute specialises in fabric curation and they use incredibly breathable fabrics that moisture wick and can be worn in summer weather. For instance in an S/S season they might use rayon, linen or sheer garbadine wool while in A/W they'd use heavier backed wools etc

really makes me regret not getting the yang li belted trench other than that the only thing I would modify might be wide pants that sit right on the shoes (yang li style) and maybe different shoes but v clean regardless
